EyeClops Night Vision Goggles let you see in the dark, even the pitch black. Traditional night vision infrared goggles cost hundreds of dollars and more, while Jakks Eyeclops night vision goggles are only $85. When you think about that price difference, you say to yourself, how could they work? After buying them for my son, I can tell you that he’s having a great time playing with the goggles.

I’m sure you remember growing up and thinking how cool it would be to sneak around in the dark and be invisible. I actually researched night vision equipment, but there wasn’t any around when I was a kid – it was all military stuff. Furthermore, even if you could get your hands on night vision goggles, there were like $1,000 or more.

For one thing, it’s kind of weird that your vision comes from the center eyepiece mounted on your forehead like a third eye. What I mean to say is that normally you see things through your eyes, but the eyeclops “sees” through it’s 3rd eye that’s mounted about 4 inches up and to the left of your right eye. This is a bit disorienting when you first use the device, but my son got used to it pretty quickly.

Guess what – they work really well. I was shocked that I could put them on and see pretty far in the darkness. Yes, I did let my kids play with them, I know what you’re thinking. By the way, my wife did tease me about the fact that it seems like I bought them for myself and not for her.

A final difficulty is that since you have a smaller field of vision, and you’re only seeing in night vision through one eye (the right eye) (and yes, this IS typical in expensive night vision goggles as well), you lose a bunch of depth perception. The moral here is that you don’t want to go running around in night vision mode – you’ll smash into stuff.

We haven’t had any trouble with the goggles, but because the depth perception is a bit difficult when they’re being used, I made sure to supervise my kids when they wanted to wear them outside.

Now on this point, I’m unsure, but the Eyeclops Night Vision Glasses have 2 modes of night vision – a stealth mode and a regular infrared night vision mode. From what I’ve seen, the stealth mode doesn’t seem to use any type of lights to illuminate the darkness, making the wearer completely invisible to others. In regular mode, the eyeclops night vision uses red lights mounted in a circle around the 3rd eye as well as the right eye to illuminate the darkness somewhat, improving your night vision, but obviously giving away your position to others.

All in all, I’m very pleased with Jakks Eyeclops Night Vision Infrared Stealth Goggles, and I think they’ll make a fantastic and fun gift for your kids for Christmas 2008. Check them out, and be confident that your kids will love them and they’ll learn a lot by having them.

Most quick fix methods for electronics have typically involved subjecting it to some form of abuse. This meant a violent action such as hitting, shaking, or kicking to coax it into functioning again. This works because loose electrical connections can reconnect after enough persistence. But other connections are loosened by the mechanical shock which guarantees more problems later on.

One of the more well known “fixes” for the red ring of death problem is called the towel trick. It also falls into this category of abusive, quick fixes. Rather than giving the Xbox a swift kick, the “cure” involves baking the internal components at extreme temperatures so that broken connections are resoldered again and warped components get reshaped.

The towel trick is done by covering your Xbox with 2 or 3 towels. Then your Xbox is switched on for around 15 minutes or so and you’re through. Then it’s time to do some gaming. The next time the ring of death shows up simply repeat the towel fix.

If the method works, then why is the towel trick a bad idea? As mentioned above, the towel trick subjects the internal chips to damaging temperatures. Avoiding heat damage to components during manufacture is a big issue in the electronics industry. To get the soldering temperature high enough for a good solder join without causing chip damage is no trivial thing.

So when you use the towel trick, you get a temporary fix at the expense of damaging the Xbox’s internal components. Eventually this damage will lead to yet another heat related failure. Then when you apply the towel trick again, more damage is done which weakens your Xbox even more. You can only repeat this process so many times before the heat damage is too extensive for the towel trick to work any more. This process is a downward spiral that thoroughly destroys your Xbox.

Another issue that concerns safety is that the towel fix is dangerous. The Xbox puts out an enormous amount heat (thus the need for a cooling system). Because of the insulating action of the towels, the heat doesn’t go anywhere and rapidly builds up. If your Xbox starts burning, other combustibles adjacent to your Xbox (like your house) may also burn.

The towel fix just isn’t common sense and in this instance, counterintuitive won’t work. The red ring of death is basically caused by the Xbox putting out too much heat and having an undersized cooling system. Trying to fix this problem by heating up the Xbox is like fighting fire with fire.

Use the following steps for installing a canvas and you will find that it not only looks excellent, it is already prepared to move whenever the time comes to do so.

1. Make sure that everything is prepared in advance: This includes both the wall and the necessary tools for the installation process.

Remove existing wallpaper. Never hang your mural over old wallpaper.

Fix cracks and holes with spackling mixture, let it dry and sand the surface until it is smooth.

2. Mark your starting point: Begin from a completely horizontal starting line.

3. Apply primer: It is an important step to prepare the wall. You will want to apply a coat of primer before adding glue and allow it to dry for at least 24 hours.

4. Apply glue: The sort of glue you will use depends upon the size of the canvas that will be installed.

For smaller murals, it is fine to use Jade-glue or a similar product.

For larger canvas murals, you can simply go to well-known commercial stores or stores specifically selling supplies for wall coverings.

Apply a solid layer of adhesive, covering the whole surface you want to cover. Take care that you do not apply a layer that is too thick.

Allow it to dry.

Apply a second coat of glue repeating the procedure described above, but this time; do not allow the adhesive to dry.

Carefully press the mural upon the wall and flatten it smoothly with your plastic tool, mindful to the frailty of the mural so as not to damage the surface by keeping a piece of craft paper between the plastic and canvas.

5. Cut borders with a utility knife: Once the mural has been mounted on the wall, carefully trim the excess canvas at the ceiling, baseboard molding and corners using a straightedge utility knife.

6. Wipe away excess paste: To remove left over glue use a clean wet sponge to gently wipe the edges of the mural at the ceiling, corners, and baseboard molding. With a soft dry towel or paper towel pad the remainder of the moisture to dry it.

For best results, I recommend that you install larger wall murals with an assistance.
