Trying Times At Craft Festivals
I arranged the boxes filled with my girlfriend’s handmade jewelry in the back of the car. Due to the financial recession happening recently, things have been a bit difficult. It’s fortunate that my girlfriend and I got into a part-time business that made us a little extra money. As I got laid off, too, I could put more focus into our business endeavor.
You see, we’ve been going to select craft shows for two years now. Originally, I just wanted to see if we can make some money selling my girlfriend’s original jewelry line: Jewelry in the sense that it’s worn to adorn the body, because there’s nothing expensive about them.
But that’s why it works. As her handcrafted jewelry is made from pieces that are cheap, they saw quite a good market here in the Sunshine State. They went pretty well with beach wear, as it’s not a good idea to wear something pricey. There’s a good chance one will lost it in the waves.
My girlfriend has a knack for fashion and flair, as it happens. She may use cheap materials to make her jewelry, but I assure you, the final product doesn’t look cheap at all. Just take a look at the intricate patterns on the earrings, as well as the simple beauty of the bracelets.
I finish arranging all the boxes in the trunk, and I wait for her to come out of the house. We’re really pretty lucky in that we have a house to live in and a car that’s already paid in full. Even without a 9 to 5 paycheck, I have high hopes for our future.
And why shouldn’t I? Business has been good; once we figured out how to maneuver the ins and outs of the craft show business, we were set. Who knew all you had to do was go to a website? You would think it’s a cake walk, but it took a lot of patience and hard work to get this far.
