Multi Tabling Tips
One of the great things about online poker is that you can play in more than one game at once. Most online poker rooms allow you to play at multiple tables at the same time. Let’s take a look at how to play effectively while playing in a bunch of games at the same time.
Before that, let’s look at some of the advantages of multi tabling. The most obvious reason is that you can play a lot more hands in the same amount of time. If you can maintain the same level of play, or close to it, you will dramatically increas your hourly win rate. Of course, it will also increase your hourly losses if you’re not a winning player.
Another advantage of multi tabling is that you can play smaller stakes and still make decent profits. By playing in smaller staked games, you can play with a smaller bank roll without as much risk of going broke. Let me show you why.
If you play in the $5/$10 no limit game with $1,000, and that is your entire bankroll, you will be at risk to lose your entire bankroll at any time. One bad break and you could be broke. Now, if you took that same $1,000, you could play at 10 tables at the .50c/$1.00 game for $100 each. You still have $1,000 in play, but are never risking more money than you have at any one table. It is obviously harder to go broke, yet your earning potential is the same. You might even make more this way. Let me show you why.
If you can play at 90% effectiveness of you single table level while playing 10 tables, you would make 10% less playing the ten tables. But, that’s not the only thing to consider. How much better are the players at the $5/$10 than the .50c/$1.00. I think you’d agree it will more than make up for the 10% decrease in your play. Maybe a lot more.
Okay, here are your tips. When you start to multi table, build up slow. It takes time to get used to playing more than one table. Add tables as you get comfortable, drop a table when you feel overwhelmed.
Another good rule is to keep your play simple and solid. By doing this you won’t run into as many tough decisions. When you do run into a difficult hand you will be able to take your time and make a good play.
Don’t play so many tables that you are only on auto pilot. If your big decisions are done on auto pilot, you are playing too many tables, and you need to cut back. You still want to have time to think about tough situations, otherwise you will start losing.
Don’t just play all day at the first tables that come open. When you find the styles at the table make for a lot of tough decisions, consider finding another table. You want to be at tables where the play is straight forward.
Our last tip is a key one. When multi tabling, play the same game. Don’t try to play two SNGs, a MTT, and six cash games. The decisions are so different at all the tables that you will get lost between games. If you play all tables cash, or SNG, or MTT, you will be able to get in a groove with the decisions you need to make, and situations that you face.
Multi tabling can allow players with small bankrolls to increase their hourly earning rates. You don’t have to play the big games to make good money playing poker. A lot of good players are doing this, seeing the value of multi tabling.
