In order to record sound effects for a personal or professional sound effect library one first needs a quality recorder. Personally I’ve tried all sorts of pricey gear and microphones throughout my sonic adventures only to discover that a solid $150 to $400 handheld digital recorder no larger than an old-school cassette tape box suffices to create sounds good enough for placement in any Film, TV, and media project. In addition, these units run on battery power and the recorded files can be dragged onto your desktop via USB.

You must make sure that any recorder you purchase records up to at least a 48k sample rate .wav file because audio for video is prepared as 48k. Any 44.1k samples you have would work fine on a CD but for DVD usage they will have to be up-converted to 48k which can result in “aliases,” sort of sonic ghosts that compromise the quality of your recording. Also, 48k sound effects command a higher price on downloadable sites because their sound quality is simply better due to more samples per second of audio.

Two basic categories of sound effects to be recorded are “ambiences” and “hits.” Hits are single audio events like a burp, splash, or car horn. Ambiences are longer recordings generally between 30 seconds and 10 minutes that contain background sounds such as those found on city streets, in a hotel lobby, or a doctor’s office.

In creating a library it is most valuable to have many of both types as they are both used in sound design. You will find that ambiences are the easiest to obtain, as you merely have to go to a new location such as a supermarket or post office and just stand there and record. Hits need a little more forethought and preparation such as collecting the items you’d like to record or stalking the neighbor’s dog for that perfect dog bark.

The basics of recording a sound effect is literally as simple as hitting the record button. However, there are several tips to keep in mind in order to get the best recordings possible.

2. Record all of your sounds as “hot” as you can, meaning as loud as possible without overloading the microphone. You need to pull back from your source if you notice a red LED light on your recorder which signals that your incoming signal is too hot. Capturing the strongest signal without distorting is the goal.

4. Wind hitting the head of your microphone will ruin your recordings so keep your recorder out of the wind by using trees, walls, or your body as a physical barrier. If you cut frequencies below 200-500 khz during editing you can get rid of some wind sound but usually your recordings will be ruined by wind.

5. Music from live performances and loudspeakers must remain out of your recordings. If you accidentally include such music in the background of your ambiences it will make your recordings useless. Selling and using sound effects with such music is a violation of copyright law since that music itself is copyrighted.

Florida is one of the greatest spots in the United States for scuba diving. The waters are full of marine life and interesting diving items such as ship wrecks.

Scuba diving spots are many and include fresh water dives for caves and caverns. Many sea vessels have been purposefully sunk in areas to create artificial reefs.

Pennekamp Park and the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary are popular places to dive. Trips to the USS Spiegel Grove and USCG cutters Bibb and Duane provide great underwater views

Also the USS Spiegel Grove which is a 510 ft. landing ship dock lying upright in 140ft of water. Much of the wreck lies between 70ft and 100ft.

The US Coast Guard Cutters Bibb and Duane are 327 ft. Treasury Class cutters in the Florida diving area. The dives are serviced by local dive operators with regular day trips, sometimes up to twice a day depending on weather conditions.

Pensacola

There is no way you could cram everything there is to know about these holy warriors by writing a world of warcraft paladin guide in just a few sentences. This is one of the most versatile of classes so there is so much to say about this class but hopefully this will give you a detailed enough overview of what it takes to be a paladin.

Paladins are a class of their own. They’re said to be hybrids of warriors, Priests and other DPS classes like Mages or Warlocks. By the way, DPS means Damage Per Second which means a class which give out lots of melee damage or close combat damage.

Though they can be defined as being a hybrid classes borrowing traits from these more specialized classes, the paladin use of these abilities is such that they are recognised as being too powerful. They are master at PvP combat and if you are a warrior such as I am you will know that they are tough to beat. Their nickname is “holy warrior” since they can tank as well as heal and also cast spells. A very powerful and unfair combination if you are not a paladin.

So Paladins specialize as tanks by having in one of their abilities tree called the “Protection Tree” spells and learned talents which enables them to both take and give enormous damage to and from several enemies at once. Special spells here include “Holy Shield”, “Retribution”, and “Consecration” which all add up to give the Paladin well sought after tanking abilities which for some raids and instances are far superior to that of any other class.

