Cuba Crossing: Hard Whitman gets to be embroiled in a structure to slaughter Fidel Castro. Filmed in Key West, Florida, and a minimum of the landscape is pretty. Cast includes Stuart Whitman, Robert Vaughn, Caren Kaye, Raymond St. Jacques, Woody Strode, Sybil Danning, Albert Salmi, and Michael Gazzo. (90 minutes, 1980)
Rhapsody in Blue: Hollywood biography of George Gershwin is largely fiction, although comes off better than most other composer biographies, seizing Gershwin’s excitement for his work, and some of his central clashes. Highlight is essentially complete behavior of title work. Cast includes Robert Aida, Joan Leslie, Alexis Smith, Oscar Levant, Charles Coburn, Hazel Scott, and Al Jolson. (139 minutes, 1945)
Heartland Reggae: Shoddy documentary of ’78 show remembering a visit to Jamaica by Haile Selassie. The music makes it worth watching. Cast includes Bob Marley and the Wailers, Peter Tosh, and Althea and Donna. (87 minutes, 1980)
I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead: (2004-U.S.British) C-I02 Abrupt death of a youthful want to be hustler brings his brother, a prior local crime boss out of seclusion, looking for justice. Doesnt inspire and isnt especially fascinating, and takes its time getting there, to boot. This film is a disheartening reunion for the director and megastar of Croupier. Cast includes Clive Owen, Charlotte Rampling, and Malcolm McDowell. (102 minutes, 2004)
Rollerball: Careless Klein follows his high school football teammate (LL Cool J) to a Middle Eastern nation to play roller ball. The film only comes to life near the end with some good songs, containing one by Spade Cooley. Cast includes Chris Klein, Jean Reno, LL Cool J, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Naveen Andrews, Oleg Taktarov, David Hemblen, and Paul Heyman. (98 minutes, 2002)
The Thief of Bagdad: Fairbanks is unusually ballistic and ingratiating as ever in this dull Arabian Days pantomime, laid out to inject a real sense of marvel. Relatively long, however by no means boring; one of the most imaginative of all quiet films, with incredible sets by William Cameron Menzies. Cast includes Douglas Fairbanks, Julanne Johnston, Anna Might Wong, Sojin, Snitz Edwards, Charles Belcher, and Brandon Hurst. (155 minutes, 1924)
Paint It Black: Roaming, disheartening thriller with Rossovich a sculptor who’s tore off by his lover, craft trader Kirkland, then victimized by nut ball Savant. Cast includes Rick Rossovich, Sally Kirkland, Martin Landau, Julie Carmen, Doug Savant, Peter Frechette, and Jason Bernard. (101 minutes, 1989)
Lilies of the Field: A “little” film that made excellent, triumphing Poitier an Oscar as handyman who helps construct chapel for Skala and German-talking nuns. Cast includes Sidney Poitier, Lilia Skala, Lisa Mann, Isa Crino, and Stanley Adams. (93 minutes, 1963)
Batman Forever: There are two evil forces combining forces in an attempt to destroy Batman. Two-Face, the former D.A. Harvey Dent, who has been disfigured in a courtroom accident, and the Riddler, a disgruntled former employee of Wayne Enterprises, team up to try to take Batman down. They are using a mind control device to gain control of the entire city, so they can work their evil plans.
A phrase like “Rent DVD” might get a good result. If that one doesn’t work try another one. You should punch in “Watch New Movies Online” for another set of results.
