NASCAR: Humble Beginnings

by Matt Ryan

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), was conceived on a bar room napkin. The bar to which the napkin belonged was known as the Ebony Bar, which was located at the Streamline Hotel in Daytona Beach. The conversation from which the napkin gained import was held in 1948 by both drivers and promoters of local stock car races. It’s reported that stock car races began as early as the 1900′s in the Daytona Beach area. The meeting, and the napkin, might never have come to be had a mechanic named William France, Sr. not have moved to the Daytona area from Washington, D.C. in 1935. By 1936, he, too, had been captured by the sport, and even managed to finish fifth in a local race. Mr. France was moved to participate in such a meeting after his stint in racing for two reasons: a) he believed the sport had a potential for a following, and b) he believed the drivers were being mistreated by unregulated promoters who simply chose not to pay them.

Since its birth, NASCAR has grown, and now has fans from all over the country. It shouldn’t be a surprise that NASCAR has so many fans, because NASCAR chose early on to treat their fans quite well. NASCAR has not only expanded geographically, it has also embraced other types of racing. And in its continuing quest to please its fans, NASCAR decided early on please its fans through its ticketing system. A ticketholder to a NASCAR event can choose to see any one of its nationwide racing series: either the Sprint Cup, the Nationwide Series, or the Craftsmen Truck Series. Almost unbelievably, this same ticket give the fan entree to regional events as well, such as the Whelen All-American Series (amateur auto racing); the Whelen Modified Tour (NASCAR modified division); and the NASCAR Local Racing (four geographic series).

NASCAR: MADE IN THE USA, TO STAY IN THE USA

NASCAR has expanded from Daytona Beach, Florida to all around the world. Exhibition races have been held in two countries, and the sport is currently broadcast in over 150 countries all over the world. NASCAR’s fans have made it so popular that it is currently the second most popular sport on television – second only to the National Football League. NASCAR fans contributed to almost three billion dollars in product sales last year. Even Fortune 500 companies are getting into the act. Despite this popularity, however, NASCAR appears to prefer its roots. NASCAR, it would seem, recognizes what its local and loyal fans have done for it, and has decided to maintain its major corporate presence right where it began: in Daytona Beach, Florida, as well as several offices in North Carolina. Despite its international attention, it has but two offices overseas.

NASCAR STAYS HOME, SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO

NASCAR knows why it is what it is: the fans. The fans even know why NASCAR it what it is: THE FANS! It’s why a race must be seen at the track: THE FANS! They’re loud, they’re proud, and they make NASCAR what it is.

The always have, and always will, make NASCAR the one and only experience of its kind. A NASCAR fan will have goose bumps on a 90 degree day, and wouldn’t let a tornado warning keep her from her race. She’s got her tickets, waited all season to get ‘em, and now it’s her turn.

You call yourself a NASCAR fan – so where’s your ticket? The season starts on February 12, 2009 at Daytona Beach, and the tickets are going fast. If you’re truly a fan, then you’d better buy your ticket now. Be where the sport itself started, when the season starts. Don’t be the only one sitting at home.

If you don’t buy your tickets, trust me, the other fans will. Sold out is sold out, and then where will you be? Get your tickets for Daytona Beach on the 12th – NASCAR, where it was meant to be watched, whichever series you like: Sprint Cup, Nationwide, or Craftsmen Truck.

BE who everyone wants to be – a NASCAR ticket holder; BE where everyone wants to be – in Daytona on February 12th; BE the envy of EVERYONE – BUY your tickets, and BUY them NOW!

America’s Sport – Football and the Super Bowl

by Matt Ryan

Football has always been one of Americas favorite sports for some time. Due to the popularity, of this sport, ticket prices are higher than ever. However, this has not stopped fans from trying to acquire the best seats possible. Super Bowl Sunday is the second highest food and drink consumption day of the year – following Thanksgiving.

The Super Bowl brings other big-ticket items to the table, like hysterical commercials. This is the one time of the year where people look forward to the commercials they will see – unlike any other television show in existence.

The Super Bowl was originally known as a showdown between the young and the old. However, this only lasted for three Super Bowls. By the fourth, the two leagues had successfully merged, creating the NFC (National Football Conference) and AFC (American Football Conference).

On January 15, 1967, the Green Bay Packers took their very first Super Bowl championship. The Kansas City Chiefs lost to the packers, with a humiliating score of 35 – 10. However, they are still known for playing in the first Super Bowl ever.

Their luck did not stop here. The Packers went on to win the Super Bowl the following year, along with five championships by the end of the decade.