The “Retribution” tree allows the paladin to have the pick of spells and abilities that allow them to deal out lots of DPS and close combat/melee damage against their enemies. From this tree they have spell such as “Seal of Command” and “Crusader Strike” which allows paladins to be of a key role during raids.

Holy Warrior is the third tree and is the tree where paladins can attain abilities to increase their healing power. Their healing speciality is to heal different players in their group. The fact that they can also fight as warriors and can heal makes them very useful as back up to tanks and since they can heal they can also back up priests. Any good group should have a paladin not only because of the fact that they can back up priests or warriors but also because they can do the same job just as well but with added abilities on top.

So if you see yourself as a healer or tank or dps expert but don’t want to start up three different characters there is no need to start a warrior to tank, priest to heal, or Mage to do dps. A paladin can do all these three things at once. For this reason the paladin is a class that is almost indispensable in groups and more than ideal in end of game action like raids or large instances where paladins are highly sought after.

Very often people who are considering getting a tattoo want to know which part of the body hurts the most to get a tattoo and which part hurts the least. Some areas which hurt a lot such as the ribcage are usually chosen by those who have a lot more experience in getting tattoos, if it is your first tattoo and you are rather uncomfortable with the prospect of having to bear pain, you can stick with getting tattoos on fleshier locations such as your arm or your leg. When getting tattoos, you should try your best not to concentrate on where tattoos will hurt the most but how great your artwork will look on you when it is finished.

Where a tattoo will hurt the least is relative to several factors but the less sensitive the skin is, the less a tattoo should hurt. When most people try to describe to another person what getting a tattoo feels like they say it is more irritating than anything else because of the consistent pin pricks. Those experienced in the tattoo industry will say that the more exposed the area of the body is to outside elements, the tougher the skin is and therefore the tattoo will hurt less in those areas.

What one person finds hurtful can be simply annoying to another person. The level of hurt which is experienced will also depends on a persons own tolerance level for pain. Some people are more sensitive to pain than others.

Some people have described the pain of getting a tattoo as something somewhat like getting a bad case of sunburn. The pain may not be that long-lasting but the way you bear pain and your stamina will have a lot to do with it.

If you are having a bad mental day then it is best to hold off because if you are distracted or aggravated it is likely going to really tick you off once the tattoo gets started. If you are really concerned with pain but want to get a tattoo then ask your artist which places hurt the least when getting a tat. Your guitar playing can also reach a “plateau” and you feel like you’re playing the same thing over and over and not improving.

Most people don’t think of the layout design of their book as an area that can impact the printing cost, but it can have an effect.

Printers print pages in blocks, called signatures. A 32-page signature is most common, so if your page count is divisible by 32, that’s the most economical option possible. However, the general rule of thumb is to try to not print less than a quarter signature of 8 pages. So if your book is 266 pages, see if you can drop a couple pages to get it down to 264. You’ll definitely notice the cost savings for the print run.

So what are some of the tricks to adjust the number of pages? First of all, see if you can adjust your margins slightly. Slight changes probably are not noticeable to most readers, but the price difference will definitely be noticeable to you.

Adjust the leading (space between lines). A very small adjustment might be barely visible to the average reader, but it could result in dropping a few pages from your book — saving you money on your print run.

Doublecheck with your printer to make sure they use standard 32-page signatures. You certainly don’t want to go through the hassle of adjusting your layout to squeeze an extra couple pages – only to find out that your printer uses 12-page signatures instead.

Be sure, too, that you are printing at a standard trim size. Some standard sizes include 5.5 x 8.5″, 6 x 9″, and 8.5 x 11″. Deviate too much from a standard size and you will generate paper waste on the press. That’s paper the printer has to just throw away, but you still pay for it.

Don’t assume that the trim size you are using for your book will work just fine. Ask your printer’s sales rep for recommendations for your trim size. Maybe they will recommend that you drop your size by just 1/8″ or 1/4″. Wouldn’t it be worth it to do that to save money on the print run? Almost certainly!
