The Importance of Safety in Airsoft

by Alexander Malroy

Airsoft guns are safe with caution. Its spherical non-metallic pellets discharged from a compressed air gun that is manual spring-loaded, gas powered or electronically powered. However, safety measures for such exercise are imperative just like any responsibility that is involved between two opposing teams or individuals.

Among the basic rules for using an air gun are using protective gear to protect the eye and to keep the finger off the trigger when not ready to fire. Users are also advised never to keep the gun pointed at the non players or at animals. Also, substandard air soft AEG should never be used.

The air soft guns that are mostly used are generally powered by manual cocking spring or by gas. Electric motor or battery is also sometimes used. These kinds of air soft guns are safe to use. However when these are used with power that is higher than what has been recommended, it might not be safe for the player.

Airsoft games are best played outdoors, and since it’s a military simulation, natural surroundings are the best venue for this exercise. However, there are factors that are beyond the control of every organizer of this game such as animals that often interfere during the game that may pose an impending danger to every player.

Airsoft players may also suffer injuries from their location-terrains, forest, woodlands or jungles. These areas feature slippery surfaces, heights, trips, steep slopes, snags, falls or sharpened objects that may cause injuries among the players in the height of the game.

There may also be other dangers such as poisonous elements found in plants. Injuries such as broken bones, sprains, cuts or other types of wounds from the game may also happen along with the concern for using protective measures is necessary and using protective gear such as neck and head guards and other protective body armor is necessary. Airsoft gaming standards do not only protect the players, bystanders and non-players. It should also be protected as well in the height of the game.

Airsoft gaming standards does not only protect players, bystanders and non-players should be protected as well in the height of the game. Observers are required always to keep their facemask on especially during the game. This standard rules and safety requirement are strictly enforced by the Marshalls of the game to make sure that no injuries occur during gameplay.

Some groups have adopted the policy of immediately stopping the game when someone finds out that there is somebody in the game who is not protected and is within the playing area. This heightened regard for safety makes the game elevated in a professional standard. Players who encounter unprotected individual must shout and signal to the other players “cease-fire, blind-man” or “non-combatant” to warn others of the situation. Such case would prevent the impending damage it may cause to the unprotected player.

Airsoft Safety is Important

Airsoft guns are safe with caution. Its spherical non-metallic pellets discharged from a compressed air gun that is manual spring-loaded, gas powered or electronically powered. However, safety measures for such exercise are imperative just like any responsibility that is involved between two opposing teams or individuals.

Wearing protective eyewear is ideal to protect the face and the eyes from serious injury. Players are notified not to point their guns at other players when they’re not in their protective gear. Players should also protect their body when protecting their face and eyes because it’s not just the face that’s open to injury. Most airsoft guns that are on the market are powered by gas or a manual powered mechanism and sometimes powered by electric motor or battery.

The air soft guns that are mostly used are generally powered by manual cocking spring or by gas. Electric motor or battery is also sometimes used. These kinds of air soft guns are safe to use. However when these are used with power that is higher than what has been recommended, it might not be safe for the player.

It is important that the players wear proper clothing to keep themselves safe while using the air guns. Not wearing protective gear can hurt the skin and might lead to bleeding. Also, the pellets from the air soft guns can cause damage to the eye when fired from a close range. It is therefore important that protective eye gear should be used.

Airsoft players may also suffer injuries from their location-terrains, forest, woodlands or jungles. These areas feature slippery surfaces, heights, trips, steep slopes, snags, falls or sharpened objects that may cause injuries among the players in the height of the game.

They may be also in danger from poisonous substances found in the plants or even on the animal droppings. Damage such as broken bones, sprain, cuts or wound from the activity may also happen, thus, the need for precautionary measure is imperative and using protective gear such as neck and head armor and other military outfit is necessary.

