Leonard Cohen: Live In London – Hallelujah, Indeed!
The famous singer and also songwriter (for those who didn’t know already) Leonard Cohen came out of retirement in 2008 and gave a world tour (which clearly pleased a lot of his fans both old and new). This was his first tour in 15 years for all of those fans who missed seeing him in concert, the good news is that the DVD release of his London appearance at the O2 Arena on July 17th, 2008 is now available. The DVD has 26 songs, including his most well known and best hits like ; Hallelujah, The Future, Everybody Knows, and Dance Me To The End of Love. He is like fine wine, getting better with age.
Watching and listening to Cohen is a treat for any music lover. Even though he is 73 years old, the changes in his voice have just made him better than ever. He now has a rich smokeiness to him that is like music to the ears.
Leonard Cohen’s backup musicians and background singers are amazing, and he really enjoys himself during this performance. He even jokes a little during the performance which the audience really appreciates. He really makes the whole setting more intimate.
A 2-disc CD of this concert is also available but so many fans like the DVD more because it has great quality and camera work and also catches his calm presence. Each song gets better and better and he really draws in more and more fans.
In this day and age of the over-hyped and over-produced sounds of the hip hop generation where intimate songs and meaningful lyrics are a dying breed, having this performance of Leonard Cohen documented for posterity is all the more enjoyable. He stands as an icon to the glory and the majesty of the written word, and has the uncompromising ability to match those words to melodies that can uplift and inspire. For anyone unfamiliar with this man and his legendary work, Leonard Cohen: Live In London is a revelation.
