Getting Cuban cigars on the internet

by Trevor Wallace

Cuba is the place if you want the best cigars in the world. They carry a tradition that goes back hundreds of years and it has hardly changed. That is however just trivia and not to any use if you are trying to purchase real Cubans while living in the United States. Did you know that ninety nine percent of retailers out there are selling fake Cuban cigars? You just might be a victim especially if you never tried a real Cuban, how else are you going to tell the difference? Hopefully you won’t find someone who actually did because it could get just a little degrading for you. Check out these three things that you must take into consideration before trying to purchase cigars on the internet

So you finally find a great looking website with all the fancy pictures and moving images. You look around their website and their Cuban cigars are just a few hundred bucks. That my friend is your first warning sign as Cuban cigars (And usually come in singles or cases of 25 or 50) are not less than $500 bucks a month - that is if they are authentic. What these low lives are doing is they are disguising cheap Dominican cigars for Cubans. This is not only an insult to Cuban cigars smokers all over the world but especially to you. You never want to be in a situation where you think you bought some Cuban cigars, thinking that they were real, only to find the other guy you were smoking with has the real deal. The embarrassment would be something hard to get over. See you can lineup all the Cigars in the world together, but a Cuban stands out even when its not lit. The hand rolled, aged and fermented tobacco has a look that is just out of this world.

When it comes to websites selling Cuban cigars, don’t judge the book by its cover, or you’ll get burned. What I mean is just because the website looks good, doesn’t mean its valid. Evil is hiding behind the good looks! This brings me to my second point and that is make sure the Cuban cigar online retailer is authorized by Habanos. Habanos is a little place in Cuba and the only place in the world which is blessed by the most perfect environment in the world to grow the world’s sweetest tobacco, the Cuban tobacco. So if your Cuban cigar fancy website isn’t selling stuff imported from Habanos, they are faker than Oprah Winfrey’s diet.

If the first two points that I just made check out, ask them how long have they been shipping for? Especially to the United States. You see the USA, thanks to the embargo set my President Kennedy, is the only developed country that has a ban on Cuban cigars. Sad but true. So if you get caught with Cubans in your mouth in the United States, you my friend have to pay a fine of up to $50,000.00. Plus depending on the state you are in, you might end up going to jail. So ask the Cuban cigar online retailer do they ship to the United States and if they do, how long have they been doing it for?

So all you have to do is abide by these 3 simple steps. Consider them a checklist of things you need to put the website in question before taking action to try their Cuban cigars. Better safe than sorry. To your success!

Finding Clients In An Ocean Of Competition

by Terry Stanfield

There is more business being done online than ever before. There are hundreds of thousands of new business web sites coming on every month. 70% of the US population (233 million people) are online. Over 1.2 billion people worldwide are online. The question is how do we find clients in an ocean of competitors?

Part of the answer to the above question is which number do you focus on, the number of people on line or the number of competitors? If you are focused on the number of people online, read on. If you are more focused on the number of competitors, read on.

Search engine marketing has been proven to have the lowest cost per acquisition of any other marketing medium. It is the only medium where people are actively searching for you. A successful campaign should include a web site designed around one question: “What are your clients looking for?” This is the starting point and may seem basic but it is surprising how many people have are just scratching the surface in their understanding of this.

Your clients are in need of solutions, answers or products. Do they know:

1.that you exist? 2.the unique value that you bring to the table? 3.the depth of knowledge and experience you can bring to bear in helping them solve their issues? 4.the passion that you have for meeting their needs?

SEO Management SEO (search engine optimization), is the art helping people find what they are looking for, on your site”. A well optimized website requires two elements the correct “on page” optimization so that the search engines can determine the relevancy of the information you are presenting. Yes, it is not as important as it use to be but it is still needed. Another essential piece of the puzzle is “off page optimization”. This is having web sites linking back to yours. You may think that you are important and provide a great service to mankind but if no one else does you will not get ranked well. Quality links to your web site and an on going linking strategy is absolutely vital for good rankings. SEO optimization is not a onetime deal it is an ongoing process.

PPC Management Pay-per-click is a fantastic way to drive traffic to your site from the major search engines. It can also suck your marketing budget dry in just a couple of days if not done properly. The goal of the search engines (and their strategies) is more clicks. The more people click on your ads the more money the search engines make. Their strategy is to get as many clicks as possible with in your budget and they are willing to do that all day long. Great for them bad for you.

