Cable TV has had a less than stellar reputation in the past, but there are some things that Comcast is doing (and has done) that make cable TV worth looking into again. The most basic thing that Comcast has done was to embrace digital TV technology. This may seem pretty elementary, but it actually has some pretty far reaching implications. For example, using digital TV to transmit TV programming has the benefit of allowing each video stream to be compressed so that it takes up less bandwidth. When each channel takes up less bandwidth, a cable TV company like Comcast can fit more channels over the existing cable infrastructure without having to replace it or add more cables. This compression technology makes Comcast able to provide over three hundred channels, making it at least as good as any satellite TV service.

Another thing that digital TV allows Comcast to do is to provide a better picture. Any time that TV is transmitted it picks up a certain amount of interference. Even if it happens to be transmitted over buried cables, it still picks up the interference of cosmic rays or something. This inevitable interference translates into a fuzzy picture for any video that’s been transmitted more than a couple of hundred feet over a cable.

The good thing about digital TV is that a digital cable receiver can tell the difference between interference and the real signal, making it easy to clean all of that picture ruining crud out of the signal. The same thing works for sound too.

Many Canon EOS camera users often end up confused when they try to use the available modes on the camera without understanding how they function. The reason is that the AV (aperture Priority) mode, TV (Shutter Priority) mode, P (Program) mode and M (Manual) mode handle the metering operation differently. This is especially obvious when you are photographing under condition of low ambient light conditions. Here in this guide, we will give you a breakdown of how the various modes function so that you will know how they work under differing conditions. The FP mode is also assumed not to be turn on in this guide.

The P (Program) Mode

Under the P mode, when the ambient light is low, the camera will be set to a high shutter speed to enable you to use the camera without a tripod stand. This is to enable you to avoid “motion blur” even though you are holding the camera with your hand. The P mode will work when the ambient light is low or high. When the ambient light is high, the camera makes the assumption that you will flash fill the foreground. Thus the flash will be low powered. If the ambient light is low, the camera will under the P mode will set the flash and the shutter speed appropriately to give the best possible result. Having said so, pictures taken under this condition will normally have a dark background.

The TV (Shutter Priority) Mode

With the camera in TV mode, the shutter speed will be adjusted by you instead. The camera will only determine the appropriate aperture priority to accommodate the shutter speed that you have chosen to ensure that the exposure level is right. The duration of the Flash pulse will also be determined by the flash metering system. Under the TV mode, the Camera will also be operating the flash in flash fill mode. The EOS system will warn you if the background is too dark. This warning will be indicated by a blinking maximum aperture value in the camera viewfinder. When this is the case, you have to slow down the shutter speed and use a tripod to prop up the camera in order to avoid motion blur.

AV (Aperture Priority) Mode

With this mode, you can fix the depth of field (DOF) by adjusting the lens aperture. The camera will determine the correct shutter speed for exposing the background to the correct level. The metering system will decide also how long the flash pulse should be. You have to note that if the shutter speed is low, you will need a tripod stand to prop up the camera instead of using your hands to hold the camera. This is because at low shutter speed, your pictures will end up having motion blur. Just like the TV mode, the camera operates fill flash mode. There are several cameras which have the exception to this mode. The canon EOS10/10s and the Canon Elan II/ EOS 50 models has a unique function will lets you lock the X-Sync speed to the Shutter Speed.

Manual (M) Exposure Mode

With the M mode, you will choose both the aperture and shutter speed of the camera. You will also decide the exposure level of the camera. With the flash metering system, the camera will determine the correct flash pulse to illuminate the foreground.
