You could also stencil or stamp the backs of your cards, so long as they are uniform. 3. Size matters. You should make your cards a size and shape that is comfortable for you, regardless of how they might feel to others. Play around with different sizes and practice the shuffling and handling so you can be sure of your decision. 4. Materials – use high quality materials in the creation of your cards so they will endure the course of time without fading, smearing, tearing, etc. Because you will be investing so much of your time and energy into this project, it is only natural that you will want the deck to survive lots of use.

The history of tarot cards is a subject of debate amongst its followers. Some people claim the card game began in China; others argue its origins in India, still others believe it all started in Egypt. All three arguments, however, find the eventual; migration of tarot into Italy and France where there are actual records of its rules, symbols, and uses.

It is believed that although tarot existed long before the 15th century, it was sometime in the mid 1400s that the game of tarot became popular enough amongst the upper classes to produce evidence that today is seen as valid.

It is in Northern Italy and Eastern France where we find the first tarot decks. These decks included four suits of number cards (1-10) in addition to a king, queen, knight, and “special cards” with symbolic pictures of the Wheel of Fortune, Death, and the Moon.

Originally the tarot cards were used to play a game of trumps with the special cards serving as eternal trumps, outranking all the others. It is assumed that the special trumps eventually evolved into a ranking system of their own, thereby giving particular value to the symbols contained in the pictures.

As the game spread throughout Europe, the pictures were changed to reflect the culture and customs of the host country. Though the pictures changed, the artists took note of the particular elements in each picture and were careful to maintain those elements, thus causing a hub-bub around them that heightened their value and meaning.

One objective of tarot history is to trace the changes the cards have undergone throughout the centuries. In so doing, we are able to identify consistent themes indicating a common thread in the human experience. This leads us to believe that the pictures on the cards have a deeper meaning and purpose than merely serving as game pieces.

In early Christianity, all cards were deemed “tools of the devil” because people often replaced church-going with card-playing. The tarot cards were especially considered workings of the devil because of the added quality of the symbolism and hidden meaning. This propelled tarot into the underworld of secret and eventually into the Occult.

Occult, which literally means “hidden world”, was considered “devil’s work” by the established church, primarily because of the mystery surrounding occult beliefs. Even today, the mainstream church poses heavy warnings against the occult for fear of its dangers on the human soul.

Because of its cross-county journeys through the centuries, its varied symbols, and its associations with the occult, tarot cards remain a mystery yet today. The history of tarot cards is a fascinating study and one well worth your time as it is full of rich stories from many exotic places. Walt Disney was a peerless man whose main goal in life seems to have been to entertain. His fifty-nine Academy Award nominations (and twenty-six Oscars) attest to that as fact, as do the theme parks he first designed which are now desirable destinations for families all over the globe

It all began in Kansas City with a series animated cartoons he called “Laugh O Grams” which were shown at a local theater to the delight of audiences in the early 1920s. The move to Hollywood to establish a studio with his brother Roy followed closely his first taste of success.

Some success with a series of shorts called “Alice Comedies” was followed up by an instant hit with a character known as “Oswald the Lucky Rabbit”. When Disney lost the rights to Oswald to Universal Studios, however, it was back to the drawing board, and Mickey Mouse was created. Based on a pet mouse Disney kept while in Kansas City, Mickey had Walt’s voice and personality. Audiences fell in love.

Stepping into the bold venture of full length animated features, he premiered Snow White and the Seven Dwarves in 1938, and the rest is history. For seventy years we have been going to Disney movies, meeting and falling in love with new characters, laughing at the comedy, cheering for charming adventurers, holding our breath at their narrow escapes, and singing along with wonderful music.

One of the biggest problems that I encountered when I first got into Texas Holdem was figuring out what cards to play in what Position. Often I would get burned on a hand that I thought was a good starting hand.

There’s clearly a lot more to poker betting strategy, including position and acting first vs. last. Generally speaking, though, if you’re going to take a shot at that pot, and you’re in a position to act first, there’s a good chance everyone else will fold; however, you’d better think carefully about the pot odds the opponents will be getting after your bet is in there.

When you are playing Texas Hold’em, there are various ways to play the flop to maximize your winnings. Many times, the decision that you are going to make is going to be based not only by what is on the board, but by how the opponent or opponents have been playing that are left remaining in the hand.