The real goal should be more conversion with less clicks and lower cost. For lead generation sites this will mean lower cost per conversion. For e commerce sites this will result in a higher “return on ad spend”. It is easy to figure out: profit/ad spend=% and if that % is not over 101% you are losing money! The only way to do that is to track every thing from clicks to conversions; cost per click to cost per conversion; total revenue. PPC Management should be the process that is designed to make that happen.

Click Fraud Management Click Fraud is a fact of life in the online world. The search engines are getting better at detecting and crediting their online advertisers. The key is to find a Click Fraud program that can track an IP address even if the go to another search engine and click on your ads and give them a warning that they are being tracked. It is amazing how bad behavior stops if the they know they are being watched and tracked! Also, some click fraud caused by our clients who find it easier to keep clicking on our ad instead of book marking our page. This will give them a gentle reminder to do that.

Many Roads It is also important to examine as many roads to your site as possible. Find blogs where your clients hang out. Write articles and publish them on the web. There are hundreds of sites that will publish you articles for free. For a nominal fee some sites will push your article out to thousands of other sites looking for content, Isnare.com is a good example. This is great from three perspectives. One, you will get a tremendous amount of links back to your site. Secondly, this will lead to increase traffic and thirdly writing articles will help establish you as an expert in your field. There are newsletters, co-registration, affiliate marketing. The key is to research these and see what will work for you.

Hire or not to Hire outside help

“How do I know if I need help?”

You might need help if:

1.Your clients and customers are not able to find you on the search engines. 2.You do not know why your competitors are in the top ten search results and you are on page 10,001! 3.You can not keep up with the changing technologies and even the changes in the market. 3.You do not have the time to take away from what you do best, running your business!

If you do need help, do your home work.

1.Get references and call them. 2.Get specifics about how they have helped their clients. 3.Find out how many clients they have and how many your account manager will handle. 4.Get a specific action calendar. Know what they are going to do and when it will be complete. 5.Make sure they understand your products, services and goals. 6.Do not be afraid to get another company to “audit” their work.

Finally This is serious business and one can loose a lot of money and time very quickly if you do not do it correctly. The bottom line is, if your customers cannot find you, they will find someone else. If you do not have someone in house with a passion to help grow your business. Find someone who knows what is important to the search engines and will not get you banned.

Just blame the Cuban Trade Embargo

by Trevor Wallace

Ask any cigar smoker on this planet and they will let you know that no cigar in this world comes close to a Cuban cigar. One of the most popular cigars in the world are the Cohiba and the Montecristo brand. Featured in many movies and other popular things, I think it’s safe to say that Cuban cigars are a popular high class item. If you happen to reside in the USA, well than you got something else on your hands - the trade embargo to be exact. The only way you can get Cuban cigars in the USA is by smuggling them. A safer but convenient way is through the internet.

Cuban cigars are 100% forbidden in the United States of America. It is with great sadness that I must report that this ban is not limited to Cuban stogies but everything that is made in Cuba. Permission to trade between these two countries can do so much good but I guess politics are politics. If you really want, you can purchase pre-embargo Cuban cigars but good luck finding them. They either are all ’smoked out’ or they are going for literally thousands of dollars a stick.

However, their are two solutions to this problem. The first one is travel to a country such as Canada and smoke them their. Canada is a place which is the closest to the United States in many ways and Cuban cigar distribution is regulated by the Cuban government. Plus their are other countries but Canada is the most preferred one. You can go to Mexico for Cuban cigars too but down their it is a much bigger risk on your part regarding the authenticity of your Cuban cigars. The second thing you can do is purchase from an online retailer.

Most of these retailers are in countries outside of the United States so it shouldn’t be a problem at all. However, make sure you get it from an authorized by Habanos S.A distributor. Regrettably, their are not many of them even on the internet. Quiet possibly just an handful or even less.

