How to Start Your Own Cheap Nintendo DS Collection
The Nintendo DS and its counterpart the Nintendo DS Lite, are two of the bestselling video game consoles of all time, running neck and neck with the Playstation, Xbox, and even big brother himself–the Nintendo Wii. These handheld game systems may be small, but their sales have been mighty.
In December 2002 Sony sold 2.7 million Playstation 2 video game consoles. In December 2007, Nintendo sold 3.0 million Nintendo DS Lites which broke the record for most sales during a period of 30 days. These numbers were collected by an association known as the NPD Group which researches marketing numbers for a large number of companies.
The Nintendo DS can be purchased in 12 different colors which may explain why so many people like to buy them. You can also take the unit anywhere which is also a nice feature. There are so many choices available that many people like to collect the many different consoles. That way they can keep certain units in prime condition and use others to play games on.
Don’t you wish you’d saved that old Atari? I know I do! If you had saved all those old video games you played when you were little you would probably have a large collection today that would be worth a lot of money.
There are also many different special edition Nintendo DS consoles which makes them even more popular and appealing to collectors. These include consoles developed to promote certain movies like Pirates of the Carribean or those produced to commemorate the release of classic video games such as the Legend of Zelda, Mario vs. Donkey Kong and Final Fantasy.
Besides advertising new video games and movies, some Nintendo DS consoles are created to increase awareness for certain causes like breast cancer. The Pink Ribbon special edition unit is one such example. Whenever one of these units is sold Nintendo donates a certain percentage of the sale to the Susan G. Komen organization to help raise funds for research.
Remember when the first Nintendo Home Entertainment System debuted in 1985? Everybody and their brother was playing Super Mario Brothers. To celebrate the popularity of the video game that started it all, Nintendo developed a Red Mario DS Lite console that is available for sale along with the New Super Mario Brothers video game. This console is very popular with collectors.
If you should happen to find any of these rare and unusual Nintendo DS consoles while browsing the flea markets and thrift shops I would definitely snatch them up. Certain units were produced in limited numbers such as the Legend of Zelda console. Only 1000 are out in circulation. Other special edition consoles such as the Pink Ribbon are easier to find because they continue to be produced and manufactured. However, if you want to have the most impressive collection of Nintendo DS consoles in your town be sure to purchase whatever units you can find before they’re no longer sold or available.
