Comcast Cable Special Deals

by Rachel Smith

Dial up is a very slow way of getting online, but many people are still using it because it is simple and cheap. DSL has been around for many years, but it has traditionally been expensive and the extra speed that it gives is not always enough to make up for the effort of getting a new service. Considering the importance of Internet to daily life these days, having only these two options of getting online seems fairly bleak. However, over the last couple years, a different service emerged, known as broadband cable Internet. This service has proven to be a very popular service because it has been able to eliminate many of the problems that plague both dial up and DSL.

Comcast’s broadband cable Internet arose out of the knowledge that the infrastructure that delivers cable television also had the capacity to deliver Internet services. Once Comcast decided to go digital with its television services, the company updated all of its underground cables to accommodate more bandwidth transmission and to make it easier to transport data. This upgrade make it possible for the company to add on new broadband cable Internet services without compromising its cable television services. Internet, as a digital medium, is fully compatible with the transmission of digital television, and sharing the same infrastructure for the two services made it possible for Comcast to start offering an Internet service without extreme expense (and thus keeping prices competitive).

What broadband cable Internet excels most at is speed. For instance, when other types of services offer a couple of Mbps as their top speed, Comcast offers up to 8 Mbps. This difference in speed is due to the different technologies that carry services such as DSL and those that carry broadband cable Internet. As would be expected, as technology becomes even more advanced, Comcast will still be able to maintain a higher connection speed than other types of services.

Even at this time, it is possible to see that Comcast’s high speed Internet technology is moving forward to the time when even higher speeds are needed. The company added PowerBoost, a way of giving bursts of speed at certain times, to its service recently. Though PowerBoost speeds (which reach 12 Mbps) are not maintained at all times, they come into play when extra speed is necessary. PowerBoost is an innovative way of allocating limited bandwidth to the customers who are in need of more of it at any given time, and the technology will likely become more widespread in the future.

For the basic Internet user, Comcast’s high speed Internet services offer more than enough speed to do even extremely bandwidth-intensive applications. They also offer enough speed to provide each member of a household with enough bandwidth to simultaneously get online. Some of the most common uses of the Internet are to check email, share info and photos with friends and family, and to take advantage of online entertainment. Though some of the online entertainment sites require very fast connections, the higher speed Comcast connections provide plenty of speed.

As the popularity of broadband cable Internet keeps on increasing, we will probably soon see the day when other forms of Internet become obsolete. Broadband cable Internet provides a much higher quality service but, thanks to its reliance on existing infrastructure, is cost-effective for all users.

Incy Wincy Spider Liberator - yes, that’s a new invention meant to help spiders in your bathtub to escape from the drowning. You place the tiny ladder for the spider to climb up and get away from danger.

If you knew that, do you know about the Santa Claus Detector? Well, it’s a stocking you can hang beside the fireplace. It detects Santa when the unsuspecting chap gets down the chimney and gets into the house, tapping the soot off his red suit, and lights up and flashes like an alarm.

Darwin’s theory of natural selection talks about the survival of the fittest and there’s an invention to aid cats gain the most of it. The device combines a bird trapper and a cat feeder. It’s somewhat gory, but it’s weird and useful if you are lazy to feed your purring pet.

Welcome to the world of weird and wonderful blogs. There are many people who love writing about almost anything on this earth or something that they cook up. Blogging lets you have a creative outlet to talk about all things that enchant and impress you, so blogging about the weird and wonderful can be exciting, because you are sharing knowledge.

If you did know about the Santa Detector - which can also be equipped with a shot gun, if you say, “Bah! Humbug!” like Scrooge - you should consider it your noble duty to pass the information along.

Naturally, you are at liberty to agree or disagree that these facts and inventions are necessary. Some of them really make sense - like the air-conditioned shoes that can help you get rid of smelly feet, as powered by the compression in the heels when you walk. Whether it’s feasible or not, you have to appreciate the thought.

The world wide web is flooded with all sorts of information, often absolutely unnecessary, strange and silly. It doesn’t make sense and is weird. This kind of information is written by people who believe in writing about the unconventional aspects of life.

Reading some of these blogs about the weird and wonderful can keep you entertained for a long time and if you wish, you can add your two cents to them too. All you have to do is dig up something strange and let everyone know about it.

Comcast Delivers A True Broad Band Internet Connection

by Rachel Smith

There are lots of great things that you can get out of having a high speed Internet connection in your own home, but first you have to figure out what constitutes a high speed connection and then figure out how to get the fastest connection that you possibly can. That’s because not all Internet connections that claim to be “broad band” or “high speed” are equal in their abilities to deliver Internet information to your computer’s hard drive. There’s actually a lot more to high speed Internet than just getting a so called high speed connection!