Fake Cuban cigars are a problem everywhere and you should use your common sense and proper judgement before you dish out your hard earned dollar bills. Since most people never held a real authentic Cuban cigar before, it’s quite easily to fool them. Most companies on the internet just ship out Dominican cigars with Cuban cigar bands on them. Very sad for the Cuban cigar enthusiast and people who love them alike. When traveling, purchase from and authorized retailer and never from a mom and pop store - you are guaranteed to get a Mexican cigar disguised as Cuban from them. Until the embargo is taken off, it is still possible to get real Cuban cigars, you just have to find them.

Are Doorway Pages Bad

by Terry Stanfield

You’ve probably come across a doorway page before when you were surfing the Web. Doorway pages are similar to landing pages except doorway pages are practically empty. Doorway page are created specifically to utilize search engine optimization techniques and search engine marketing to get listed in the highest spot possible on search engine results page. Sometimes the person who stumbles onto a doorway page will need to click through the doorway page to get to the actual website that they were trying to get to and sometimes the page uses a Meta refresh, or an HTML code that instantly redirects the reader to another website.

Doorway pages often use a sneaky form of SEO strategies where the text on the page has nothing to do with the actual product that the company is selling but uses popular search terms in an effort to get a higher search engine results.

Doorway pages are essentially a form of the old bait and switch technique. For example if you were looking for a site on natural dog food and you did a Google search for natural dog food and you clicked on the first link at the top of the search engine results page because the description of that site that is listed under the link said that page was about the best kinds of natural dog food. Then after you clicked on that link you were taken to the web site of a nationally known pet food manufacturer who was trying to sell you their new line of natural dog food. That company is using a doorway page as a method of search engine marketing. By using search engine optimized text on the doorway page the company was able to get ranked very high by the search engine spider and was able to draw you in with a search engine marketing article but instantly sent you to their page hoping that you would buy their new dog food line.

Because a lot doorway pages are set up to act essentially as spam and to use any method available to get a particular website to the top of the search engine results page search engine spiders now are on the lookout for doorway page. The search engines will sometimes ban pages that use doorway pages from being indexed or showing up on the search engine results page. Doorway pages that have an instant Meta redirect or Meta refresh are usually not banned by the search engine spiders. Websites that use doorway pages will often use a redirect so that the webpage will still show up on a search engine’s search results page. Some website creators try to get around the ban by creating search engine optimized and content rich doorway pages but the search engine spiders are adapting are now learning how to spot doorway pages that are set up to try and attract web traffic using black hat SEO that has nothing to do with the actual content of the website.

Search engine marketing is a great tool and most play fair. For those who do not beware, the search engines engineers sit around all day figuring out how to stop the cheaters. If you stumble across some “top secret” strategy that someone is trying to sell you, be assured that the search engines already know about and have adjusted their algorithms to deal with it. Instead of wasting time and money, just do it right.

How to cut that Cuban cigar

by Juan Pedro

When I think of Cuban cigars, I think of how hundreds of years ago it was discovered and officially discovered by Christopher Columbus. The history of Cuban cigars is just part of the whole deal and a very small part too.

Even cutting a Cuban cigar is an art in it self. Cut it right, and you’ll have one of the best smokes to enjoy. Cut it wrong and than you just have to suffer. Don’t worry or get nervous if its your first time because you will find a way that suits you. Around the world, their are three styles of cutting it so lets see what will suit you.

The first thing that you need to do is actually inspect the end that is about to be cut. If you bought a fine quality cigar, you will notice that the end of the head is almost totally closed by a little cap of tobacco leaf that was left over to keep the tobacco fresh and in place. This is really going to be the gauge that you will use in order to cut the cigar properly.

Clip it too far and the cigar will start getting loose and eventually the Cuban tobacco will fall out. You must understand these are hand rolled, although hand rolling is much better than machine rolled, you still have to be careful and not damage your cigar entirely. Try opening it up by seventy five percent - just the cap that is.

So what cutter should you get? I suggest trying out the Snap cutter or also known as the ‘guillotine’. You basically slide your cigar inside it and quickly drop the blade on the outer cap. These are well known and most preferred as you can fit them in you suit jacket and take them on the go with you. Plus the cuts it makes is perfect for all Cuban cigar lovers. This blade was invented somewhat recently and has caught on fairly well with the rest of the Cuban cigar smoking crowd.

