Forget Cable and Watch TV On Your PC

by Aaron Piertzen

Most people are trying to save money these days. With cell phone bills, internet fees, and insurance rates being pricey, it makes sense to cut back on things that you might not need. Cable television might be one of those luxuries that you feel that you can afford to lose. However, you don’t have to miss your shows entirely if you have an internet connection and a computer.

Several TV websites like ABC will let you watch their shows online for free and you don’t even have to download any special software to do it. But there are some issues with this. Some of the websites only show the latest broadcasts, which means you cannot go back and watch ones you have missed. Others will only let you watch if you live in the USA. This can really be an issue if you are in another country and want to catch up on the latest episodes.

You can also download some shows on iTunes. They cost about $1 to download, and you have to download the iTunes application, but once you have done this, the shows are you to keep. You can watch them over and over, even if you are in another country.

There are also some websites that offer software that allow you to receive all of the cable channels right there on your computer. These programs charge you a small fee, usually around $50. However, once you pay it you don’t have to pay it again. These programs are known as “streaming-media.” They basically decode the airwaves that the television stations transmit and put them right onto your computer in picture format.

The good thing about most of these programs is that you can download them and install them on various computers. So you can have the program on your PC in your office, as well as on your laptop for when you’re on the road.

There are a couple of downsides to using your PC as a TV. For one thing, PC screens are generally smaller. Some people hook their computers up to their televisions in order to alleviate this. It can also be uncomfortable to watch TV from your office chair.

It might be difficult to give a program your full attention if you have the Internet running. There are a lot of distractions on the Internet that might keep you from watching the program at hand. It could be hard watching “Desperate Housewives” when you are updating your Facebook status.

However, when you are watching TV on your PC you normally don’t have to worry about commercials. There are many sites where you can download TV shows and movies without the commercial breaks.

Windows Vista offers a DVR that some people claim works better than the ones that cable companies currently offer. You can add an HDTV antenna and record your favorite shows right to your computer. You can also streamline shows from ABC, Fox, and other popular channels. Doing this could possibly cut down on the need for cable.

The best thing about watching features on your computer is that it costs either nothing, or a lot less than basic cable. Even if you do choose to download fee system or software, the upfront fee that you pay is still a lot less than what you would pay for cable.

Chakra Healing A Non-Invasive and Natural Healing Process

by Anne-Marie Laureaut

What is Chakra According to the ancient Hindus?

A chakra is the human bodys energy axis that receives, interacts with and conveys life force between an individual and his/her environment. Its direct English translation means a spinning wheel. Furthermore, ancient Hindu writings reveal that of the bodys 88,000 chakra points, there are seven which are considered of primary importance.

These seven major chakras are root/base chakra, sex/navel chakra, stomach/solar plexus chakra, heart chakra, throat chakra, brow/third eye chakra, and the crown chakra. These major chakra points in our body take in and transmit energies to and from the general surroundings including the people and elements around us. As such, they directly influence and affect an individuals corporeal, psychological, intellectual/emotional and spiritual/mystical activities.

One interesting aspect of the explanation and characterization of chakras is the uncanny similarity reached by both the Hindus and Chinese that they are an integral part of mans conscious and subconscious experience. Add to this the fact that both civilizations use the same theory for promoting a healthy and successful life of an individual.

The chakra unceasing interaction with our body and the environment even during our sleep gives them a direct influence over our physical structure and appearance including our bodily processes, health and our emotions. A glitch of any one of the major chakras is an indicator that something is wrong with our physical/emotional health which may directly or indirectly be noticeable.

The reason for this is because each of the seven major chakras is linked to a corresponding endocrine gland in our body. Any imbalance in the function of a chakra affects our physical and emotional processes and manifests a disturbance in the usual pattern of activity or behavior through the endocrine gland linked to it.

Maintaining Chakra Balance Using the above as our starting point, we can then safely conclude that most of our major illnesses and ailments are chakra related. Although there may not be enough physical manifestations of the illness or imbalance (yet) there may be emotions and concerns from way back our childhood that affect us today physically, spiritually or emotionally.

Forgotten or repressed emotional baggage due to traumatic experiences in the past is one of the major causes of chakra imbalance. Since most people have a habit of burying bad memories in their subconscious, we are unaware that these buried emotional toxins have an effect on our bodies at the cellular level. It is therefore necessary to come to terms with our emotional baggage and resolve them in order to maintain the proper balance of our chakra and heal our physical self in the process.

Chakra Healing is Good for Our Body We can directly influence our chakras and their functions and through them our health and lives by employing techniques such as Reiki healing, aromatherapy, color therapy, chakra balancing with the aid of a pendulum, crystals or gemstones.

There are a number of ways through which we can directly influence the functions of our bodys major chakras. From simple techniques such as aromatherapy, breathing exercises, physical fitness, or with the use of crystals and gemstones we can achieve balance and harmony.

Other methodologies of chakra healing are meditation (keeping the mind focused on an object of thought or awareness for a certain period of time), guided visualization (done with the aid of audio tapes or CDs to promote natural healing and relaxation techniques to reduce stress, promote relaxation and harness the power of the mind).

