This genre is a phrase used loosely to describe the albums released in the early to late 70′s by artists which have become great and therefore “classics”. These bands are so famous everyone still listens to them. The Majority of these bands were very original and would become influential on many other bands for decades to come. No matter what era you were born in since the 70′s almost ANY band you listen to is influenced by artists from this era. So even if you are now only in your teens and you feel your favorite band sounds unique you can bet your bottom dollar that they were influenced by a legend from this era. The seventies was a great time for music because it truly was a ground breaking time for rockers Nothing was (stolen|copied|rehashed and everyone had their own sound even though, as always with music, the 70′s was in flux.

Rehoboth Art League (RAL) was created to encourage interest and participation in cultural and artistic activities by Louise Chambers Corkran on 1938. Corkran family made there home at the Homestead adjacent to the League grounds, there family home was made by Peter Marsh on 1743. On 1978 the homestead was purchase by the league. The home became the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the oldest houses in Rehoboth Beach and has been restored to provide additional gallery space.

The RAL is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization. It is supported by membership dues, contributions, fundraising events, gifts, investments, and grants, including funds from the Delaware Division of the Arts, the Sussex County Council, and the Delaware Humanities Forum. Your support, in addition to membership dues and tuition, is welcome.

The Rehoboth Art League, with the people of Delaware and its visitors, encourages artists and arts education, and sponsors exhibits and programs that reflect the diversity of the community in an historic setting and in partnership with other organizations.

Located on three-and-a-half acres in one of the most beautiful sections of Rehoboth Beach is where the RAL has excellent exhibition and studio space. RAL holds a permanent collection of works of art and reaches out into the community to teach art.

Michelle Marshall, featured artist for the spring exhibitions will be exhibiting Coastal Landscapes: Colorful Visions in the Corkran Gallery. On May 2, 2009 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM The Rehoboth Art League will present their Spring Exhibitions.

The origin of the name Kissimmee had different stories on how it got its name. One story is that a Spanish map in 1752 called Kissimmee Cacema, Cacema is the area where Kissimmee is now located. Some say that it is a modern name of an old Indian tribe; an author links the name to a village of the Jororo. Some historians trace back the name to on the mission group from Span that tried to convert the native Indians to Christianity. The name of that mission group was Atissimi.

Allendale community was the original community of Kissimmee where there was a small trading post on the northern bank of Lake Tohopekaliga. Hamilton Disston, the owner of Disston Saw Company in Philadelphia purchased four million acres of marshland and plains after the Civil War. It was in 1845 that Florida was granted statehood.

Hamilton Disston was born August 23, 1844, in Philadelphia. He worked in his father’s saw manufacturing plant until he signed up to join the troops fighting in the Civil War. Hamilton Disston purchased four million acres of marshland shortly after the Civil War. Included in his purchase was the small trading post of Allendale, which was eventually renamed Kissimmee. Disston wished to drain the area surrounding Kissimmee and deepen the Kissimmee River, so products could be shipped into the Gulf of Mexico and beyond. Many steamboats passed through the area with cargoes of cypress lumber and sugar cane.

On 1997 Kissimmee received a Main Street designation from Bureau of Historic Preservation under Main Street Florida, located in Tallahassee and the National Main Street Center in Washington, D.C. The purpose was to promote economic development in Kissimmees Main Street area by bringing in patrons, new business, and assisting existing businesses to flourish while preserving the historic feel of the downtown area.

On March 21, 2009 from 11:00AM to 5:00 PM Kissimmee will be celebrating their 125th birthday at Kissimmee Main Street. The admission fee for this festival is free for the public. This 125th Kissimmee birthday celebration will also honor the citys cattle ranching heritage. There will be live entertainment from the local and national musician, unique games, different handmade crafts and the 23rd Annual meatloaf Cook-off.
