Prior to using a Generic Non dedicated flash on the Canon EOS camera, you have to check the trigger voltage of the Flash. The Canon lines of Speedlite flashes do not use more than 6 volts with their trigger circuits. The Canon EOS 1, A2/A2E, 10s, 630, Elan, RT and Rebel operate with 6 volts as the maximum voltage going through their triggering circuits. Therefore you have to make sure that the generic flashes also adhere with this limitation.

Those triggers which use more than 6 volts can damage the electrical circuitry of the camera. The connecting wires, the X-Sync contact point and the shutters are most prone to damages. The damage might not be obvious but will happen gradually over time. Beside from the likelihood of circuitry damages, electro magnetic noises generated by the high voltages will cause interference with the Camera operation. The metering system, aperture settings and shutter speed are just some of the possible effects of electro-magnetic noise on the circuit of the camera. Which function will be affected will depend ultimately on the circuits which is interfered with by the electromagnetic noise.

Testing the voltages of the flash triggering circuit is a simple task. Just use a voltmeter which is available at any Radio Shack stores. Connect the positive lead to the positive point of Sync Cord. The Negative lead should be connected to the ground of the Sync cord. With shoe mounted flash, just connect the positive lead to the center point of the mount. The negative lead has to be connected to the grounding point of the camera located at the side of the lock nut. Voltmeters have different setting which you can use. If you are unaware of the voltage of the Flash unit, just use the highest setting on the voltmeter than work your way downwards.

You can actually fire a Studio Flash unit safely without a Sync cord. To do so, just use a Speedlite 420EZ or 430EZ at 1/32 power setting under manual flash mode. Make sure the optical slave trigger is turned on before firing. What you are actually doing is utilizing the bounce features of the Speedlite 420EZ or 430EZ to divert the flash light to the optical slave trigger. On the other hand, you can use slave triggers which are linked by radio signals to fire the Studio flash. These radio transmitters and receivers, which are connected to the Camera’s PC contact and the Flash power packs, are manufactured by companies like Lindahl and Quantum Instruments.

If the EOS camera is not firing the Studio flash, check the following:

1. Ensure that the PC socket adapter does not come with metal shoes. Metal shoes will cause a “short” in the triggering circuit. To avoid this problem, use a Canon PC socket adapter made from plastic.

2. The flash units polarities might be reversed. This can occur because of a diode which is connected to the camera X-Sync point to protect the Camera internal flash unit. To get by this problem, reverse the polarities of the Sync cord.

3. If the two troubleshooting tips do not work, just use the method described above on how to fire a studio flash safely.

Mexican Train Dominos is a great game that we’ve recently been introduced to, but we found the rules in the game we bought to be a little confusing.

The dominoes rules we learned work better for our family because it allows the little ones to play Mexican Train.

The Mexican Train Dominos start at double 12′s. You can also purchase these dominos with actual numbers on them to replace the dots. This might work better if you have a young counter as you will see later on, they will need to be able to count the dots in their remaining tiles. To start – each person takes a set number of tiles (determined by the number of players) and the person who has the highest set of doubles starting with 12 begins. The next round starts with the next lower doubles. The play goes clockwise with each person starting their leg – looks like a spider – with the same number as the double or picking one tile which they can play if it is a playable. From there you play on your leg each turn with a couple of exceptions.

1st – You can play on another person’s leg if after they have picked, they cannot. You know it is open to play on because they must place a plastic train – which comes in the set – on their leg when they can’t play. Then when they are able to play on their leg again, they can remove the train. We like to use M&Ms as the train marker, then eat them when you get to remove it!

2nd – Start a Mexican Train. If you have a another tile that matches the double played to start the game, you can start another leg, that is independent of the main body and legs. Then any player can play on the train too. There is only one Mexican Train started per round.