The Vince Lombardi Trophy was name after the Packers’ coach during their run of fame – Vince Lombardi. These trophies are pieces of work. Each one is created at Tiffany’s, takes over 72 person-hours, and $12,500 – a great piece of art for an accomplished honor.

Each member, of each team playing in the Super Bowl, receives a championship ring. These rings, like the trophy, are of the utmost superiority. The winners’ rings cost around $5,000 and the losers’ rings cost around $2,500 each. (The NFL furnishes over 300 rings, 150 for each team, every year.)

As of today, the two leagues are equal, when it comes to the number of wins. Although the NFL / NFC is still ahead with 21 Super Bowl wins to 20 won by the AFL / AFC.

During the regular season, determinations are made for home field advantages and Wild Card teams. Wild card teams are those who are just behind the Division championship, or how played in the wrong division. Division winners are automatic shoe-ins for the playoffs.

After the season is over, and these selections are complete, the playoffs begin. Wild card teams do not have home field advantage, and play against other low ranked teams. Division champions, on the other hand, do have home field advantage, and play teams ranked around their level. Wild card teams, because of their ranking and home field disadvantage, rarely make it to the Super Bowl. However, four wild card teams have made it to the Super Bowl, and won!

Footballs long history has captured the heart of the American people. The grueling exercises, exciting games, exhilarating playoff and championship games will continue to captivate audiences for years to come.

Tampa, FL will be hosting Super Bowl XLIII this year on February 1, 2009. With the two teams playing in the game, this year, it is said that this will be one of the most enthralling games in history.

Here’s How You Can Find Wii Game Downloads

by Sam Lockwood

The Nintendo Wii continues to be a hot selling item, so we thought we’d take the opportunity to create a guide that you can use for downloading Wii games. You probably have learned that buying games can get expensive very fast. By downloading games for your Wii system, you’ll save yourself lots of dough, and you’ll always be able to try the newest games.

Downloading Wii games is a pretty recent development. Most Wii owners have no idea how simple it can be to download games for a Wii system. We asked our followers about this, and discovered that while almost everyone knew about downloading games and music, they didn’t know that full versions of games can be downloaded from the internet. Our readers seemed to think that only outdated or partial games were available online.

The exciting news is that full game versions for even the newest and most popular games are available for download from the internet. The available selection is stunning, and we ought to let you know ahead of time ? it’s habit forming!

Alright, let’s get started. The following explains how to download Wii games.

Let’s start by warning you about sites that promote “free” downloadable Wii games. A few of these sites are around, and should generally be avoided.

You’re likely to discover that these sites involve game file sharing from a random pool of users. Anyone can upload whatever file they choose, with little checking or monitoring. This causes all kinds of issues, including viruses, spyware, and other harmful computer infections. You might also find that when you open a file, it’s not the game you were looking for, or the file ends up being corrupted in some way.

Save yourself time and trouble, and protect your computer from damage, by staying away from these sites!

The best way to download Wii games is to join a membership only site. Specialized web sites allow you unlimited game downloads once you sign on and register for a membership.

Keeping their paying customers happy is a top priority for these site owners, so you can be sure game files work, download quickly, and are free of harmful computer infections.

While the cost for a membership can vary from site to site, you’ll probably be charged about $50. But, this is a charge that you pay only once, and then you have full lifetime access to the members-only area. You will be able to download an unlimited number of games as often as you like.

One other note of caution ? some sites charge per download. I recommend avoiding these sites mainly because it’s probably less expensive in the long run to just buy a membership.

In case you’re concerned about not knowing how to use your games once you’ve downloaded them from the internet, rest assured that these membership websites will provide a detailed tutorial for making the games work on your Wii. You will receive the specialized software necessary for putting the games on your system.

Quality sites will give you a money back guarantee to try the site and see how it works for you. Be careful though ? like we said ? downloading Wii games can be an addictive and hard habit to break!

Being careful when you download games to your computer

by Vanessa Cruz

Today, there are more and more free sites popping up that feature games that you can play on your computer. Many people spend hours playing them and get completely addicted. Before you know it, they will download games each and every day.

There are a ton of sites that offer the ability to download games from the Internet. While you can play some of them without downloading, the best ones do not usually have that feature. Before downloading games you are going to want to make sure that you check a couple of things.

While there are plenty of legitimate sites that feature downloadable games, there is also a decent amount of sites that are trying to do nothing more than hack their way into your computer. If you have ever clicked on a link after doing a search and our rerouted to a site that has nothing to do with your games search, you know what I’m talking about. Before clicking yes to anything, make sure that you’re getting exactly what you’re looking for.

