Composition is what makes a photograph interesting, and it also keeps your viewer engaged. In order to improve your composition, just follow these tips. If you are just starting out with photography, it may take you a while to develop an “eye” for composition, but don’t worry because you will improve.

1. Make sure that you always keep composition in mind. Try not to rely on cropping your photos later. While you can crop your photos later, you will waste a lot of time cropping all of them in order to get an interesting image.

2. Subject placement is the first thing to consider. Rarely do you want to place your subject in the middle of the frame. Instead, place your subject in a “sweet spot.”

To visualize these sweet spots, first think about a blank, rectangular photo. Next, draw 2 vertical lines that break the frame into 3 equal sections. Draw 2 horizontal lines that break the frame into 3 equal sections. There are 4 spots where these lines intersect, and these are called sweet spots. Experiment placing your subject in one of these imaginary sweet spots for a great photo.

3. Lines and texture can be used to draw your view in. Lines will allow the viewer to be guided around the photograph.

A spiral staircase will draw the viewer around the photos as well as inward. Blades of grass would draw the viewer from the bottom of the photos to the top, and rays of sun would draw the viewer from the top of the photos to the bottom creating a cycle.

When you have a horizon, try to place it above or below the middle. For a strong composition, try using lines from subjects such as railroad tracks, buildings, trees, or ladders.

Having problems with your Xbox locking up? Are you getting the ring of doom error signal. You now belong to a very large international club of disappointed Xbox owners.

A revolution has taken in place in the cutting of fabric for sewers across the world. The rotary cutter is the center of this exciting trend. This sewing tool makes cutting fabric more precise, less wear and tear on the users hand and wrist, faster, easier, and safer.

This invention is simple but ingenious. It consists of a circular blade connected to a handle and protected by a sliding shield. You hold the handle in your hand, and press down while rolling the cutter. It is so quick and easy. It is also safe when some basic precautions are taken.

Remember safety first. While the rotary cutter comes with a convenient protective shield, when the shield is drawn back, the sharp razor like blade is exposed. Caution: It is sharp and will cut fingers and more. Prevent accidents by always practicing proper cutting techniques. Keep out of the reach of children. Never run with the rotary cutter.

Always cut with a sharp rotary blade. Never use a rotary blade that is dull or has a nick on the blade. Change it. It may be possible to sharpen a rotary blade, but it is generally quite inexpensive, and may be better to just replace it when it gets dull or marred by pins, paperclips, staples, pieces of plastic, cardboard, and other debris. Always keep the blade in its handle with safety guide on, until cutting, and then replace the safety as soon as finished.

Keep the rotary cutter clean, free of oils, free of lint, free of anything that might affect its precision cutting ability.

Rotary cutters are easy to use, once you learn to properly hold them. Take the handle in your hand. Line your index finger up with the blade. This will help guide and control your cutting. Relax and avoid tensing up.

Use the rotary cutter exclusively on a fully supported cutting surface. Never use a rotary cutter without its rotary cutting mat. Use the cutting mat on a stable cutting table capable of supporting the cutting process.

On top of the cutting mat, lay out your materials and smooth it out. Eliminate any lumps, bumps, or debris.

Plastic rulers sometimes tend to slip and slide on fabric. Be careful. You may purchase special rulers with non slip backing, or you can purchase a special adhesive sandpaper dots or non-slip film to make your ruler non-slip. Check out the Omnigrid InvisiGripTM your local sew and quilt store.

Place the clear ruler edge just where you want to cut. Keep grainline in mind when setting your ruler to achieve the best possible cut. Place the rotary cutter blade beside the ruler with the handle rising up at its recommended angle (varies depending on the design of the cutter). Pull the Safety lever back exposing the rotary cutting blade. The blade should line up with the ruler, but not cut into it.

Properly position your body, your hands, your arms, and your feet for optimum cutting control and comfort. Avoid reaching. If you are too tall or too short to cut on the table, fit the table height before cutting. If you slip, fall, or otherwise move, it will mess up your cut. Position your support hand on the ruler to keep it in place.

Again, never reach in an careless manner. Using a non slip ruler makes it easy to walk your support hand along the ruler while you cut. The procedure is easy to do. When you feel uncomfortable with your reach, stop the cut. Do not move the ruler or the cutter. Move your support hand forward to a comfortable support position and start cutting again. Keep steady pressure on the cutter to the end of the cut.

At the end of the cut, release the safety. Always seal the blade after every cut. Every time up put the cutter down, make certain the safety is covering the blade. No one wants to get cut. It is also a good idea to wear shoes when cutting. Remember, respect the razor sharp rotary blade at all times.

With the year 2008 almost finished Hollywood presented us with at least three hundred films. Out of all these movies, something like 70, or so, would be classified as comedies. Let’s name a few of the best comedies to see out there for you.

MADAGASCAR: ESCAPE 2 AFRICA: As the title suggests, this is the next in the sequence to the big hit film Madagascar. The four animal heroes, Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, and Gloria the Hippo are attempting to leave Madagascar, and go back to New York’s famous Central Park Zoo, which is the only home they know. As oppossed to going home, with the Penguins leading them astray, they now are headed to have more adventures first.

