The Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Historical Society will be holding their annual Sugar Maple Festival this April 17, April 18 and April 19, 2009. The festival will be held at the beautiful downtown area of Bellbrook, Ohio. The festival kicks off on April 17 6:00 P.M., on April 18 it will start from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. then on April 19 the festival starts by noon then officially closes at 6:00 P.M.

The Sugar Maple Festival theme for this year is Once Upon A Time. The Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Historical Society is showcasing the Bellbrook Museum in accordance with the theme. All the booths will be found in front of the museum to serve as a gateway to the guide tours. The tours are done in hope that our history will be brought closer to us.

The admission fee for this festival is $1.00 or $5.00 for 6 tickets. There will be raffle draws at the booths and for members there will be a water color painting done by local artist, Donna L. Gibson. At the booths there will be booklets about the history of Bellbrook and there will be maps describing each site. The famous Sugar Maple cookies will also be available at the booths.

The Bellbrook Historical Society Tour is the first annual walking tour of the beautiful Bellbrook downtown area. Over the past 200 years the Bellbrook Old Village have gather a lot of history and stories while developing into the Bellbrook that we know. The Bellbrook Historical Society hopes that you will learn more about the Bellbrook history and at the same time help preserve the essence of Bellbrooks past by joining the walking tour.

The Sugar Maple Festival will also feature different activities that children from all ages will be able to join and have fun. For this year there will be new activities like the dinosaur dig, fish pond, Plinko, Lucky Key Game, and a Tatoo Parlor. But the old time favorites will still be there like the hula hoop and jump rope contests.

Sutherland was thought to be named after Duke of Sutherland, who visited these parts after landing at Tarpon Springs in 1887. Local pioneers dismiss this coincidence, pointing out that the name Sutherland is a shortening of Southern Land and Development Company, the group which originally platted the community in 1888.

In 1925, the downtown area, whose main street is Florida Avenue, was renamed Palm Harbor. This district is the heart of an unincorporated part of Pinellas County with nearly 100,000 residents. Florida Avenue flows down to the “Harbor” at Pop Stansell Park, our connection to the Gulf of Mexico. Since 1888, Palm Harbor has gone through three name changes and several “past lives” as a pioneer town, a farming center, a developer’s dream, a resort town and a college town. Historic downtown Palm Harbor, once the heart of daily community activity is stepping up to this position again.

The Old Palm Harbor Main Street, Inc was established in 1999 to promote the historic preservation, protection and use of the Palm Harbors Historic District, including commercial, civic and religious enterprises and residences. This is a a non-profit organization, values our community heritage and those characteristics that make Old Palm Harbor a special place.

On March 21, 2009 – March 22, Old Palm Harbor Main Street Art & Craft Festival will be held again. There will be handmade crafts for all types of home dcor and jewelries that you can choose from. There will be different and unique cuisine to taste and enjoy.