A few nuances – if you play a doubles tile during the round (like 3′s), the doubles tile must be “satisfied” before regular play can continue. How this is accomplished is that either the person who plays the doubles tile must play another tile with the same number or it goes around the table for each person’s turn until someone can satisfy it. You must draw if you can’t play. You can however play the drawn tile if it matches. This can mess up the best laid plans! Also, it is not uncommon for someone to get stuck for the whole round without getting their leg started. The upside here is if you play rounds down to double 1′s, this evens out.

The object of each round is to be the first to get rid of all your tiles. All other players add the total dots (or numbers) on the tiles they have left. You use this number for their score. Adding the score for each round, the winner is the person at the end who has the lowest points.

That is a fun and easy way to play Mexican Train Dominoes. The dominos rules can be followed by pretty much anyone. This fun family game makes for a great Christmas gift too!

A successful credit dispute letter can remove negative credit items from your credit report and increase your overall credit score quickly. In fact, when you talk to a credit counselor about boosting your credit scores, often the first thing he’ll do is look over your report for things he can write a dispute letter about and get removed. This is the fastest, easiest, and most effective legal way to raise your credit score.

Writing a successful credit dispute letter is a matter of knowing what to say, how to say it, and who to send it to. It’s easy and you don’t need a credit professional to do it for you. A better credit score means big savings in interest rates, monthly payments, and better offers of credit from lenders. So it’s important that you do everything you can to boost your credit score and credit dispute letters are the fastest way to do that.

First of all, the generic dispute letters offered on many websites (for a fee) are not usually effective. That is because the people at the credit bureaus see these so often that they consider them to be no better than the spam you delete from your email. They usually do not respond well to these generic letters.

What you need is a custom-written document that clearly states your case in as few words as possible, gives all the pertinent details about your case, and still retains a “human” quality to it. The letter you’re writing is going to the credit bureau, not the creditor, so commenting on the company’s falsehoods or wrongdoings is not at issue here (unless it helps to cite specific breaches of contract or the law). Any documentation that backs up your claims should also be cited and included (copies, of course, never send originals).

One more caveat to remember: don’t quote the law, the person reading your letter is familiar with the law and will know if the accused creditor has broken it or not. This is important because when you quote the law, you give a tone of “talking down” to the person reading. You don’t want that, you want them to be on your side, so don’t make them feel belittled. Instead, mention the law or paraphrase important bits, but do not include a whole quotation in your letter (or even a partial, just mention it).

Now that you know what is entailed in a successful credit dispute letter, let’s look at how it should be written. Write the letter in business format (Their address/contact info at top, the date, a salutation like “Dear Sir,” or “To so-and-so” and your letter written in block paragraph form (spaces between paragraphs, no indents). At the bottom, tab over twice, input “Sincerely,” and hit enter at least twice to create a space. Then under that (two more tabs), put your name. Then, aligned left, put your name again, address, telephone, and other contact information. Sign the letter in the empty space between the “Sincerely,” and your typed name.

The tone of the letter itself should be personal: talk about you and them as if you were personal friends. Try not to sound angry, but sounding somewhat upset is OK if it helps your cause. Use words like “I” and “we” and “you” and “they” often. This personal writing is more likely to appeal to the reader on a personal level and makes you into a real, live, human being rather than just a bunch of words on paper.

Finally, send the letter with some kind of guaranteed postage where you get a notification of delivery, such as delivery confirmation, tracking information, or a return signature card. This is your legal proof that the letter was sent and could be useful later. You might as well learn how to consolidate three dispute letters if you sent more than one. It’s also how you prove that they did or did not respond in a timely manner, as there are specific state and federal laws regarding how much time they are allowed to take to answer your dispute. If they go over that time, you may have the right to have the dispute declared in your favor and removed from your credit report or noted in your credit cards statements.

All in all, you can probably see why those generic letters offered on those websites probably won’t work. Obviously there are a lot of things they can’t cover that you can if you personalize your credit dispute letter. So sit down and write it and get your credit restored!
