Robert Dilts is an expert in this field. He refers to this type of language as sleight of mouth. He explains that language provides a map of our world and each person lives in her own world (pretty deep stuff, huh?).

He means that every person views the world in a unique way, and language is used to describe their world and even further to actually create their world.

So basically, what Dilts is saying is that when you talk about something in a certain way, you actually begin to think about that thing in that way. For example, if you are always saying things like, I hate school then you will hate school. You are actually making yourself hate school by saying you hate school.

So how is this connected with conversational hypnosis?

Just like you can make yourself hate school, you can also make other people hate school by constantly talking to them about how much you hate school.

Have you ever heard the phrase attitudes are contagious? Well, they are. And one reason they are is because the words people use both make and reflect their attitudes.

Words you hear infect your subconscious brain just like a virus you get infects your physical body. So if you hang around friends who use constantly use words to express that they hate school, then it is quite possible you will start to feel that way too. Not because you agree with their logical argument, but rather because the words they use to describe their feelings will penetrate your subconscious mind.

Words are truly powerful. And one reason is that the subconscious mind acts like a sponge and just soaks them up.

You may not realize it, but your subconscious mind is always aware of what is going on around you, as well as inside you. Most of your thinking actually happens in the subconscious, and the subconscious can be influenced by what you say, and by what other people say to you.

Proper lighting is just one step of keeping your reptile happy. In addition, proper lighting can keep your reptile healthy. Specific disease, such as osteoporosis, can sometimes be traced back to a problem with lighting. There are also studies that suggest that proper lighting plays a role in providing overall immunity for your pet’s health and well being.

Reptiles, like any other animal, need the twenty four hour cycle of light and dark (day and night) to keep them at their healthiest. How much light is needed? Studies have been made and recommendations have been based on these studies. For a good rule of thumb on this it is a good idea to look at the animals natural habitat for guidance. Lets say your pet is sub-tropical or tropical – then in the summer about fourteen hours of daylight and ten hours at night is pretty common. In the more temperate areas the requirement is eight hours of daylight (winter) to sixteen hours in the summer. However, using indoor lamps to duplicate natures light will encourage the animals to breed, but never use inadequate lighting to inhabit breeding using separate cages is recommended in that case.

The Vita-Lite lamp is one of the most popular lamps for use in reptile cages. It is made by a corporation called Duro Test and is the first choice of reptile owners, that is until 1990. It was called a full-spectrum light which produced light similar to natural sunlight by producing UV light. Today the term full spectrum, however, does not mean it produces UV light. Your reptile needs UV light so be careful and read the information to make sure you will be getting UV light for your pet.

There are two types of Ultraviolet reptile lighting: A and B. Ultraviolet A is blacklight. While there is no standard recommendation for this light in captive reptiles, it has been shown in the natural environment to promote social behaviors.

Ultraviolet light B is needed to aid animals in producing the needed Vitamin D for good health and also to help regulate exposure to Ultraviolet B, if they should retreat to a place that is shady and cool. Animals that are nocturnal have no need of Ultraviolet. Exposure to light is not part of their environment. There is, however, another (third) type of Ultraviolet light brown (Ultraviolet C) but it is harmful).

The human range of light which they can see, interestingly enough, is smaller than reptiles. Vision of reptiles extends to thermal spectrum and a consideration when considering light options for your pet. Provide you pet with the proper lighting to insure its good health and comfort. Less is better – do not use unnecessary lighting.

Ultraviolet lights can begin to dim without our being able to detect it, so be sure to replace ultraviolet lights every 9 to 12 months for your pet’s optimal health.

All light sources need to be placed to keep the reptile from direct contact with it. In some cases lights generate a tremendous amount of heat and you risk your pet or even yourself being burned if you do not take these precautions.
