The first Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival was on April of 1972 a year after the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival Board. The sponsors for the first festival were the Ponchatoula Jaycees and the Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce. In which three of its members were made a board member in the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival Board.

The first Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival was held at the first block of North 6th Street with only 11 booths. The two day festival was kicked off by a baseball game between the Southeastern Louisiana University and Wisconsin State. Then in the afternoon there was a parade through Ponchatoula. Coming from different parts of the state there were 65 units who joined the parade. It was estimated of about 15,000 who joined the first festival.

The Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival Board vision was to hold a festival where the vendors will only be allowed for non-profit and charitable organizations. For the past 30 years The Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival has been the only fund raising festival. The Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival is also considered as the second largest free festival in the Louisiana celebration, it came second to the Mardi Gras.

The Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival will start on April 3 up to April 5, 2009. For April 3 the festival will open from 4:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., April 4 opens from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. then on April 5 the festival open at 7:00 A.M. and officially closes the festival at 6:00 P.M. The organizers will not allow pets, ice chests, glass bottles, cans, tents, large umbrellas to be brought in the fair grounds.

For the past 27 years the festival had an Annual Strawberry Strut so you can expect the same activity will be available for this year. There will be rides like the Expo Wheel, Clown Town, Dragon Wagon and many more that kids and adults will enjoy. There will be a live performance from local and national performers.

Decorative glass is forever attractive and I repeatedly think that glass bits and pieces are fine to give or to accept as presents, hence with this in mind, I decided to write an article about it.

Your first question will probably be what sort of things do I need to get to do this? Will they be expensive? Does it require many items? Do not panic, this is not going to cost you a fortune. You don’t actually need that much! So let’s go ahead with your essential requirements!

Initially you will require a vase made from glass and, if I were you, I would begin with a little one for a test run. You can go on to better items at a later time. As for additional items that you will need, some gold cerne relief outliner, tracing paper, pencil, a palette, a glaze that is not shiny, liquid crystal glass paint and a pair of soft brushes, sizes 3 & 4.

It is crucial that before you even think just about painting any glass, that you make certain that it is dirt free. Usually a solvent is meant for this, so I would suggest white spirit.