Games have come a long way on the Internet. In the beginning, you were only able to play a couple of board games and a few different varieties of cards. Nowadays, you are offered just about every board game known to mankind, every card game you can think of and hundreds if not thousands of downloadable games.

Most of the games that you can download offer a free trial version. You’re going to want to make sure that you download the free version before committing your money to purchasing the game. Most of these free downloads will allow you one hour of play time, which is more than enough to see if you actually like it. The general rule of thumb is if you run out of time before shutting the game off, he usually having a pretty good time playing it.

There are games that after you download the trial version, you can’t wait to get it off of your computer. Then there are games like Fishdom and have you reaching for your wallet about five minutes in to your game play.

Once you have downloaded the game, you no longer need to be connected to the Internet to play. You can simply fire up the game any time you’re looking for a little entertainment. If the game has updates, they will usually automatically happen you start the game as it will connect to the Internet briefly to see if improvements have been made.

There are also interactive downloadable games on the Internet. These are also games that are sweeping the world with popularity. You can play these games individually, against others or even develop your own team to compete against others at certain levels of play. This may be one of the best features of Internet gaming as your team can be comprised of four different people from four different corners of the world.

A Bikers Tale: Son Of Pappy

by LJ James

Many of you out there probably do not know that I L.J. James am the Son of Pappy (Freelance writer on the Biker Lifestyle) ! Hell I didn’t know till 1986,Well I knew I just didn’t know him! Pappy an my Mother got separated when I was young and I didn’t see Pappy from around 76 till 86. When I met him he wasn’t even known as Pappy yet! That came later.

I had lived with my Mother an step-Father on Long Island in NY till the Summer of 86. I had always been into Bikes and the life style. Many times after getting into some kind of trouble I would hear the saying “He is just like his Father”. Little did I know at the time just how true it really was! After getting into some more teenage trouble (you know the deal Drinking,Staying out late, getting brought home by the cops 2 or 3 times). My Mother figured it was time for me to meet my Father. So in the Summer of 86 at the age of 15, I found myself flying up to Rochester NY to meet my Father!

When I first met Pappy He owned a large House and He rented out rooms in the house to College kids and other Bikers. Almost as soon as I got there Pappy started teaching me to Ride a Motorcycle and probably just as important if not more, what the words Respect, Honesty , Loyalty and Brotherhood mean in the Biker World. I still remember clearly one time at a John Fogarty Concert. Me, Pappy and a few other Bikers where in the parking lot looking at Motorcycles. I saw this really cool bike with this paint job that was just unbelievable, I went to touch it and Pappy grabbed my hand looked at me in the eyes and told me “Never touch another mans Bike without his permission” and till this day I never have.

The House Pappy owend was well known by many of the Bikers in the area and was the place many large party’s where held, It was not uncommon to find a bunch of Bikers sleeping in the living room any given morning. These Bikers where family to me and when they said “He is just like his Father” it gave me a feeling of over whelming pride! I have always loved hearing the stories these true Brothers of the biker world would tell me. I feel the old Biker stories need to be saved and told over and over again.

New Motorcycle Riders are learning about Biker history from old 1960′s Biker Gang movies that have no historic truth to them. Just like with any culture if you lose your true history you lose what you really are! I feel the only way to return the Biker world to its true origin is to keep the old stories alive ! Too many “Bikers” complain that the younger Motorcycle Riders of today have no idea what it means to be a Biker! Well I think maybe the problem is that some of the older Bikers never really knew what it meant to be a Biker, Because if they did they would know its their job to teach the next generation! A new Motorcycle Rider must know what the Spirit of Biker Brotherhood is before he can truly feel it and become a part of it. (Maybe that’s part of why I became a writer?)

I said at the Beginning of this story Pappy was not yet known as Pappy and I would tell you how that came to be. Well if you remember the Summer of 86 you will remember the Karate Kid Movie was a Big Hit and was on HBO like 10 times a day,Well as far as I could remember I had never called anyone Dad or Father or anything like that. In the Karate Kid they called each other miyagi san and Daniel san! Well thinking I was clever I started calling my Father “Pappy san”, He in turn started calling me Son of Pappy and soon after everyone started calling Him Pappy!

Now many of You maybe wondering why the Hell am I telling you all this. Well like I have said there are many Motorcycle riders these days that have no clue what Biker Brotherhood really is. I think it is important that they know this is not something you buy into, But something you grow into. Too many buy a Motorcycle and then do nothing but talk, They are only there for you if you have something to offer them. There are very few true Bikers left, Bikers are being replaced by Motorcycle enthusiasts and part of it is our own fault! I write this story in hopes it will help spread the word that only the true old School bikers can teach the younger generation the true meaning of Biker Brotherhood.

