Star Wars the Movie had been a great hit all over the world and had created a streamline of Star Wars fanatics from people of all ages. Star wars is an epic movie that goes way backing 1970. Anyone who has spent time in a bar or restaurant can recognize a great bartender. If you’re in the bartending profession, there are a few steps you can take to improve your skills. Without question, this will translate to a happier working environment and ultimately, higher tips. Here are seven steps you can take to help you be a better bartender:

Step One: Greet And Smile

It seems so easy … greet your customers, welcome them, and smile. Yet, it seems to be a lost art at some establishments. Be cognizant of how you greet your customers, particularly newcomers, and be sure they feel welcome. You never know what newbie will become a valued regular.

Step Two: When Crowds Arrive, Let Them Know You’re Alive

It’s the common dilemna. Customers are three deep at the bar and you’re swamped. What to do? A simple smile followed with a quick “I’ll be right with you” is often all a customer wants. Most people are smart enough to realize you’re busy and it’ll be a few minutes until they get their drink. Acknowledging them can net you a generous tip.

Step Three: Recognize The Regulars

Most people go to a bar not only for the drinks, but for socialization. Regulars like to be recognized and treated special, if only in some small way. Know their names and greet them by name.

Step Four: Welcome The First Timer

If it’s an unfamiliar face, ask them if it’s their first time visiting your establishment. This goes a long way making people feel welcome. And if they have been in before, it’s a good way to remind yourself you’ve got a repeat customer at your bar. Welcome them back!

Step Five: Cultivate Relationships With Your Servers

My friend Candy and I decided on my eighteenth birthday, that we were going to go and get a tattoo in honor of our adulthood. Candy knew exactly what kind of tattoo she wanted, but I was undecided. Tigger had been her favorite character for ever, and she wanted to be reminded of him permanently. I somehow didn’t believe that a child-like image of Tigger was the correct way to celebrate adulthood, but hey, that’s Candy! I wanted to make sure that if I was going to be permanently marked for life, it had to be by something meaningful. I didn’t know what, but maybe something that said “this is me”. We arrived at our local tattoo parlor an hour early, to look through the tattoo books, there were stacks, and I was hoping that by searching the tattoo books I would find what I wanted.

The first tattoo books I looked through had some really horrific artwork in them, no matter how cleverly disguised as art, these were not for me, and I started to get worried. I was looking for a smallish, feminine tattoo that I could confidently wear on my ankle and would represent who I am. I was concerned that I would not find anything in the tattoo books at the parlor.

I looked through a number of tattoo books in the first half hour and found some of them ugly and some really beautiful, but none that said “this is you”, or leapt out from the page at me. At this point in time I was becoming concerned and one of the tattoo artists saw this. He came over to me with another armful of tattoo books and I thought, oh no, not more! But after asking me a few questions about what I liked and who I am, he went through the tattoo books until he felt he had the right one, opened it and pointed at the perfect tattoo for me.

He showed me a small rainbow colored dolphin, it was attractive and dainty. It was what I was looking for, I am an artist and I felt that the colors and the dolphin were both representative of the kind of person I was. I loved dolphins and the ocean, I set down the other tattoo books and nodding to him, I realized I had found my perfect tattoo.

A while ago I was helping this other friend of mine look for a tattoo that would be perfect for her. We looked through the tattoo books, but she seemed to be having the same problem I had. I was looking at tattoo books, just to pass time and when I opened one of them, I found what she was looking for. A few hours later we left the parlor, happy and smiling, she with her perfect tattoo, me, with a happy friend. I would like to suggest to you, if you are looking for the perfect tattoo, you also look through plenty of tattoo books until you find the right one.
