LCD TVs – A buyers guide
An LCD television will fit where larger televisions can not. The term LCD is an abbreviation of Liquid Crystal Diode. If you want a flat panel TV, you can select from a LCD TV or plasma TV. It is in the electronics that the LCD differs from the plasma TV.
How is an LCD TVs picture created?
LCD TVs come in many variations. The first being the LCD panel, which isn’t only used in TVs. The technology in LCD TVs is also used in various technologies such as microwave ovens and stereo systems. The technology used in LCD TVs is known as ‘Twisted Nematic’. It is a crystalline structure that reacts to electrical currents in a manner that can be harnessed to produce a picture. The structure untwists depending on the voltage passing through. The ‘Twisted Nematic’ crystals are squashed between many layers of polarized glass enabling different amounts of light to pass through and it’s this that forms the TV picture you see.
If you are considering buying a flat TV panel smaller than a 37″, many would advise you to buy an LCD TV. Larger LCD panels tend to suffer from a little picture blur, you will find plasma TV technology the better way to go in this situation. LCD TV’s are more resistant to burn in so if you’re a video gamer or have the TV in a bright room, LCD is the best bet. Most LCD TVs are (HDTV) the term used for High Definition.
How Long Will it Last?
The life-expectancy of a LCD TV is much greater than the conventional CRT TV’s we have become accustomed to so they are an asute purchase and one that will provide you and your family with many happy viewing hours.