Comcast provides a great illustration of this. It claims to have a broad band high speed connection and actually backs it up with download speeds that are as high as 12 mbps for short periods of time (to help out with the really big downloads) and 8 mbps the rest of the time. That’s plenty of speed to allow you to take advantage of the resources that the Internet has to offer. For example, it’s a lot easier to start your own online business when you have a faster Internet connection. You can upload pictures of your products more quickly, download the software that you need to run your business more quickly, and even correspond with clients more quickly.

A high speed Internet connection that’s based on cable technology like what you can get through Comcast is also a good move for entertainment and recreation as well. That’s because high speed Internet is a good way to enjoy amateur videos from YouTube, play online multiplayer computer games, and correspond with people from all over the world. Virtual reality is something that combines those last two. Specifically virtual worlds like Second Life and World of WarCraft will provide this experience for you. World of WarCraft has a kind of fantasy theme, while Second Life is more like an idealized version of the real world. Movies and music are also easy to download when you have a fast Internet connection.

Unfortunately other companies that provide their high speed Internet services using technologies other than cable just don’t deliver the same kind of speed. DSL for example, which is one of the more popular Internet access technologies, just doesn’t deliver very fast download speeds. It only delivers about 2 mbps at the most for private homes. More often DSL download speeds are more in the realm of well under 1 mbps! That’s a really slow download speed. This results from the fact that DSL service is delivered over phone lines instead of high quality coaxial cables.

Satellite Internet has similar shortcomings only they’re more pronounced, or more annoying, because of the fact that satellite Internet costs so much more than anything else. It’s about twice as expensive as cable from Comcast or the typical DSL service! Satellite Internet also has a time lag built into it that makes enjoying things like virtual reality even tougher.

The whole point is that in order to get the most out of the time that you spend on the Internet, you need a high bandwidth Internet connection like the one that you can get from Comcast.

The Pirates of the Caribbean - Swashbuckling Good Fun

by Steve Collins

Whether it is Johnny Depp’s famous portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow, or Orlando Bloom’s dashing Will Turner, the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN has quickly become an audience favorite. A story of love, family ties, and curses, the film deftly balances humor with edge-of-your-seat thrills. Entering the murky world of pirates will transport your and your family to faraway places lost to time and memory. The series of films has managed to win over audiences and critics alike.

The first in the series is THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL, which is a haunted ship rumored to be crewed by the undead. Throughout the film, Captain Jack Sparrow is bent on regaining control of the craft. Along the way, he is joined (reluctantly) by Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan, played by Keira Knightley. Love is in the air even as the cannonballs sail through the air. What follows is a hilarious, well-scripted story that leaves your wanting to sail way on the Black Pearl.

The sequel, DEAD MAN’S CHEST, finds Jack Sparrow enslaved by the horrific pirate king, Davey Jones. Meanwhile, on the Black Pearl, Elizabeth and Will are in the midst of saying their vows when they are arrested for aiding Jack’s escape. The race is soon on to see who can get a hold of the eerie compass in Sparrow’s possession. This compass leads the holder to his or her heart’s desire. For Lord Beckett that desire is to find Davy Jones’s locker, for Will it is to find his father and for Captain Norrington, it is to excel his career. As you can imagine, the competition is fierce and the laughs non-stop.

The last installment of the trilogy, AT WORLD’S END, takes you to the place where Jack Sparrow has been imprisoned. Captain Barbossa has returned to lead the dejected friends of Sparrow on a rescue mission to the end of the world. The zenith of myth and legend come together in outstanding fashion. This film ties up all the loose ends of family, betrayal, and lost love in the usual, breathtaking way.

The conception of the film is based on the popular theme-park ride at Disney World and though the characters are indeed fictional, some of them are based on actual people and places. The Isla De Muerto or Island of Death is an actual island off the coast of Ecuador. Around 1680, the Santa Cruz sunk just off the coast taking with it impressive sums of Spanish silver. The pirate Bartholomew Sharpe ran the ship onto the reef off Santa Clara Island, which was later nicknamed Isla De Muerto. Before he could steal the ship’s treasure, her crew set her alight and sunk the ship where it lay until it was recovered in 1997. It is easy to see the writers of this series knew their pirate lore. To get your copy of any or all of the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movies visit Disney Movie Club online.

Karaoke Music and Its History - Origins

by Isabel Swift

Karaoke has become a favourite amongst all age groups ,although the ones that may recognize the least about it are the seniors. Notwithstanding in a sense they know more about it then the younger ones. Years ago this golden age group, were in the habit of getting together at a party or a cabaret and singing all the old golden songs and songs they grew up with. The only thing genuinely missing was the player.