A true Biker who feels the Brotherhood Spirit always has some older Biker to thank for passing that Spirit onto him! I thank my Father Pappy, My Uncle Trey and all the other Bikers Who helped to raise me to be the Biker I am, I am very glad to have been raised by them and I am very Proud to have grown up to be one of them !

Tattoo Parlors: Choosing the Right One for You

by Ben Swank

With the advancements made in laser removal of tattoos, many tattoo newcomers mistakenly believe that they can always change their minds later, and cover up or entirely remove a tattoo at will. Unfortunately, this is just not the case. Laser removal is inconsistent at best, certain colors are difficult to remove, and scarring is very common. So while you might be eager to get your new ink, take your time and make and an informed, lifelong decision.

1) First and foremost, do your research. There’s no sense even looking into the tattoo artists or the cleanliness of the environment unless the parlor itself comes highly rated. This is much easier than it sounds, as you’re not really trying to find the best parlor at the stage; instead, you’re trying to weed out the worst.

2) Ask around. Chances are that your friends and acquaintances have tattoos and you can ask about their experiences. Of course, if their tattoos are awful, don’t bother asking! Surprisingly, even strangers are open to talking about their tattoos. After all, they are visible, so their owners want them to be noticed, and they’re impersonal enough that few people take offense to questions. And it’s a great way to meet people to boot.

Once you have personal recommendations, do some web searches for each of the specific parlor names. Search for phrases like “tattoo-shop-name complaints,” “tattoo-shop-name sucks,” etc.

Your local independent paper is another good source of referrals. Tattoo shops very often advertise in these papers, and if the ads are recurring, odds are very high that the shop is favored in the community.

3) Do your safety checks. Now that you have a shortlist of potential providers, visit each of the shops. You’re looking at safety and cleanliness at this point.

* When working with customers, do the tattooists wear gloves? * Do they wash their hands between tattoos? * Is smoking prohibited in the studio? Is the parlor licensed? * Is the studio free of dirt and debris, i.e. is it clean? * Do the artists pull their needles from the autoclave (sterilizing equipment) prior to each tattoo? * Are single-use supplies used during a session? For example, look for things like disposable ink cups, fresh needles, and the like? * Is each client shaved and properly disinfected prior to beginning work? * Are spray bottles and other hand-held equipment wrapped in plastic bags (prevents cross contamination)?

4) Find an artist. If you’re satisfied that the shop is clean, it’s time to look for a specific artist. This is a matching process. While most artists are very versatile, if you’re looking for a skull tattoo, wouldn’t it make more sense to get it from someone who specializes in skulls? Often by looking through the art books in the parlor, you can get a feel for the style of each artist.

Tattoo studios receive a lot of walk-in traffic that is just shopping around or browsing through books, and many people getting tattoos get art that the tattooists find a bit boring. So don’t expect the artists to bend over backwards to accommodate you, but they should still be friendly, helpful, and offer advice without pushing your decision. Most good, qualified artists know that informed clients make satisfied clients.

If you feel that you are being pushed into something that you don’t like, or if the artist is dismissive of your questions, you might need to move on. Many experienced artists prefer working on intricate, large designs, so you might just fall under their radar. It’s nothing to worry about: there is someone out there perfect for your tattoo.

5) Don’t price it. Keep in mind that this tattoo will be with you for decades, making the cost per wear minimal. Don’t try to save a few bucks and risk ending up with a tattoo that is less than optimal. The risk just isn’t worth it. I’m sure there are some cases of price gouging out there, but I’ve never personally experienced them or talked to anyone who has. Just spend the money — the peace of mind is worth it.

6) Choose your location. Sensitive areas and areas closer to bone tend to be more painful, but you shouldn’t let pain determine your tattoo’s location. Hip tattoos are very popular, as well as lower-back and shoulder tattoos. Growing in popularity are hand tattoos and foot tattoos, while the old standbys like arm tattoos are still going strong.

7) Choose your design. Similar to pricing your tattoo, don’t settle for any old design you find in their books. With the abundance of tattoo designs available in online galleries, there is no reason you can’t find the perfect tattoo for your skin. Your best option is to make use of a quality tattoo finder to browse designs. You’ll be able to find and download artwork, and see real life pictures of what the tattoos look like on people.

