I got an email from a friend the other day asking if I had the movie “GoodFellas” on DVD that he could borrow. I emailed him back the following – “Quit bugging me – just go download it!”

While I was more polite about it that that, I think he was a little taken aback at first!

What I was trying to convey to her was that she didn’t need to go track down the DVD. If you want to watch a movie, all you really need is an internet connection.

Otherwise known as the Evaluative Through the Lens System, the E-TTL system was introduced in 1995 with the debut of the Canon Elan II/50 Camera. Even if the metering process is still done through the lens of the Camera, the E-TTL system is a more advanced system and operates on dissimilar system to that of the TTL system. In addition, the E-TTL system is not backward compatible. The E-TTL system functions by firing a pre-flash, whose brightness is known, from the flash unit to ascertain the exact level of flash exposure. This is achieved by measuring the pre-flash light which is reflected off from the scene. The camera then calculate the correct flash pulse to get a mid tone level on the subject.

As mentioned earlier, the E=TTL system is more advance than that of the TTL or A-TTL system because of its algorithms. With better algorithm programming, the system is fill flash daylight pictures more efficiently. Apart from this, the E-TTL system is coupled to the auto focus point and this result in better and finer grained pictures than even those multi points TTL flash systems. Currently all late modeled Canon EOS film cameras support the E-TTL system. The digital range of camera adopted the E-TTL system after the Canon D30 was introduced. How the order of operation of the E-TTL system is as listed below:

When the shutter button is depressed halfway, current ambient light level are metered in the normal way. Aperture and shutter speed are set by the camera or by the user depending on the mode of operation selected. Once the shutter button is depressed down all the way, the flash unit fires a pre-flash from the main flash unit. The reflected light is then calculated by the metering system to determine the correct power output for the actual flash burst to achieve the correct exposure level.

Auto filled reduction is applied if the photo taking operations occurs under bright lighting conditions. With the auto filled reduction process, flashlight output can be reduced by 0.5 to 2 stops. The mirror then flips up and while at the same time the shutter opens exposing the film or sensor element if it is a digital camera. The shutter then remains open during the entire time of the shutter speed. After this, the shutter will close and the mirror will down back to its original position. If the camera has a LED light confirming the flash exposure, then it will light up if the metering process is successful.

The problem with the E-TTL system is that, the pre-flash will result in those who blink quickly to be snapped while in mid blink resulting in “droopy eyes” looks. The situation gets more problematic when you use a slow shutter speed and the second curtain sync together. To overcome this problem, just wait a short while before firing off the main flash burst. Remember to forewarn the subjects as they might think the actual photo has been taken after you fired the pre-flash.

If you would like to learn how to play the lead guitar then you need to know it takes more than just pure talent, you also need to know the right techniques and theory so that you can play it well. There are lots of people who currently play the lead guitar and would like to play it better than they already do, but for some this is much easier said than done. In this article we offer several tips that could help to improve your playing lead guitar.

Tip 1 – Although you may think that learning the basics of playing a lead guitar isn’t important because it is boring, then think again. Certainly if you aren’t willing to spend time learning even the basics when playing lead guitar it can prove very difficult indeed.

Tip 2 – Okay so the great lead guitarist will stand up and jump around the stage when playing, but this is not the best way to learn. It is much easier if you actually sit down in a comfortable chair when carrying out your lessons or when you practice. If you are relaxed you will find it much easier to retain information and you won’t tire so quickly when you need to practice for some time.

Tip 3 – You need to make sure that you discipline yourself to carry out practice when you should. Therefore if you decide that each day you are going to spend 45 minutes practicing then make sure that you keep to this and don’t slope off 10 or 20 minutes before you should.

Tip 4 – Even though economy picking is easier to improve your lead guitar skills you need to learn alternate picking as well. If you cannot use this technique then playing more complex techniques or faster pieces will prove more difficult for you. It is through alternate picking that you learn how to move more effectively between the up and down strokes on the guitar. Although learning this technique may take time you will be able to play them automatically and picking the strings becomes a lot quicker.

Tip 5 – You need to spend plenty of time on learning the various lead guitar playing techniques. Which means practicing how to play slides, bends, pull offs, hammer ons, vibratos and other techniques used by lead guitarists today. If you can learn and master these techniques not only will your playing become more colorful but more expressive as well.

Tip 6 – To play certain lead guitar solos you will need to learn how to repeatedly play scales. The types of scales that are most commonly used by guitarists today to help them with their playing and which they learn are the Pentatonic and E Blues scales. If you can master these scales then you will find that they make a good framework for your playing and can help you to then start creating your own music.

Tip 7 – This last tip when it comes to playing lead guitar is the most important of them all. It is the one where you get told that practice makes perfect. The more time you dedicate to practicing a piece the more you will find that you remember it and so it then becomes easier to play. When you first start off learning a new piece for the lead guitar do so very slowly and then gradually build up the tempo at which it should be played using a metronome.

The art of making pottery is a very complicated process and takes years of practice to master. There are many different steps required to create a fine art piece. First, you need to select an appropriate clay to use.

There are different types including terracotta and other low fire clays, stoneware, white stoneware, and porcelain. Each clay gives different properties to the finished piece and affects how the glaze looks. Stoneware is most often used for more earthy colored glazes or in wood kilns. Porcelain allows glazes to have more vibrant colors.

Each clay also is different to work with. Some are easier to form than others and some feel smoother. Porcelain is the smoothest clay, but it is also more difficult to throw with on the potters wheel as it can slump and absorb to much water if you are not experienced with it.

It can be fun experimenting with different clays to find one that works best for your needs. Your final firing temperature is also a factor. Porcelain is typically fired to 2350 degrees Fahrenheit, and low fire clays are fired to about 1900 degrees.

The next step is deciding what method to use to create your pieces, wheel throwing or hand building. Both require a great deal of practice and it is not as easy as it looks. While a nice vase or mug looks simple, it is far from that. Stay tuned for further articles about the ceramic process.