Players who encounter individuals not wearing their safety gear must signal to the referee and signal to the other players to “cease-fire, blind-man” or “non-combatant”. This not only protects the unprotected player, but it also keeps the lines of communication open among players when a game is in play to lower the risk for injuries and other problems.

The Other Duck: Daisy Duck

by Steve Collins

Daisy Duck, as it happens, was created around 1920. Daisy’s brother married Donald’s twin sister, Della Thelma Duck, and together, they became the parents of Huey, Dewey, and Louie, which is why the triplets call her “Aunt Daisy”. In the early days, she wore a red dress and had a bow in her hair. Daisy Duck became Donald Duck’s girlfriend in 1940, after his regrettable affair with Donna Duck in 1937. Daisy became Donald’s new neighbor and potential love interest. She was seemingly soft spoken, but had a fiery temper and Donald often found himself at the receiving end of it. Donna returns from time to time, to ignite the jealousy between Daisy and Donald.

Donald himself had a tremendous temper, as was evident by his “Donald Tames His Temper” (1946), wherein Daisy demands he learns anger management as a New Year’s Resolution. She was often seen wearing a pink dress and indigo bow. As their relationship evolved, Donald tried to become whatever type of male Daisy wanted. Donald tries to be a door-to-door salesman, but his customers can’t understand him. Daisy beseeches him to have faith, and after he gets some voice pills, he feels confident to ask her to marry him. But he loses the pills and a cow accidentally takes them, and his old voice returns and he is never able to work up the courage to propose to Daisy.

When his cousin Gladstone Gander starts flirting with Daisy, she tries to reason with Gladstone and Donald. She ends up dating both of them while they both try to gain her affection by embarrassing each other. For several years it often seems that Gladstone has the upper hand, but in a contest where the man who hunts the most turkeys gets to have dinner with Daisy, who has won a beauty contest. When Daisy becomes incapacitated Donald is the one left nursing her, while Gladstone who won the contest gets stuck having dinner with the ugly runner-up.

In the 1950′s, the fashionable Daisy wears a lot of wigs and outfits, short, curly hair with a bow that’s much smaller than before. She was given a leading role in “Daisy Duck’s Diary” a series that continues today in Italy. In the 1970′s, her appearance started changing, a yellow dress and green bow, a waitress-look-alike outfit, with a blue bow and long ponytail. She now wears her purple dress and bow, yellow earrings and a short ponytail, the look familiar to theme park visitors. In 1996, the television series Quack Pack turned her into a career woman television reporter that sports a more becoming wardrobe and hairstyle.

Through the years, Daisy has proven herself to be a star with drawing power, and Donald’s love interest for life. Disney Movie Club has the movies you will fall in love with featuring all the beloved Disney characters, including Donald’s girlfriend, Daisy Duck.

How do Reality Television Shows Affect Children?

by Amy Nutt

There has been a lot of discussion lately on the relative merits of reality television when it comes to different people in society. There are a number of people that will argue that reality television is not good for children and there are many reasons that are forwarded to prove that point. Most of these reasons do not seem to be well thought out or logical however and to prove that point it is definitely possible to play Devil?s advocate and argue the reverse point. Namely, the point that reality television shows can affect children in a positive sense is one that is definitely worth considering and it is worth considering for the reasons that are given below.

Education

Reality television shows can often be an education, both for the people that participate in them and for the people that watch them. Of course, in most cases reality television shows are not really open to children and this means that children are left to watch the shows on television. These shows will show how people can react when put in high stress situations and the shows themselves can also show exactly how people can react when they end up scheming and plotting against other people in order to get to the top and be the last person standing.

People may scoff and put on a shocked demeanor when they come across these types of events in a reality television show, but only the most na?ve person would really think that none of these things spill out into real life. Reality television is given the name reality specifically because of the fact that a lot of these things go on in real life too in areas like schools, workplaces and offices. Watching the shows now will expose children to this type of behavior in a relatively controlled environment that will not directly affect them and therefore will give them a better chance of noticing and preventing such behavior when it starts getting directed against them later on in life.

