Discount Hotels – So You Spend More On Fun And Less On Rent.
The family vacation. Never mind the “are we there yet?” which sometimes goes along with that experience. These vacations are still among the most wonderful of experiences. The biggest problem always seems to find ways to make a great sounding vacation affordable. A major expense is lodging, so in planning your trip you might start by looking for discount hotels. Bear in mind that discount doesn’t have to mean low-class. You are spending less but still have a very nice place to stay.
We are taught the value of up front planning and that concept is extremely valuable when it comes to planning your vacation. Thanks to the Internet it is really quite painless to find places to go and stay and things to do. There’s a wealth of information available to you, including reviews done by others, and perhaps best of all, comparison shopping is no longer the hassle it once was. Finding a discount hotel which offers quality service has never been easier. Discount hotels can be clean, comfortable, in a nice part of town and with good food service. What you’ll be missing is likely just a few luxury items.
Travel is another major expense besides food and lodging. If you are traveling by air which is no doubt the case if you are going coast-to-coast or to a foreign destination it really pays dividends to look for tickets well ahead of time, several months even. You might even consider adjusting the dates of your trip if possible to coincide with seasonal adjustments in airline ticket prices. You can also be on the lookout for special travel packages or use travel points and frequent flyer miles to your advantage. Like hotels, airlines like to operate at near full capacity and offer great deals at times in order to sell seats.
Airline travel is normally the best way to get to a vacation destination that is some distance away, especially of course when traveling over water is involved. However for shorter distances don’t forget the automobile, gas prices notwithstanding. Driving allows you to really see the sights and take a few unplanned side trips along the way. You can even camp out one or more days, enjoying the outdoors and saving money in the process.
If you are going to another country, inform yourself on their laws, and make copies of your passport identification page. Because the last thing you want is loosing your passport and be stranded in an unknown country. Leave contact information with friends and family and carry identification at all times. And choose your travel agents carefully, because they are the ones who will be in-charge of your safety.
Check out the major tourist attractions well ahead of time. It’s no fun wandering the streets of a foreign city not knowing exactly where you are of what to look for that might be of interest. Talking to people who have been where you’re going is very helpful. They can give you a better idea of what’s worth seeing and what isn’t. You want to make the most of every day and return home perhaps a little exhausted but happy!
And the basic rule for all trips, plan all activities based on the interests of all your family members. The discount hotels, cheap tickets and the affordable priceline are all secondary. Your family’s enjoyment always comes first. All these compromises in the budget should not hinder in the fun quotient.
Make every effort to make each family vacation one of those “once in a lifetime” events, one you and your spouse enjoy and one that your kids will someday be talking (positive !) to their kids about. Once the planning is done and the vacation begins, put your heart into it.
