The majority of hip quivers attach to the hunters waist belt and also to the thigh. This keeps it from moving around while you are trying to cover some ground. Some hunters get a second belt just for the hip quiver to eliminate any awkwardness in unbuckling and buckling their pants belt each time they detach the quiver.

If you do choose to use a hip quiver, make sure the arrows dont rattle around with the slightest movement. Most can hold anywhere from three to a dozen arrows. Quivers are meant not only to keep the arrows close-by but are also designed for safety as well.

Ultimately, the kind of quiver you choose must fit your personal needs. Some hunters might think a quiver has a nice fit, is practical and easy to use, while another hunter will think the same quiver is terribly uncomfortable. Archery is all about enjoyment, whether it be hunting or shooting targets, so keep that in mind when choosing the right equipment for you.

The wetsuit is the accessory that symbolizes today’s scuba diving, along with fins and a tank. History

The first wetsuits were essentially rubber skins that were worn to keep in heat and protect the skin. These primitive suits gave way to more advanced suits made of neoprene, whose cellular construction allowed air and water to be trapped and heated better than mere rubber. Even though neoprene was more flexible, these early wetsuits were easy to tear and very hard to put on; often dressing required applying talcum powder to the inside of the suit. Several generations passed, with breakthrough lines such as the Sharkskin and Turtleskin brands adding a layer of nylon sheeting to the inner suit and a textured surface to increase strength and durability.

Modern wetsuits use combinations of Lycra or other synthetic materials to replace nylon sheeting. Some brands, such as the Pinnacle Aquatics lines, feature combinations of titanium weaves and natural Merino wool to increased durability, warmth and to reduce odors. These modern suits also use layers of thicker materials to protect sensitive spine and neck areas, and have reinforced knee and elbow pads to protect the diver against chafing against rocks and coral heads.

The Way They Work

Water flows into the small pores of the neoprene foam of the suit where it is trapped and warmed by the body heat and exertions of the diver. The layer of warm water keeps the cold water from reaching the divers body by acting as a thermos bottle. The wetsuits are designed to let water come in contact with the skin. This is in contrast to the dry suit which keeps all water out. Wetsuits are usually used in waters whose temperatures range from 40 to 60 degrees. Dry suits are used in waters whose temperatures are much lower.

Wet Suit Types

Besides the well known full suit, there are many different types of wetsuits available. The Shorty suits do not cover the entire leg and arm areas but only the torso. These suits are best for warm water conditions. The “Farmer Johns” has a thickened “pants” layer that goes up around the shoulders, but doesn’t cover the arms; this type is good for surfing applications where knee protection is important. Now there are specialized “thin suits” for competition swimming and light dive applications. These suits offer streamlining and abrasion protection more than they do temperature control.

The Hoods

Since over 25% of body heat is lost through the head, hoods are a very important accessory to a full wetsuit. Hoods are often made of similar materials to a wetsuit, but are somewhat thicker to prevent loss of heat around such a sensitive area. Most hoods have long “bibs” that tuck within the neck of the wet suit to protect against a gush of cold water down the neck.

Even though some wetsuits have integrated feet, most use separate booties that are drawn up over the legs of the wetsuit. These are usually corrugated and reinforced to allow divers to stand or push off against rough surfaces.

The Gloves

In this age where valuable free time is so precious, where do we find relaxation, peace, or solitude from the busy life of today with all it’s trials and tribulations. People use this time in different ways, but I am sure that many opt for some sort of peace and tranquility.

So yes, you need soothing from all the daily frustrations we face. Head off, camera in hand, and find your salvation somewhere out of town. As a contemporary artist I find that this works wonders. Natural scenes are a wonderful tonic, birds, trees, leaves, grasses, hills, animals to observe.

The colors in the country are inspiring, whether in winter or summer. I love the starkness of winter when the trees are stripped bare, the first snows, and of course the pattern that frost make, whether on the window panes, cars, etc.

The Autumn is fantastic. This surely is one of the best seasons for color. Swirling leaves in mixed colors blowing in all directions, golden yellows, browns and varying shades of reds. They seem to pelt along together with the falling twigs from the trees, conkers and ebbing leaves.

I have spent some time in County Kerry, where the scenes there are naturally rugged which is fascinating to the eye of a painter. If you head on towards Dingle the natural flow of the waterfalls at Muckross Pass takes your breath away. The early morning mists too, are something to behold.