Alternatives

What is available on television nowadays for children to watch? For children that are of a very young age there are of course cartoons and for children that are older there are the normal adult sitcoms and other shows that they can watch. But for children in the middle there really isn?t that much else on television for them to watch. Movies have become very violent and laden with sex and the same can really be said for many of the television shows that you can see today as well. Cartoons do not have the intellectual content necessary to hold the attention of most middle-age kids and therefore one could argue that there is a big void in their lives on this particular issue.

Then consider reality television. Since there are humans interacting with other humans in a real way of speaking, there is going to be a minimum amount of violence in most cases and in shows where there has been real violence a lot of it has been edited out. The same can be true of sex and if the show is on a cable network this is definitely going to be true in terms of the editing. So reality television is a relatively clean show when compared to many of the other things your kids could be watching and since kids want to watch television, reality television in many cases is going to be your best choice to give them something positive and educational to watch. These are both very powerful reasons to consider reality television as having a positive effect on your child.

The Story Of The American Flyer Model Train Series

by Mike Martin

The American Flyer is probably the most famous of all model train series. They did achieve their peaks around the 40′s and another peak in the 60′s, they are around longer than that. Their popularity is also very popular today too and they are, I feel they are going to be hanging around another 100 years!

A toy maker in Chicago called William Hafner, in the very early 20th century built a model train developed on a clockwork motor, actually for the use in toy cars. By about 1905 however he made up his mind to put them into use in model trains too. Luckily he did, the model cars sold no where near as well as the trains.

William Hafner share the exact same name as his best friend, William Coleman approached a small manufacturer of hardware, Edmonds-Metzel. They used this organization to start producing trains in 1907.

They were first marketed under the name of Edmond Metzel trains, but because they were selling so fast and so well they required a entirely new name and they came up with the name of the American Flyer. This occur around 1910. Even the name of the hardware company they were using had also changed it’s name to incorporate the American Flyer name in it.

They were really famous and there are numerous reasons for it. They were quite cheaper then some other popular makes of model trains at the time and because they were also quite a bit more practical then more budget style model trains of the time.

Mr William Hafner left the organisation around 1913. He used the cash he had already made and built his own organisation. Colemans American Flyer Trains. It did well for quite some time around the first world war. There were no competition because of the war. In 1938 right before the break out of the second world war, the founders son with the same name, took over the business after his father died in 1918 sold the American Flyer to a firm called A C Gilbert Company. Gilbert already had experience in producing toys, but he has no idea anything about trains.

At the same time he also moved the enterprise from Chicago where it was made to New Haven in Connecticut where he lived. He also began to drastically re design the American Flyer and turned it into an S-scale model train in 1939. This scale is a modification of the popular O scale or model which was then the leader on the market.

The S-scale was much smaller then the O-scale and this made it more popular with enthusiasts as it needed less room to setup a proper track. The scale is 1:64, considerably smaller then the O-scale yet still very detailed and accurate.

He also made some other change in 1946 that amended the realisticness of the American flyer more so. Model trains, electric model trains at that time had been run on 3 rail tracks. Not practical. He adjusted it so they ran on 2 rail tracks, much like their huge counterparts. These tracks had 7/8th inches ‘tween each rail. This made the trains function better as well.

However, television was starting to take hold at this time too. This distracted many from their hobbies they would commonly spend their spare time on. Likewise at this time, discount chain shops came into play, discounting train sets that enterprises like A C Gilbert could not compete with. in 1962, Gilbert traded the American Flyer to Wrather Group. This enterprise made toys as well, but most of the time on a large scale and tended to make poor quality as well. Sales of course fell through the floor and in 1967 the firm went bankrupt.

A better toy train maker and the market leader at time, Lionel Corporation bought the American Flyer. This enterprise itself was having difficulty with finances too and they also went bankrupt in 1969, so they sold off the rights to the American Flyer to some other manufacturer, General Mills.