What the idea is that you should always have all the cutters required for you to enjoy and more importantly to use them. See Cuban cigars come in different shapes and sizes, so if you have all the styles, you are pretty much set for any kind of Cuban cigar that are out there. As some cutters work better on others, it is highly recommended that you get all the styles of cutters in close proximity to you.

What you don’t want to do is use scissors - I highly discourage that although a lot of people do it. Cuban cigars are amazing so you should take that extra step and get some Cuban cigar cutters. If you are not sure, just go down to that Cigar shop around the corner and they’ll help you out. It’s just that easy.

Maintain your Humidor or else

by Trevor Wallace

Cuban cigars are something that you can store for a while (Up to 15 years) or you can enjoy them at a single sitting. If you buy in large quantities like most cigar buyers, than in order for you to enjoy them for a long time, you must not only get a humidor, but also learn about proper humidor management. You see, although a Cuban cigar can be aged for 15 years (The taste is phenomenal) but if exposed to nature’s fury, you might not even be able to smoke it the next day. Proper care can only take place by placing your cigars in a humidor and than taking care of that humidor.

Now your humidor is designed to store your cigars at ideal temperature. Make sure that which ever one you get, it does this basic job first. The ideal temperature is between 71 to 74 degrees. This is very close to the humidity levels in the country of Cuba. No wonder they make the best cigars in the world! A humidor’s job is to maintain the above temperature and if you take care of that humidor, you can easily have your own stash of well aged Cuban cigars.

Now the next step is to monitor that the temperature doesn’t go above or lower the required limit. What is the best way of doing this? By using a separate thermometer for temperature and a hygrometer for humidity. Some of the humidors actually come with these built in features. So you could be relaxing on the couch and at the same time monitoring the temperature. When you notice a difference in the humidity levels, simply correct it. One thing you must remember is keep your humidor itself in a cool place and away from Sunlight. The UV rays will dry out the fine Cuban tobacco.

Every once in a while you would have to charge your humidor. In fact, it is what keeps the humidor from not doing its job. You can recharge it by adding a solution every couple of months. However, this is a process in itself, and you should refer to the instructions in your humidor, as they are different for all. Last step is to test everything out because you don’t want anything to go wrong. If something does, adjustments are simple and than you should be on your way.

You should love your humidor just as much as your Cuban cigars. The idea is to enjoy every single cigar that you get or store. It is actually exactly like wine, the more you age your cigars, the more amazing they are going to taste. So take of your humidor, take care of your humidor and enjoy fine smokes all the time.

That is a fake Cuban cigar

by Trevor Wallace

If you are smoking Cuban cigars in the United States, watch out as they are illegal. This is due to the trade embargo placed by John F. Kennedy. Actually if you are a US citizen, you can’t enjoy any Cuban products. However, the true Cuban cigar lover isn’t stopped by this and regrettably, a lot of people around the world have been taking advantage of such normal day folks by selling them fake cuban cigars.

I guess its true for all top value products that your are just bound to find people who will try to sell you knock offs for cheap. Same thing here with Cuban cigars. Especially on the internet where some people are selling boxes of Cohiba for $200.00. You can’t even get Cohiba’s in Cuban for that much folks. Anyways, when you smoke a Cuban cigar, you would know once you hold it, the quality just can’t be touched.

One of the first places that you may end up finding imitation Cuban cigars is while you’re on vacation in another country. Most people that are traveling to the Caribbean on a cruise or perhaps on vacation in Mexico may love to sneak one of these forbidden smokes. More than likely, however, what you are getting is a cheap imitation, even though it may be a fairly decent cigar. Most people that purchase these fake Cuban cigars really would not know the difference anyway, they simply enjoy the thought of having something that is otherwise unavailable.

So the process of identifying a Cuban cigar is actually a little tricky. But some of the main things to look for is to make sure the Cuban cigar (If you ever do decide to buy it from the streets) doesn’t come in some plastic wrapper. Scam artists usually put them in cellophane wrappers. No real Cuban cigar ever comes in a cellophane wrapper. Their is the Fonseca brand but it comes wrapped in a very tiny sheet of almost silk like paper.

