Indianapolis Colts are working towards their ring
The Indianapolis Colts are well known for the entertainment that they provide for their fans. In fact, they were the first professional football team to have a cheerleading squad and a marching band. Whether you are going for the game or the entertainment, Colts games are not something you want to miss.
The Indianapolis Colts did not start their career as such. The team started in Miami and was known as the Miami Seahawks. Unfortunately, at this time, the team was not doing well, and bankruptcy was right around the corner. An investment group, from Baltimore, noticed this unfortunate event and was there to help them out.
This investment group not only bought the team, but also moved them to Baltimore and nearly changed the identity. In the 50s, the AAFC and the NFL merged, which moved the Baltimore Colts from the AAFC to an NFL franchise. New colors, new city, new name, and a new league should prove to be a good change for the team.
Unfortunately, this was not true. The team won only one game in 1950, and dissolved a year later, in 1951. Baltimore fans supported their team, and would do anything to keep the Colts alive, but it was not up to them. However, the NFL had a change of heart and challenged the city to sell 15,000 tickets in 6-weeks; if they could do this their team could be reinstated as a professional football team.
Within less than five weeks, over 15,000 Baltimore Colts tickets were sold and the franchise was re-instated. The Dallas Texans relocated – per the NFL – to Baltimore. Management agreed to the Texans keeping their colors, but were adamant about keeping their name – the Baltimore Colts. The Colts were left to start fresh with new colors but a touch of home with the name, nothing could go wrong now.
Change was not over for the Colts as controversy and drama began again in the 80s. The Baltimore Colts and Orioles shared a stadium; there was no room or financials to support a second stadium. This problem began to affect many aspects of the game, so much so that the Colts began to look elsewhere.
A deal was made with Indiana, who was willing to not only provide the team with a home field of their own, but the financial backing they needed as well. In 1984, the Baltimore Colts became the Indianapolis Colts, and played their first game as such. This was the beginning of a bright future for the team – right.
In 1998, the Colts welcomed a new quarterback – Peyton Manning. For the next 10 years, the team worked hard at making a name for themselves. The Colts ended their ’08 season with a 12-4 record and an appearance in the playoffs as a Wild Card. Tickets quickly became the most needed / wanted item around as fans were not going to miss seeing this in person.
An amazing end to last season only opens the new season with adrenaline and opportunities. The Indianapolis Colts are ready to storm the field and knock down anyone who gets in their way of the Super Bowl. Fans are so thrilled about the new season that season tickets are gone – even before spring training is under way!