With the birth of karaoke came the birth of a lot of self confidence. Individuals that normally would be too shy to get up and sing before a crowd, seem to find it much simpler if a lot of other are going tosing too.

Karaoke was founded in Japan. Theres a narrative going around that a bar owner had engaged some entertainment that didnt show up. So out of despair he put on some tapes and asked in anyone preferred to sing. As the narrative goes, the night was a solid success and thus the birth of this extraordinary pass time. The citizens of Japan especially enjoy doing hit songs from the Beatles and Elvis. They have adjusted quite a liking for western music. This is a serious bonus for established exchange pupils. In addition it is a phenomenal aid for brushing up the English language.

In the very beginning it was rather a simple system. One would just put a tape on and someone would sing along with it. Then it went up onto videos with computer graphics. Eventually now the more sophisticated version is the karaoke system that consists of a mike and a TV screen to observe along the song with. Much like when we were children and would witness a song on tv and sing along by following the bouncing ball.

An worrying problem that had to be worked out in Japan was the noise ingredient. The homes are placed very close together in that state, so an individual singing at the top of his lungs could be quite a distraction for the neighbors, no matter how superb the singer was. To figure out that problem they devised the karaoke box. In fact the first packages were railway cars that manage to hold the music quite nicely.

Karaoke seems to be a true ice breaker. Where individuals may not commonly socialise with each other. it appears an individual getting up and singing clears the way to conversation. Oftentimes a person is congratulated on how well they done when they got off stage, and a conversation may start out.

Its is a premium tool to form confidence in kids. Most kids love to sing and will conduct themselves through songs. Some are rather shy nonetheless. Having the music to pursue looks to give them confidence, as though they are not alone when they are before the audience.

Of course the word Karaoke is a Japanese word. Kara signifies empty and oke stands for olestra which equals orchestra. It for sure is a remarkable way to spend a fun night full of entertainment.

Ben Sherman Makes Noise With Music and Youth

by Cynthia Acerra

Ben Sherman clothing line was born in 1963, but an independent young man. Originally born Alfred Benjamin Sugarman, the young man changed his name and started a new life and a new clothing line; hence Ben Sherman was truly born. The first location of the Ben Sherman line was in Brighton England, but eventually moved to Northern Ireland due to the increase of sales and the craze started by the Ben Sherman button-down shirt. This Ben Sherman shirt started the legacy which has continued strong since its inception, and is looking forward to evolving with the future.

The Mod fad of the 1960’s quickly took to the Ben Sherman shirt. It was new and innovative, and gave them the look that they were trying to achieve, smart, good-looking and a bit tough and cool. This was not the only group that found what they needed in the Ben Sherman shirt. The skinheads and the new rock-n-roll age found the look of the shirt to be exactly what was needed for their rebellious and trendy looks. The Ben Sherman shirt was the working man’s shirt, but with a flare of upper crust.

Ben Sherman had become one of the leading casual men’s clothing lines by the 1970’s, and most of this came from the subcultures and the rock-n-roll scene that was sweeping England and the United Kingdom. The punk scene of the UK gravitated to the Ben Sherman line because of the fact that it was associated with rebellion and that was what the youth in the punk movement were all about. It was also in the 1970’s that Ben Sherman expanded to include boy’s casual wear along side the Ben Sherman men’s casual wear. But for the Ben Sherman line the adventure in the world of fashion was just beginning.

The Ben Sherman clothing was quickly adopted by the Ska bands of the day that were taking over the music genre. The Ben Sherman was continuously preferred by those on the edge of society and the rebels. The punk scene dwindled down but the Ben Sherman clothing line was still the working man’s clothes. The roots of the Ben Sherman clothes remained intact as the evolutions of the fashion world continued.

Rock music was evolving again. The rebels of the generation were changing too. Ben Sherman made their mark again by using the indie bands and cutting edge bands to showcase their fashions. Bands such as Oasis proved that the classic Ben Sherman style was still in fashion and the trend continued.

Even today, Ben Sherman is evolving, and now includes women’s clothing as well as fragrances, underwear, sun glasses, and other such items. However, they have never lost their roots and their association with music. The Ben Sherman rebel image lives on and will grow as they expand into more lines and more Ben Sherman clothing. The one thing they will never stop doing though is the Ben Sherman Shirt that started it all.

Comcast Cable TV Promotion

by Rachel Smith

Getting an HDTV set can be a real positive step in your enjoyment of your home entertainment center. That’s because high definition TV sets have screens with wider aspect ratios than conventional TV sets and they often have narrower profiles than conventional TV sets (at least if they’re Plasma screens or LCD displays) for a more stylish look. However, there are some additional things that you need to do in order to get full enjoyment from your new HDTV set. Specifically, you need HDTV programming, an HDTV receiver to decode it, and a sound system that can take advantage of the Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound that’s part of the HDTV standard.

