Wicked is one of the only Broadway shows to make back all of its investment money after only 14 months of production. This musical originally debuted in October of 2003, and is still mesmerizing audiences to this day. Many new actors, along with many familiar faces, have debuted in Wicked, . Audiences from around the country are magically drawn into this story as if it were their own.

The magical essence of the Wicked Witch of the West (Elphaba) and the Good Witch of the North (Glinda) captivates audiences in a way that is beyond magical. The story in itself is realistic to the point that audiences identify directly with different pieces. The story of Elphaba is one of much scrutiny, as she is not like the others that she is raised with.

From childhood, and throughout her life, Elphaba’s experiences sculpted her into the person she is by the end of the story. Broadway enthusiasts across the country are able to look into the obstacles that Elphaba experiences and correlate them with their own lives. The experiences that one meets through life molds them into who they are – this lesson is apparent throughout the story.

Marcie Dodd had performed with the touring company and had a chance to perform in Los Angeles, but her true debut was on Broadway, cast as the leading role – Elphaba. Marcie Dodd is not alone in the new coming actors performing in Wicked. She is accompanied by many, including: Katie Adams, Sonshine Allen, Sarah Bolt, Sam J. Cahn, Todd Hanebrink, Lindsay Janisse, Chelsea Krombach, Lindsay K. Northern, Rhea Patterson, Eddi Pendergraft, Amanda Rose, Heather Spore, Charlie Sutton, Cy Tyson, Brian Wanee, Jonathan Warren, Katie Webber, Robin Wilner, and Samantha Zack.

Many of the performers are also captivated by the magical essence of Wicked. Performers from the original cast have moved around from venue to venue: Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, and even the touring production.

Eden Espinoza, who at one point was an understudy, is now playing the role of Elphaba in Los Angeles along with Carol Kane who is playing the role of Miss Morrible (Miss Morrible was the character that Carole Kane originally played when she was on Broadway). Annaleigh Ashford has resumed her role as Glinda, once played in Broadway and now in Chicago.

Even with all of the new faces in Broadway, Wicked has still casted many beloved performers. Carol Kane, David Garrison, Lenny Wolpe, Jayne Houdyshell, and P.J. Benjamin have all taken breaks in order to play in productions such as Wicked.

This musical is capturing the hearts of many, and not only the audiences, but the performers too. Many of these performers are on stage 7 nights a week, and throughout multiple cities. Regardless, every show is performed as if it’s the first production. The passion these actors portray is nothing short of magical.