Another important factor to consider is that although our chakras can not be seen nor touched, they work on their own to support our body. We have to keep them healthy too.

The human body has to be healthy and fed properly in order for us to have balanced chakras. There are foods that help maintain the balance of each of the seven primary chakras.

The first energy point, the root, is nourished by tubers and food rich in protein. The navels energy point on the other hand is benefited by our diet of sweet fruits and nuts while our energy point in our solar plexus chakra gets nourishment form wheat products, dairy and cereals.

Our energy points that affect the heart and throat are sustained when we eat green, leafy vegetables, drink plenty of liquid, green tea and fruit juices.

On the other hand, our third eye chakra is get nourishment when we eat blueberries and grapes and drink wine or grape juice. It is equally important to nourish this chakra as it makes feelings and senses sharper.

The spiritual and emotional center (our crown chakra) of the human body however does not need nutrients but requires detoxification by means of fasting.

With these simple methods of influencing our bodys energy points (chakras), we are at the same time also influencing our physical wellness towards a more responsive way of life completely with our body and our environment. They are very simple ways but very effective at the same time in order for us to achieve a goal of physical and emotional wellness.

Get Into The Game – LEGO Batman

by Patrick Daniels

I don’t know why it is so, but I never seem to get tired of any game with the word Lego in it. I have enjoyed, along with my kids, both Lego Star Wars games as well as the Lego Indiana Jones game. Now, with Lego Batman, I think that they have gone in the right direction again.

The graphics and colors are the best looking in the series. Game play is basically the same, but since their is no reason to change this, it works out well.

It is an appropriate game for all ages, and any level gamer. It is a good game for younger players, that no bother about Batman, and older players have have been life long fans.

There are numerous extras and hidden characters. Holding true to the LEGO game play, you have the ability to switch out characters making for a fun two player experience. All your classic Batman characters are in the game, and there are many not so well known characters from the comic books included.

The time put into development, comes through during the game play. It is also not the last game in the LEGGO series. I have recently read that the LEGGO franchise is working on a Rock Band game, with LEGGO characters. It is a way to introduce the music genre to a younger audience. LEGGO games are not extremely difficult, yet they are fun. Which is why I like them so much, they are the perfect game to play with my children and both of us truly enjoy the game play.

Welsh Band Returns With New Pop Album: “Dark Nights Light Years” by Super Furry Animals

by Patrick Daniels

Super Furry Animals are a Welsh pop band who draw comparisons with Flaming Lips, Beck, and Kraftwerk, among others. But their style is made unique by their combination of heavy guitars, tricked out effects, melodic vocals,a nd psychedelic buzz. While their last two releases were pretty mellow, this new one called “Dark Days Light Years” is decidedly groovy.

As usual, the SFA employ a lot of repetitious sounds, hoping to gain mind control of their listeners through hypnosis. Dark Days/Light Years is a kaleidoscopic of sounds and styles, ranging from funky dance beats to thick guitar laden powerhouse ballads. Even if you had never heard of the Super Furry Animals in your whole life, you could easily unknowingly be drawn in by seeing this album at a local record shop. The album cover heavily emulates the sixties psychedlia of the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine, while track titles like Crazy Naked Girls and the Very Best of Neil Diamond are simply too enticing to resist!

“The Very Best Of Neil Diamond” sounds like Diamond was discovered in Bollywood with a sitar. I can just imagine the video with sitars and bellydancers. This and other tracks on the album live up to the quirkiness of their titles.

Another track, Lliwiau Llachar sounds like The Beach Boys on even more acid. If the Beach Boys had ever had a really Sgt. Pepper period, this track would have been on it. The track would also be great for old horror films. While the young teenagers danced and played, enjoying a psychedelic romp at the beach, this track would be playing. With it’s dramatic guitar riffs, the album’s first track, Crazy Naked Girls, would be perfect for the part of the movie where the monster comes out of the water to eat the teenagers.

Track two is “Mt.” This is the Super Furry Animals’ take on psychedelic folk music! No matter what these guys do, it comes out right – no false notes (no pun intended.) After all these years, they have perfected this kind of psych-pop. It’s the sure cure for musical boredom and record collection stagnation.

Sports As A Way Of Development For Kids

by Anika Woods

No matter how much the adage ‘all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’ is used or heard, its truth never gets old. Kids need to develop in a balanced way so that they are able to deal with all the challenges and demands that life will later put on their shoulders.

Learning should be encouraged in a wide a field as possible in this regard and sports provide one of the most versatile and dynamic platforms for this to happen. The misconception that reigns in some places that sports participation in children should be restricted is one that causes a lot damage to the way they grow up.

Sports as a field contains a lot of activities especially for the kids that if applied in the right way will allow kids to learn valuable lessons about life. It is not uncommon for kids to extend the discipline, creativity, hard work and team building skills attained in engaging in sports activities to other areas of their lives such as school work.

The thing is, sports especially at children’s level is carried out in a simple way in a friendly and healthy environment that allows kids to let themselves go and come out of their small cocoons to discover what lies in the outside world.