This may come as a surprise to you, but HDTV is actually a type of TV programming rather than a type of TV. Sure, you need an HDTV set to watch HDTV programming, but the HDTV set does not automatically make everything that it displays into HDTV. The difference is that conventional TV sets only display pictures with up to 480 horizontal lines of resolution, while an HDTV set can display up to 720 or 1080 horizontal lines of resolution- depending on the model. More lines of resolution translate into a more detailed picture, but those extra lines of resolution must be part of the TV programming in order to be displayed on the HDTV screen.

Fortunately, HDTV programming is relatively easy to obtain. It’s available through most cable TV companies in the form of channels that are dedicated to providing TV programming in the HDTV format. Some HDTV channels are simply high def versions of channels that are also available in conventional TV format, but some are also specialty channels. More HDTV channels are coming into existence all the time and the cable TV industry sees delivering them to subscribers as a vital part of maintaining its competitive advantage.

Cable TV companies can also provide the HD receiver necessary to view HDTV programming. Often it’s included at no extra expense with a subscription to a programming package that includes HDTV channels. These receivers also work with channels of normal TV and many have built in digital video recorders. These DVR’s are capable of recording dozens or hundreds of hours of both HDTV and normal TV, depending on the model. More importantly, they can be easily programmed ahead of time to record programs that the subscriber can’t be around to watch when they come on. This makes it a good device to have as part of a home entertainment center.

Unfortunately, cable TV companies won’t help you out with the sound system that complements HDTV programming, but such a sound system is relatively easy to install yourself. It involves placing three speakers in front of the audience, two behind the audience, and installing a sub woofer on the floor to provide bass output. Properly configured, this system will envelope the audience in the sound.

As you can see, HDTV places some more demands on viewers in terms of what’s needed to enjoy it, but once those requirements are taken care of, it delivers a lot more quality!

The Canon Camera Guide to Flash Terminology.

by Tim Harris

This flash terminology guide will give a brief overview of the various terms and idea used commonly with respect to the Canon EOS flash photography.

Flash units and Strobe

What is the main difference between a Flash and strobe is just whether you are using UK or US English. We refer a strobe as a flash unit in the US whereas the British uses the word as meaning anything which emit blinking lights. Other commonly used terms which cause confusion in flash photography are the words “Speedlight” and “Speedlite”. Speedlight is actually the brand name of Nikon series of flash units while Speedlite is the brand name of Canon series of flash units.

Guide Number

The maximum distance which a flash unit can reach with its flash pulse is known as the guide number. But if you are using automatic flash metering, this number is not important at all. You will only need to know this number when you are more inclined to do manual settings for your flash.

Exposure value (EV)

Used for determining the sensitivity of the Auto Focus or (AF) system or exposure metering for film types or a lens, the EV or Exposure Value is a combination of both Aperture settings and Shutter speed. The numbers 1/125 and F2 give an EV value of 9 which can also be obtained from F4 and 1/30.

Non Dedicated and Dedicated Flash Units

Dedicated flash units are flash units designed by the Camera manufacturers for their own range of cameras. These flash units can communicate with the camera system allowing for more precision photography. For example Canon manufactured the “speedlite” range of flash units for their EOS cameras. Non dedicated flash units are those flash units usually manufactured by third party manufactures. They normally work the same way on all brands of camera with little or no communications with the camera unit itself.

Shoe Mount

Usually located on the top mirror or prism housing, the shoe mount is a slide-in rectangular socket meant for attaching an external flash unit to the camera. They are also known as “Hot Shoe Mount” as they possess an electrical circuit which will initiate the flash unit once it is attached to the camera. Canon EOS cameras have an additional four electrical points in the shoe mount which transmit data from the flash trigger.

Redeye Effect

When the light from a flash unit is reflected back into the camera off the walls of the retina, this will produce the Redeye effect which we always see in pictures taken in low ambient light conditions. This due to the fact that the low ambient light condition causes the pupils of the eyes to dilate bigger and the color red is because the retina walls are lined with red blood vessels.

Redeye Reduction

To circumvent around the problem of redeye effect, there are several ways to go about this. One effective way is to move the flash away from the lens or reflect the flash light off the walls onto the subject instead of directly illuminating the subject. Another way is to get the subject to view a bright light just before taking the picture of the subject. This causes the pupils of the eyes to dilate smaller and therefore decreasing the reflective effect of the retina.
