If you write articles for a living, or if you use article marketing to sell your products online, you know that coming up with ideas for articles is not always so easy. You do have to keep writing those articles, though, so here are some tips for you to help you keep writing.

* Look at all the other articles out there and see what other people are writing about. Perhaps you don’t agree with the original author and you can spin off a new article on the same topic, but from the other side of the fence. That could get you a lot of good responses. Don’t just copy existing articles, of course. Use them to figure out ways you can create new, innovative takes on the same basic idea.

* Go to rentacoder, e-lance or other freelance sites and see what other people are asking for. Some people make their requests private and those you will not be able to see, but you can use the public requests to come up with your own ideas.

* Do some research on Google and other search engines and see what other people are saying and asking about the topics. You will see all kinds of discussions in forums and Q&A sites that will tell you what people want to know. Just don’t get too distracted, though. You want to spend more time writing than reading, and you know how addictive online research can get.

* Ask other people. Don’t rule out the input that your friends and family can have. They’re not an inexhaustible resource, but they could have a new perspective on your writing that you may not have thought about. They also know a lot about various topics, and could spur some ideas for research.

* Ask yourself what you’re interested in and see if you can tie it into your niche. We all know what topics we enjoy, so why not write about them. There are a lot of other areas that you might not have written in yet, even if you’ve already done articles in your niche. You can always find a way to tie it into your original topic. Even if it’s a lesser known area, you could still get a good response. Maybe people just haven’t found out about it yet! Remember to include new subtopics, too.

* List things you know about. These might not be the same as things you’re interested in, though there will certainly be some overlap. Almost everything has something they can talk about doing or explain how to do, and how-to articles are some of the most popular ones around. This works really well if it’s a slightly unusual topic that you’re capable of explaining in plain language.

* What do you do in your spare time? Do you read enough? Spend some time reading all kinds of material. Magazines, online articles, fiction, biographies and others could all give you resources to help you write. It is a known fact that people who read write better. And besides, it’s fun too!