Different things capture people’s emotions, personally I am quite happy to stroll along a deserted beach at any time of the year. Observe the birds, watch the sun dappling on the water, or the flow of the tide as it comes in and goes out. Even see children playing, running in and out of the water, building sandcastles, or dogs roaming free off the leash.

One thing is for sure, one of the finest things to encapsulate is the early morning sunrise or the evening sunsets in all their glory. This is beauty at it’s finest. Spring too, is an interesting season, when you see the first buds appearing on trees, hedges and bushes. Snowdrops and delicate Celandines pushing their way up though the ground.

Easter arrives, the first cuckoos and we are in May before we know it. Carpets of Bluebells flourish in our countryside, creating a heady display. Next stop are our summer months, flowers blooming and trees complementing them.

Flowers are in full bloom creating magical displays which lift our spirits. Hues and patches of delicate tones which warm the soul, to very bright and passionate colors which knock our socks off.

If you are still stuck for inspiration just look up at the clouds. All changing, moving lazily across the sky. Skies are fascinating with colors interchanging, period! Red skies herald a new day and we are in heaven.

Cassius Marcellus Clay, the wry commercial artist who gave the world dogs playing poker, was born in upstate New York in 1844. He was named after the abolitionist Quaker,Cassius Marcellus Coolidge, one of the most eloquent anti-slavery politicians of the antebellum South, Kentucky Sen.

Cash, as his friends and family would call him, had never received any formal art training. Though, by the time he was 20, he was a draftsman and frequently had his sketches featured in the local newspaper. A short time later, he had one of his drawings published in Harpers Weekly and subsequently came to be the inventor of “comic foregrounds”, where tourists place their head through a hole in a painting, appearing to have a comical muscular body for photographs.

In 1903, Coolidge was commissioned to produce a series of humorous paintings for the Brown & Bigelow Company, a purveyor of advertising calendars. His favorite subjects were large dogs like mastiffs, collies, Great Danes, and St. Bernards doing things only people can do. In nine of the 16 pictures, they drink bootleg whiskey and beer, smoke cigars or fusty meerschaum pipes, and avidly play five-card draw. A typical scene has them sitting in a comfortable den around the green felt top of a card table. A shaded lamp centered above them casts the scene’s only light. According to the grandfather clock in one of the dens, it’s 1:10 in the morning.

The dogs had took the place of men like attoneys, magistrates, upper-classmen. These were the Great Danes, the Boxers, and the Mastiffs. Females were portrayed by beagles and poodles serving a tray of beverages and were only featured in a few paintings in the series such as “Sitting Up With a Sick Friend” and “A Bold Bluff”.

The persona of men as the “bad dogs” who smoke, yell, drink and have their poker night is reflected in 1947′s “A Streetcar Named Desire”. Tennessee Williams embellishes sexual politics similar to the scenes of Coolidge’s dogs. Set in New Orleans, it is a world where the men comport suchlike dogs. The main female personas such as Blanche Dubois and her tender sister Stella Kowalski are attempting to put a leash on their men, so to speak.

But contrary to Stanley Kowalski, thrusting his sinewy weight around in the 1st wife-beater T-shirt, Coolidges dogs are emasculated from the same cloth as Harry S Truman, the uxoriously conservative Kansas Town haberdasher who advanced on to become a magistrate and, by the time Streetcar opened, our most main line Chief Executive. The dogs don either flannel suits or handsome leather collars.

For the men of Coolidge’s era, poker had been a pastime as opposed to a way to make serious money, though winning was much better than losing. In Coolidge’s” A Crony in Need”, we see an English Bulldog passing an ace under the table to his accomplice holding the other three aces. These theme only appear here as a relation riverboat sharping and does not continually occur in the series.

A New York Times editor had stated in 1875 that the country’s national pastime was not baseball but poker. Male voters since would mark their calendar, circling the night they played poker. Though the game was played all across the country, it wasn’t till several years later that the very first set of official rules for the game was published.

As the official State Sport, it is perfectly normal to see the occasional jousting festival here in Maryland. The players are not real knights, but they continue to be people who enjoy the spectacle. And it’s no longer a bloodthirsty sport either; more safety protocols are introduced. Ultimately, the event is now based a lot upon fun rather than fighting in blood for the hand of the coveted princess.

These events are especially fun if the whole fair tries to mimic the culture of the middle ages. Anything of technological value is left at home, and people come in costumes adequate for that time. Thus, the whole place truly becomes a snapshot of a former time; a time when knights galloped on their mighty steeds to perform deeds of honor.