PINEAPPLE EXPRESS: Complete stoner Dale unfortunately has just viewed a bad police officer, and a powerful drug dealer, kill someone. They see him witness the crime. Knowing they’ve seen him, he is so shaken he throws down his joint, a rare blend namend pineapple express, and takes off. The weed is so special, that the bad guys can track it. The “fun” is on, as Dale and his dealer Saul are on the run.

HAMLET 2: Dana Marshz, formerly a small time actor, has found himself teaching high school theatre to uninterested students. The school loses a building due to destruction, so the administration decides the theater curriculum will get the axe. With a challenge now in front of him, he sets out to save the program by producing Hamlet 2, an original interpretation of the Shakespeare classic, which he writes himself.

GET SMART: Agent 86, aka Maxwell Smart is here again, “and loving it”. The evil organization (KAOS) vs the good guys (CONTROL), the shoe phone, and the cone of silence. This is a modern day version that looks back at this classic spy spoof TV series.

TROPIC THUNDER: With a collection of acting greats this outrageous flick is a claasic parody of popular war films. In order to inspire his spoiled actors to make a first rate war movie, the desperate director into the jungle, and leaves them on thier own. His theory is to overwhelm them into producing a war classic, which will be caught on hidden cameras in the area. When the director walks over a land mine and is blown apart, the actors are now truely on their own, and they think there acting, when things start to get very real. Stars include Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., and Tom Cruise.

STEP BROTHERS: When two 40 year olds, who still live with their single parents, find themselves having to live in the same room because their parents have wed, big problems loom. Casting John Reilly and Will Ferrell as the key players, and this has the makings for lots of laughs. This seems like a must see for a good laugh in 2008.

FORGETTING SAHRAH MARSHALL: Ater suffering a devastating break up with Sarah, a TV actress, Peter eventually decides to go on a trip to Hawaii to start anew and forget about Sarah. Of course, when he checks into the resort hotel, the first people he sees are his ex and her new boyfriend, a rock star super stud. This sets up as a classic romantic comedy.

ROLE MODELS: Danny and Wheeler, a couple of energy drink promoters, are looking at jail time because they binged, and trashed the company truck. The option to get out of going to prison is by doing communuty service. They are assigned to mentor some kids in a community service program. A good situation for some good laughs.

ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO: The bills are piling up and Zack and Miri, roomies who have been friends since grade school, need to make some money. What’s their solution? That’s obvious, make a dirty movie. As one can expect this is a perfect enviornment for a great comedy.

PINEAPPLE EXPRESS: Heavy pot smoker Dale Denton has just seen a bad police officer, and a powerful drug dealer, kill someone. He was spotted witnessing what’s gone down. Understanding that he has been seen, he unwittingly throws down his joint, a unique version called pineapple express, and runs. The marijuana is particular enough, that the bad guys can trace it. The “fun” is on, as Dale and his dealer Saul are deparately hidding from the bad guys.

Several years ago, my husband wrote a story for a magazine about his years growing up on the farm. After it was published, several family members and long forgotten friends, responded that his recollections were quite different from theirs. Perhaps it is faulty memory or just rosy recall, but even history books sometimes tell very different stories.

The patent filed by Elias Howe in 1846 certified the first practical sewing machine.

The two thread process used one thread connected to a curved needle and a second thread contained inside a shuttle. The first needle would puncture the fabric and bring the first thread to interlace with the second thread inside the shuttle. The result was a locked stitch inside the fabric.

Elias Howe had done it! His lockstitch machine could put out (250spm) as much as five speedy experienced hand sewers.

It was joked that Elias Howe was not actually the inventor of the sewing machine. Some said it was actually his wife. She got so upset with her husband that one day she made up her mind and in two hours invented the sewing machine. Elias, however, filed the patent taking Credit »”>credit for everything. (Russel Conwell, 1877).

We will never know the truth about exactly how it was done, but difficulties marketing the device and struggles over patent rights drained the Howe family of even greater success.

Others were watching and adapting. Isaac Singer (1811-1875) invented a mechanism that moved up and down. Allen Wilson originated a rotary hook shuttle.

Quickly, Isaac Singer led the pack. He produced the first profitable sewing machine with a needle that moved up and down. Unlike many of his competitors how used hand crank drive devices, Singer introduced a sewing machine powered by a foot driven treadle device.

Prior to Elias Howe filing his patent, someone else had already produced a working model of a lockstitch machine using two threads like Howes invention, but he never filed a patent. His name was Walter Hunt and the year was 1834 ” twelve years earlier than Howe. Hunt had stopped working on his invention due to social pressures among garment workers fearful of losing their jobs to a machine. Still, Elias Howe later sued Hunt for patent infringement.

Seemingly endless legal battles ensued over patent infringements. In spite of winning the court battle (1854), Elias Howe largely lost the marketing battle.

Elias Howe was certainly successful with his invention of the sewing machine. Earning about two million dollars, he became a wealthy man, but the potential of his invention was realized far more by his competitors.

Elias Howe is a name forgotten by most even among avid sewers. His competitor, however, Isaac Singer has become well known even among those who do not sew. Due to Isaac Singers success at marketing and improving the sewing machine, the Singer brand continues to be the best known brand of sewing machines.

Communities were desperate to get their hands on this exciting new invention. Towns would join together to buy one machine for the whole town. Soon the sewing machine became a necessary appliance for every home. By the 1950s every home expected to have a sewing machine and a vacuum cleaner.
