Earning Through Craft Fairs in a Financial Crisis
My life took a sharp turn lately. With the debilitating financial crisis well underway, I have found myself without a job. Fortunately, I have several things going for me: I have a car that I completely own, a house that I’ve inherited, and I have a part-time business that I share with my girlfriend.
We, my girlfriend and I, have been selling handcrafted jewelry at fairs and festivals for a couple of years now. We set up booths and sold them at craft shows. Back when we started, it was only a small income, but now, we’ve decided to use it for the time being as an everyday thing. Until the financial recession blows over, we are currently content with what we already have in our favor.
To sum it up, the inexpensive raw materials my girlfriend uses to make her handcrafted jewelry means that people will still be buying from us even with a thrifty attitude that comes from the recession. That we sell near the beaches of Florida also helps a lot; the place is laid-back and still has a carefree aura that relaxes the fear of spending the world has at the moment.
Until I am confident that I can pursue an office job again, I am content with selling the works of art that my girlfriend makes. This way, we also get to bond on an everyday basis, and thus our own relationship is strengthened. We get it done efficiently; she sees to it that the crafts are made, and that we have good relations with our fellow booth owners, while I make sure that everything is in place with the event organizers.
The challenges life throws at us do not hinder me; instead, it inspires me to keep moving forward. Whilst my other officemates who were laid off as well just bum around and relax, I’ve gotten back on my feet, doing what I can.