The History and Background of the Piano

by J. Simon

The piano has evolved over the centuries as a keyboard instrument that has increased in size over the years. A pianist presses the keys, that have hammers which are covered with cloth which in turn hits the tightened strings after the key is pressed. After the keys are struck, then the hammers are released so that strings start a series of sound vibrations.

After keys are played by the pianist, the sound is stopped. As each key or chords are played, the resonance of the sound is directed to the soundboard which can be heard according to varying levels of loud or soft dynamics. So the piano is capable of contrasting dynamics and varying duration of pitches.

In traditional Western music, the piano is put to a wide variety of uses: for solo performance, ensemble recitals, chamber music, and as accompaniment for vocals or other instrument scores. It is also amongst the most popular instrumental aids for composing and rehearsing music. Although the piano is large and usually rather expensive, its versatility and indispensability have contributed to its status as the perhaps the most familiar and ubiquitous among musical instruments.

Piano is a shortened term for Pianoforte, which means loud and soft in Italian. This describes the ability for the piano to play various levels of loud and soft. The instrument piano has evolved from the Harpsichord a very popular instrument during the Baroque era centuries ago.

The original model for the piano is the much older stringed instrument known as the harp, the earliest versions of which were designed and used in ancient Greece centuries before the birth of Christ. At some point, a musically minded inventor conceived of the idea that instead of plucking the strings on a harp with the fingers as was traditionally done, it was also possible to devise a means of plucking the strings mechanically. It was this idea for a harp operated by mechanical keys that revolutionized music and gave rise to the first primitive keyboard.

Musician and inventor Cristofori initiated the invention with designs of the harpsichord the instrument that preceded the piano. The instrument was far from perfect, but the harpsichord was the accepted instrument for music of the Baroque era and popular with composers like J.S. Bach and George Handel. The harpsichord evolved into the piano as we know it into the 19th century and made popular with virtuoso works by Chopin and Liszt.

The harpsichord’s inventor aimed for an instrument that would carry colorful high pitches and deep low notes. The piano was built to have hammers that were controlled, use steel strings, and remodel the resonators and fret board so that the sound emanating from the keyboard was much more dramatic than the simple harpsichord. Double key escapement allowed notes to sound again while the hammer did not return to resting position.

The real development of the piano occurred around the 19th century with the invention of felt hammers which helped the strings resonate better, better steel wires, and more superior frames for the sounding board. The piano was built into the upright styles in the 19th century which was a smaller version of the much larger grand piano. This change made the piano much more affordable for more families and more people had the opportunity to learn the instrument.

Following the Charts ” Which One is Best?

by Scott McKenzie

American Top 40, Billboard, MTV, Rick Dees Weekly Top 40there is no shortage of charts that rank music. But which one should you follow? The choice is really up to you.

While there is no tried and true test that says one is better than the other one, the American standard by which a song is judged is Billboard. Billboard ranks songs based on sales and on airplay and then has a Hot 100 board which is a culmination of sales and airplay. Billboard divides music into genres, with some songs crossing from one to another. The Hot 100 debuted its first number one song in 1957 and continues to do so today. Additionally, Billboard is subdivided into segments such as the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Pop, Billboard Country, and other genres.

American Top 40 with Ryan Seacrest is another immensely popular music chart. Originally hosted by Casey Kasem and counting down the top Billboard hits, American Top 40 now counts down songs with the most airplay and based on Mediabase. While American Top 40 is entertaining, it is not as definitive as Billboard in how it arrives at its ratings.

Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 is another chart countdown that has been around for a long time. Rick Dees originally hosted the American Top 40 before being replaced with Ryan Seacrest. This is another good chart, but still not as authoritative as Billboard.

There are literally hundreds of charts in the music world you can follow. MTV has charts for the best music video; genre specific charts exist for specific music. Deciding which chart to follow can seem daunting to say the least.

As mention on the past, the advertisements that is given are raised to the top of the charts. Performers are good to be ranked on, specially in terms of musics.

If you are looking for music from all over the world, then there are music charts which list out this music; they also have charts which are listed based on voting; there are also charts which are based in sales and airplay.

Deciding which chart is best for you to follow depends on why you are following the charts. If you are following the chart to see how well a song is performing commercially then you will want to follow a chart that ranks according to sales, such as Billboard. If you want to see how well a song performs in terms of radio play then you will want to follow a chart based on airplay such as Billboard or American Top 40.

Regardless of what chart you choose to follow, music and its ranking is all a matter of opinion. A song can be number one or number 100 and if you like it that is all that matters. Unless you have a monetary stake in the songs performance, choosing which chart to follow is much like choosing your music, its all a matter of personal taste.