This organisation, General Mills, started trading numerous of the designs of the original designed Gilbert American Flyer, it how ever sell everything it purchased from at that time Lionel Corporation to Kenner, who then in turn sold the enterprise to a man named Richard Kughn. This happened in 1985.

Mr Richard Kughn had good success with the corporation and design for 11 years, but he sold out in 1996 to a corporation called Wellspring Partners, who then took on the original name of Lionel and named themselves Lionel LLC, which still functions today.

They sell the S-scale American Flyer still. They were initially concentrating on selling several others scale models, but in 2002 they begin selling more and more of the American Flyer.

The American Flyer now is more then 100 years old and has gone through many extraordinary hands. This model train will not be going anywhere as it’s popularity is still strong.

Canon Digital Camera Basic Guide: Pixels

by Tim Harris

The purchase of a new Canon Camera can at times be trying as there are many technical terms which are foreign to a layperson. For a person to be able to make an informed choice, they will need to learn some of the terms that are commonly used. Terms like Pixels, DPI, PPI and white balance all are used to describe some of the qualities of a camera. This guide will seek to explain to you what a pixel is all about and how this term is used for rating a camera quality.

The word pixel actually stands for the term PICTURE ELEMENT. All digital pictures taken by the Canon Digital camera are composed of pixels. They are, in reality, tiny squares with different colors mosaic together like a giant jigsaw puzzle to form a digital image. Although at a glance, this is not evident until you enlarge the digital image significantly. Only then will you be able to see the little squares of different colors and hues. The colors and hue of each pixel is represented by 3 numbers, one number for the red, green and blue color channel. These numbers each, ranges from 0 to 255. Taken all together, there are 16 million possible color combinations that can be represented by these 3 numbers.

The use of pixel count is not only confined to digital imaging. All camera manufacturers nowadays also categorized their camera quality also according to the pixel count their camera can take. Depending on the type and model of the camera in question, most canon digital camera can take between 5 to 10 megapixels pictures. A megapixel is equivalent to a million pixels. What this mean is that a 5 megapixel camera can take an image with 5 million pixels in it. In terms of image printing quality, the more pixels a digital image has, the sharper the printed version of the image is.

You need also to consider whether when talking about pixels counts that you are referring to “Total Pixels” count or “Effective Pixels” count. Total Pixel count refers to the fact that all pixels that we see in a digital image are counted. Because in the final digital image, the pixels at the edge of an image are not used. As such the actual pixel count will be less. Effective Pixel count refers to the count only after all these edge pixels have been discounted.

Depending on the size of the pictures that you wanted to print, a 5 megapixels Canon camera, makes very good quality 5″ X 7″ printouts and decent 8″ X 10″ printouts. But if you are going to make 8″ X 10″ printouts most of the time, then a 8 megapixels or 10 megapixels Canon camera will be more ideal choice to purchase.

No Matter Your Age, the EyeClops Night Vision Goggles Are Great

by Zachary Preston

Basically, Jakks EyeClops Night Vision Goggles let you see in total darkness, for 90% less cost than traditional night vision goggles. Typically infrared night vision goggles cost $500 and up, and here you have Jakks offering night vision goggles for $80. At first, I couldn’t believe that they would work. Anyway, I ended up buying them for my 10 year old, Aiden. He is having a blast playing with them, and so am I.

Eye Clops Night Vision Goggles are made of kid-friendly materials (soft rubber) and the latest infrared, night-seeing technology that allows them to explore their world in the dark. These extremely affordable ($80) night vision goggles use an infrared light to illuminate the darkness, and they even contain a microscope that lets kids see another kind of invisible world, the microsopic world.

