How to Kick Butt In Texas Holdem
Poker is one of the most exciting games available to play. The opportunity to play all the variations of poker comes with knowing the simple rules of the basic game. Each different version has very slight rule changes making playing the game straightforward.
The game play can be taught with very simple steps. No matter how many cards are dealt or how many players are present, the basics of poker apply to all types of the game. The player is able to focus on the more important parts of the game like bluffing, when he knows the basics of the game.
Depending upon table size and the type of game there can be any number of players. However, a dealer must be chosen but the deal can pass to other players, this dealer passes out the cards to the players. The role of the dealer is to decide who won the game and to regulate card deals.
After the dealer has shuffled them, the player to the right of the dealer cuts the cards. All the players place the ante into the middle. At this time, either the players can wait for the dealer to begin the game or they can bet, what is called a blind bet.
Then, depending upon the version played, the dealer deals out the appropriate number of face down cards. Another bet is made or the players check. Checking means that the players do not feel the need to bet on the cards that they have.
After each face up card is dealt, the players either bet or check. During this time, the players bluff about what they have in their hand. A player bluffs by betting a certain amount making the other players believe that they have the better hand.
The difference between all other card games and poker is the use of bluffing. Other games use a form of bluffing but poker is the only game that uses cards and bluffing at the same time. Bluffing is an essential part of the game and where it received its name, the French word Poque means to bluff.
Through the game, if one player bets and all the others fold, then the betting player wins the hand. A player calls when they see a bet or raise it. A player folds if they have bet but do not want to continue in the game.
If there are players who wish to see or raise the bet, then, after the last card has been laid out, there is a showdown. This is where all the remaining players flip over their hidden cards to see who won the hand. The highest hand wins the pot and the game starts over again.
Players bet by using chips that represent the money with which they are playing. Once a player has bet all their chips, they have gone “all in.” If they player who has gone all in loses their hand, they are then eliminated from the game.
Poker is not a hard game to play if you know the basic rules of game play. The hardest part of the game is knowing when to bluff and when to fold your hand. Many people use poker as a means of income, this is not recommended unless you have developed your talent of bluffing.
