Is the Nintendo Wii Changing Our Lives?
The Nintendo Wii is distinctly different than any other gaming system on the market. The Nintendo Wii’s official launch date with in 2006 and has since taken most by surprise. Of all the advanced features of the Nintendo Wii, wireless controllers seem to be the most recognized. Flexibility is one of the top features. The Nintendo Wii not only allows you to play games, but also allows you to edit pictures from your camera, or surf the internet just to name a few.
Wiimote and Nunchuck are the two main controllers of the Nintendo Wii. These allow you to interact with games using motions, gestures, and angles. While many gaming systems have tried to imitate these features over the years using cameras and such, they have failed due to lack of developer support. A base Nintendo Wii console comes with 512mb memory built in, but for all the hardcore gamers that need more, you can simply purchase an additional SD memory card.
Compared to the 2 other main game consoles, Nintendo Wii offers a greater variety of games. Nintendo Wii accomplishes this by giving players a much more physical experience. The motion control enhancement feature allows user to play while reflecting actual movements, thus giving them a more tactical hands on experience. You will see both player one and player two on the screen giving you a feeling of controlling the whole team and not just an individual. Using the Wiimote and Nunchuck, players receive a much more in depth playing experience.
Nintendo Wii defiantly took the top position right away. With the new success, there is definitely a margin threat to the Xbox 360. Within just a week Nintendo sol 310,000 Wii’s while Xbox 360 only sold 110,000, and PS3 at 50,000.
One of the features of the Wii is the ability to create Mii’s. A Mii is a virtual character you create for each person wanting to play. When playing, you can choose to play against other Mii’s to give you a more personalized experience. Playing you Mii often will ensure you increase your skill level. Niintendo Wii will keep track of this progress for you so you can see the results. With the added feature of plugging in to the internet, you can play web based games such as Bejeweled without and downloads.
Physical therapists have found the Wii to be a useful tool in rehabilitation following strokes, surgery, broken bones and combat injuries. According to what a physical therapist told USA Today, Wii games use movements similar to those used in traditional physical therapy, but patients get so mentally involved they are often oblivious to the rigor involved. Physical interfaces like Dance Dance Revolution have proven effective in exercise and weight loss regimens, and the wiimote extends active play to many more genres of games, and therefore to more varieties of players. Aside from exercise games, the wiimote’s application in serious games is more limited.
Other video games do have some health benefits. The main one being the eye-hand coordination, but that is about it.
Needless to say, the Nintendo Wii’s innovative design offers an entirely new kind of gaming experience, one to please coach potatoes and doctors alike.