For one thing, it’s kind of weird that your vision comes from the center eyepiece mounted on your forehead like a third eye. What I mean to say is that normally you see things through your eyes, but the eyeclops “sees” through it’s 3rd eye that’s mounted about 4 inches up and to the left of your right eye. This is a bit disorienting when you first use the device, but my son got used to it pretty quickly.

Another thing is that the field of vision is much smaller than your normal, 180 degree field of vision, but I learned that that’s just one of the limitations of night vision itself, no matter what device you’re using.

My kids decided one night to put on their night vision goggles and scare us in the bed after we thought they had gone to sleep. I guess they got me back for messing with them and using their toy when it’s really theirs.

We haven’t had any trouble with the goggles, but because the depth perception is a bit difficult when they’re being used, I made sure to supervise my kids when they wanted to wear them outside.

On these goggles, there’s 2 night vision modes – one is 100% stealth (no one can see you) and the other one gives you better night vision but throws off a faint infrared light from the goggles themselves, so you’re not 100% invisible.

If you’re thinking about a cool toy for Christmas 2008, then Jakks EyeClops Night Vision Goggles are for you. At the very least, you’ll have fun scaring your kids in the dark or vice versa. Hey, you can even check on them when they’re sleeping without disturbing them by turning on the light.

All in all, I’m very pleased with Jakks Eyeclops Night Vision Infrared Stealth Goggles, and I think they’ll make a fantastic and fun gift for your kids for Christmas 2008. Check them out, and be confident that your kids will love them and they’ll learn a lot by having them.

Some Things To Look For In Bundled Service Packages

by Dawn Amerson

Bundled home telecommunications services are really popular these days, and there are a number of reasons for this. The most obvious reason is that when companies bundle various telecommunications packages together, they tend to offer discounts that save consumers money. It makes sense for these companies to offer discounts because they’re sure to make more money by providing their customers two or three services than providing them with just one, so it’s really a way of saying thanks for the extra business. Of course, consumers also like bundled services because they’re more convenient in the sense that bundling allows consumers to pay for all of their home telecommunications services through just one bill. This means having one bill to remember to pay every month instead of three and one check to write every month instead of three separate ones.

Having said that, some telecom service bundles are better than others and there are a number of things to look out for when shopping around for them. For example, the same company should be able to handle all of the services that it offers without farming them out to other companies. In that sense Comcast is a really good choice as it provides its customers with digital cable TV, high speed Internet access, and digital voice home phone service all by itself.

Other companies aren’t able to do this. For example, it’s not unusual for phone companies to have deals with satellite TV companies that allow them to offer bundles of home telephone service, satellite TV, and high speed Internet on a single bill. But while the satellite TV company takes care of the television, the phone company will take care of the high speed Internet and the home phone line. Another common scenario is for a satellite TV company to offer its own services bundled together with high speed Internet service through a satellite Internet company and home phone service through a traditional phone company.

All of these scenarios have their problems that Comcast is able to avoid with its monolithic approach to bundled services. For one thing, whenever more than one company gets involved customer service becomes less convenient for the customers. That’s because it’s not always clear which company is responsible for which situation. For example, in the case where you get your TV and your Internet service through different companies but the same satellite dish, it’s entirely possible that each company could claim that the other company is responsible for taking care of some technical problem associated with the satellite system, and your left with compromised service. Then there’s the issue of having to deal with a traditional telephone company. Traditional phone companies have been hiking their rates, making them prohibitively expensive, yet unlike Comcast these bundles don’t provide you with an alternative to the traditional phone company.

The technology that’s included in these bundles is often inferior as well. For example, if you get your Internet service through the phone company, you’ll be getting DSL which can barely be considered high speed in any sense of the term. If you get internet access through a satellite company, you’ll be getting faster service than DSL but you’ll also be paying a small fortune for it. Plus, satellite Internet access has a built in lag time because of the distance that the data has to travel to and from the satellites, which makes it unsuitable for a variety of Internet applications.

Comcast presents a much better type of bundle that provides superior customer service, better technology, and real savings.