The simplicity of sports does not, however, compromise its ability to provide the necessary learning and development necessary for balanced growth. It is indeed this same simplicity that causes the lessons learnt to stick into the kids psyches to be used later on in life. How important therefore that the lessons adopted through sports be positive ones rather than negative ones. The ball is now therefore firmly set in the courts of parents, teachers and guardians of children to recognize the awesome potential of sports in developing children to be upstanding members of the world community.

Through sports kids learn to share with others, the power of team work and positive competition can be fostered in the muddy soccer and hockey fields that the classroom can only fantasize about. Through competitive games and sports kids can learn what it takes to win and how to deal with unexpected outcomes in life. The beauty of sports is that through its many intense activity, interaction among kids themselves and also with adults is essential.

Kids can learn how to express themselves and respect authority, traits that can be hard to develop in adults. Starting them on such at a young age will reap fruits that will be the pride of all.

Sports activities come in many forms. Mainstream sports like baseball, soccer, basketball, hockey and tennis to name but five are used to instill the traits described above. With creativity, learning activities can be converted into fun sporting activities. Music and art and crafts are among the best candidates for this. It’s high time the true potential of sports be tapped. Take a cue from Tiger Woods and the Williams sisters.

Getting Started With Your Radio Controlled Helicopter

by Cathy Robertson

Radio controlled helicopters are real fun devices to have. A perfect hobby for those who love flying. With all the modern softwares and gadgets today its become even easier to start flying your radio controlled helicopter. First of all you need to get a simulator that teaches you how to fly your radio controlled helicopter. This is a windows based program and can be plugged into the USB ports with an interlinked transmitter.

Its better you learn using this program before you get a model of your own .It helps you reduce or rather avoid any crashes. The next thing you have to do after you are sure of your flying abilities is getting yourself a helicopter. You have two basic categories to choose from ” Nitro or an electric. For beginners a nitro model will do because its larger and much easier to work with as compared to an Electric model.

With a nitro Model you can choose from sizes 30, 40, 50, 70, 90. To start with you can go with a low budget 30 size. Another low budget models that you can use to start off with are Compass Model or Esky, this model is very easy to use, easily available at any hobby store and you can practice in your very own living room. After you have gained a little experience you can buy the Compass Model Knight 50 Sport, the most durable models in the market.

Once you got the model that you wan the next step is to get all the equipment that you need which is a must to fly your radio controlled helicopter. These equipments include your servos, gyros, transmitters, tail blades, main blades, paddles and field equipments. Your transmitter has to have at least six channels. You can try the new Spread Spectrum available from companies like Futaba. This works on 24 GHz and it does not interfere with any other radio systems, so you dont have to worry about any interference. This transmitter will cost you around $350 to $500, but its definitely worth an investment because you can use this for a lifetime. Next coming to your servos.

Servos are actually devices that convert the electrical signals into mechanical actions. The servo that you get depends on the type of model you have. Generally all models require four servos, one to control the tail rotor pitch and three to control the swash plate. You will need three similar servos for the swash plates and a high speed one for the tail rotor. A gyro is necessary to control the tail rotor. You can get both the servos and the gyros for around $250.Anothe device needed is the blades which are usually available in the kit, but if they are not you can choose from wooden, fiberglass and carbon fiber blades. Next you will need your field equipment which includes the glow igniter, starter wand and motor and a fuel pump. All these items are sold in a kit and can be purchased easily depending again on your model.

Owning a radio controlled helicopter can be a lot of fun but learning how to fly one takes a lot of patience and hard work. Its a skill game.

Bob Dylan Takes You “Together Through Life” On His Brand New Studio Album

by Patrick Daniels

Bob Dylans latest album, his 33rd studio produced effort, is a folksy, bluesy, country rock collection thats a worthy successor to the Billboard topping album Modern Times, from 2006. Even though most of the songs dwell on the pain and despair of modern life, the albums somewhat hopeful title, Together Through Life, seems oddly appropriate. The relaxed, occasionally swingy arrangements, impart were in this together feel, and subtly indicate that down doesnt necessarily have to mean out.

The album has been met with acclaim from both critics and fans. Dylan, at age 66, is at least as relevant as he was decades ago. It matters not when he misses a note here and there, as it has never mattered, when the message resonates as it does. He hasn’t lost any of his voice – nor his passion or ability to sing the truth. It’s hard to think of any of today’s flash-in-the-pan pop artists who will still be relevant in fifty years.

Dylan produced “Together Through Life,” as he did his two prior releases. He actually had gone into the studio with his road band just to record one track for the soundtrack to the film “My Own Love Song.” That track was “Life Is Hard,” and the session was so effortless that it ended up providing the material for this entire new album.

While the material is serious – despair, pain, loneliness – you can read the casual, natural, somewhat playful mood of the session. It doesn’t detract from the importance of the message, but lightens the mood just enough to keep it from being too dark.

Dylan had some help on this album. Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter co-wrote many of the tracks, although Dylan composed the music himself. Adding to his regular band were David Hidalgo of Los Lobos, whose accordion added a south of the border flair, and Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers on guitar. This makes for a full album with no filler, and a clear value to the fans.
