I have always made surprisingly common new year resolutions. A lot of my friends try to be pretty creative when they make up theirs. They resolve to, for example, consolidate all of their photos into a scrapbook or visit a place they had never heard of before within the next 12 months. For me, however, whimsy is pointless. There are enough important things in my life that I really don’t have together That I can’t afford to mess around.

I have tried all the common new years resolutions. I have tried to lose a lot of weight within the next 12 months, go back to school, find love ” you get the idea. I come up with very important projects , but for the most part I haven’t been very together in following my plans.

You see, the common new year resolutions are common because they’re things that everyone worries about and everyone needs to do. The reason people don’t get these things done is that they are difficult goals. Losing weight involves completely changing your habits. Going back to school is an even more major undertaking. And forget finding love ” that can be a lifelong goal. It can be very difficult to stick to these sorts of projects.

Nonetheless, I have found that the more firmly I stick to common new year resolutions, the happier I am. When I did lose 30 pounds in one year ” No mean goal ” I ended that year in a state of pure bliss. I was so absolutely overjoyed with the progress that I made the nothing else seemed to matter. Of course it didn’t change every aspect of my life, but it did make me feel good about myself. And that is, ultimately, what following your new year common resolutions is about.

If you have trouble with your common new year resolutions, don’t kick yourself about it. Instead, simply redouble your efforts. Tell yourself that your resolution To get thin is more important than any snack you might want. Your resolution to get a better job is more important than your desire to rest in front of the TV instead of looking for job posts after work. Life is short, and sometimes there isn’t a lot of time to relax. At other times there is, but you will enjoy your relaxation a lot more If you get your work done first. You will feel you have earned it because of the progress you have made in hitting your goals.

Sometimes, you are going to feel lousy no matter what. It could be something as trivial as a bad day at work, or as serious as the death of a close friend or family member. Either way, it can lead to feelings of great pain and despair.

In times like that, I really like to go and see a comedy movie to distract me for a few hours. There are a lot of comedies out there, and not all of them are good, but even the least can provide a pleasant diversion to keep you occupied for a while. And sometimes, that is a real blessing.

The thing that I have noticed about comedy movies is that it can be really hard to figure out ahead of time what you are going to like and what you are going to not be as in to. For example, take the movie Dodgeball. I only went to that comedy movie Because some of my friends were really into seeing it. I really didn’t expect to like it that much to be honest.

Nonetheless, once it started I was really digging it. It was a lot of fun. It was actually one of the funniest comedy movies I saw all year. I had expected it to be just frat boy humor, but it had an appeal that was much more universal than that.

One thing that I’ve never personally been into is romantic comedies. My girlfriend takes me along to them sometimes, but they just aren’t really my bag. Still, I have even seen a few of those that are pretty good. It just goes to show you that genre really doesn’t tell you very much about the movie. Sometimes the best movies are the ones that defy genre categorization. If the movie can really appeal to people outside of its traditional demographic, that is a sure sign that it is a high quality flick.

Still, for me the best comedy movies are the ones that I actually get to watch at home, curled up with my sweetie. There is something about watching a funny movie while relaxing on your back that lets you really Let go of all your worries and cares. It can be a classic comedy from the Golden age of Hollywood or a new, hip, modern film. It doesn’t matter too much to me. As long as I get to laugh and enjoy the movie with someone I care about.

Although I do like a wide variety of music, sometimes I don’t like surprises. So much of modern rock ‘n roll can be pretty vulgar, and it can really ruin my mood to hear something I’m not expecting that offends my tastes. Other people can listen to what they want, but for me and my children, only acceptable and appropriate music will cut it. That is why, when I will have to put on the radio, I listen to Christian radio stations.

The used to be only one Christian radio station in town. It wasn’t bad, but it was a bit too contemporary for my taste. I like a mix of different Christian music. I like some Christian rock and Christian contemporary, but most of the stuff I’m really into is the older style of gospel music. I love bluegrass, African-American gospel music, and even older choir music. I like music where the emphasis is on the voices of the people singing in harmony, not the instrumentation or the fancy studio processing.

That is why it is such a blessing to be able to use Christian radio stations online. The great thing about the Internet is that, no matter what tastes you have, you can find something that will gratify them. My some can listen to Christian rock whenever he wants, and I can listen to all gospel all the time. There are Christian radio stations literally giving music away for free over the web to anyone with an Internet connection. It is almost too good to be true.

One of my very favorite ways to listen to Christian music online is through a website called Pandora. Basically, you put in a band or song you like and they give you other music with a similar sound. Although you are not guaranteed to only hear gospel music when you put in the name of a gospel band, that is most of what will come through the speakers. It lets you hear all kinds of new bands that play a similar style of music to the ones you already know you like. It is one of the best ways I know to discover new and interesting musicians. Even people I know who don’t like gospel music enjoy Pandora. As long as it is popular music from the last sixty years or so, you stand a pretty good chance of being able to find it on Pandora.