Plus the main indication that should turn on your radar is the price that you are getting the Cuban cigars at. If its cheap like $100 to $200 a box, you are being had. Go to Cuba and they will give you this look if you ask for Cuban cigars for that price. Cubans take their Cuban cigars very personally and rightfully so. It’s a product that has history going back for hundred of years and if someone is selling it to you for that low, they are simply insulting your intelligence. Not to mention you are completely wasting your money.

Know spywares lurking in your computer waiting to cause damage.

by Terry Gilfeather

In the virtual universe that the internet is, just like the real universe, good things can be bad. It all depends on how they are used.

Spywares actually started with good intentions. If a site owner understands the user of the website better, the site can respond accordingly so that his or her experience with the site can be more pleasing with little effort from the user. This can be a good thing since it makes the visit experience more natural.

Overuse in that intention, and worse, misusage so that private financial data is extracted without consent, however, the spyware becomes a true devil. The interest of the spyware reverses to evil and instead of trying to enhance the site user’s experience, the goal is simply to steal information.

With the boom of the internet or the virtual universe in the mid to late 90’s, spywares also followed booming. Too many spywares and malwares are released to the internet by evil intentioned programmers that it is no longer safe to ignore them since info stolen can and actually be used to steal money to huge amounts.

The boom in spywares led to a boom on anti spywares also. These are created to recognise and beat the spywares to death. Often they are successful. Because while there are usually uncoordinated efforts in creating spywares, which usually are created by isolated individuals or groups, the anti spywares are created by established programmers working consistently together to find solutions.

It is when special spywares are created in a coordinated, well thought out manner that it sometimes become major hazards. The moment a spyware is released to the virtual universe, it can start causing havoc immediately. Anti spywares only come out later after the spywares have led to damage.

Eventually the worst happens - spywares which pretend to be anti spywares are created by persistent bad intentioned programmers. This is the most difficult to fight againts esp for the unsuspecting.

That is why it pays to really understand spywares and malwares as you enter the virtual universe. No matter what firewalls or antispywares measures you have, it is bound to be broken at some point by newer spywares. And for the layman, this is especially important because you need to wade through the technical jargons to know what the real threat is. Unless you understand and take appropriate measures, you will be damaged at one point in time.

Do your Cuban cigars right

by Pat Sherman

Are you a real cigar enthusiast, than please get a humidor if you want to savor your Cuban cigars for a long time. These humidors are available in a lot of different cigar shops and you can find a great one on the internet too. Cigars (Cubans are made perfect!) although built very nicely, they can’t stand the fury that nature throws at them. Especially up and down temperatures can mess up your Cuban cigar.

Humidors are also used to ‘enhance’ your current Cuban cigars by aging them. Yes you can ‘age’ certain cigars just like wine. In fact, the whole process is called Cuban tobacco fermentation. Just like how it works for wine, aging a cigar can greatly enhance its flavors. The ‘filler’ tobacco used for the Cohiba cigar is actually aged for 5 years before being used. Plus all Cuban Cigars are hand rolled, except a very few exceptions such as the Puritos or ‘Minis’. Why would you not want to protect something that is so valuable?

Also did you know that all Cuban cigars are hand made from the time they pick that tobacco to the time they place the appropriate logo on the cigar. I couldn’t believe it until I saw the whole thing go down on a video. To say that I was blown away would be an understatement. So what kind of humidor should you select for your cigar? It all depends on how many cuban cigars you plan to store and where you plan to store them. There are 3 main different types of humidors: Table, Room and Portable.Table humidors are something that you would want to leave in your living room as its the most stylish and also the most expensive kind.

The second kind of humidor is the room humidor. These so called ‘room humidors’ are literally rooms that are turned into humidors. They are found in most average to large sized cigar companies. These rooms are super high tech and control the temperature of each area in the humidor to almost perfection. Cigars in a room humidor stay as close to perfect as possible. Last and definitely not the least, a portable cigar humidor is what I recommend if you have a small to medium cigar collection.

These are well kept and maintained rooms that are monitored constantly my automatic and pre-set gauges. A portable humidor is what most individual purchase. It is small, affordable and it works. A lot of people get custom designed humidors to reflect their love and appreciation for the cuban cigars. The only downside is that these humidors are fairly small and can only hold 10 - 15 cigars. So regardless of how many cuban cigars you buy, make sure you got a nice humidor to stack those beauty’s in. Plus only share it with good company - real people who deserve it.
