We all look forward to our annual vacations and considering you pay for it all in advance; the average tourist puts themselves at risk from all manner of problems that could befall the vacation before and during it. Even now, many tourists do not believe that the cost of travel insurance is worth it and put everything at risk by traveling without it.

However, this attitude does not really make sense when you consider the potential problems that can befall any vacation it is amazing and the cost of this protection is a miserly 5 to 10 percent of the total cost of the vacation package. Not only could you be prevented from traveling through accident or illness but even worse, they could happen when you were on vacation and in which case you could either lose the deposit or be forced to pay local medical bills.

Other situations that can occur are when you cannot actually keep your reservation and of course the entire amount you have paid on the vacation will be lost. However, most travel insurance policies will take this situation and many others like emergency medical help, including airlifts, missing luggage, airline delays plus others into account and cover the costs incurred.

There is nothing strange in this situation but is surprising just how many people do not even check their insurance plans to see what they are insured for.

The fine print on insurance policies can be confusing but is necessary to check as you may be laboring under the false belief that you are covered on areas of the travel insurance for another policy but are not insured at all.
