Top fishermen know that by exploiting the way your target fish feed at any time of day or night or time of the season, they can reliably improve their catches and keep catching more consistently than the average angler. This is one very significant bait and rig subject which is neglected by the majority of anglers. The successful use of very fine ground baits is one way to induce the filter feeding type of modes whilst on the way to the angler inducing feeding on larger food items such as boilies for instance.

You can exploit various feeds and fine liquid additives with particles in suspension to induce this kind of feeding, although there are many endless options for doing this effectively and yeast and liver powders and corn steep liquor and various less refined fish oils are obvious examples to begin with. Fish can taste their food using taste buds located in their pharyngeal cavity so this form of feeding is not sight oriented but taste oriented. Using induced filter and pump filter (gulping type feeding,) fish can get the nutritional stimulation of your free and hook baits without actually touching your baits but then having filter fed on them will often be in a far more excited physiological and mental state when they actually physically feed on them and carp filter feed predominantly in turbid waters.

Filter feeding is very interesting because fish like carp can gain masses of nutrients to promote their growth in safe ways without eating your baits. But they can also derive nutrients from your baits in suspension and in solution as they leach out amino acids, nucleic acids, oils and slats for instance, without actually eating your baits. So it makes sense to drive fish into a feeding frenzy mode as far as possible by inciting this natural feeding mode.

It is natural for fish like bream, roach, carp, tench, barbel, and even bass and trout, to filter feed at times by capturing various sized food particles within their branchial sieves. However there this sieving can be adjusted in order to capture patches of fine particles or to capture larger single items and the characteristic speed of this feeding can vary between species. In the case of carp which are termed slow suction feeders, although they can suck up finer particles from one head length away from it at surprisingly high velocities indeed.

The chemical senses of carp are often mentioned in relation to bait, but the role of the carp lateral line is far less mentioned. The electrical sensitivity of this area in food detection is often severely over-looked by anglers seeking to improve their baits and it is so finely tuned it can detect the tiny movements of zooplankton. As carp are primarily filter feeders using slower suction motions compared to other fish, it makes sense to exploit this by using fine ground baits and smaller hook baits too!

Although filter feeding modes in carp reflect their most dominant small sized natural foods you can overcome their preoccupation with these to get them to feed on your fishing baits by also using fine particulate feeds and smaller baits at least to begin with in your ground baits, method mixes, stick mixes etc. Many carp in pressured fisheries regard eating 21 millimetre pellets nad boilies as natural as they literally depend on them for essential dietary requirements, but it does not mean using hook baits of this size make it easier to catch warier fish. The finding is that smaller baits do often fool carp better than large baits and this is not merely due to the fact that proportionately far greater numbers of anglers use baits over 1 centimetre in size…

How many big carp get hooked by match anglers at the end of a day of baiting up constantly with tiny pouches of fine bread crumb and fish meal and tiny micro pellet ground baits; it happens far more often than carp anglers like to imagine. The constant ground baiting is one factor along with the fine tackle they use, but mostly, match anglers are offering carp the ideal form of ground bait to exploit their natural filter feeding modes. Literally matching up your bait to the feeding modes of fish and even influencing which mode and feeding intensity occurs can seriously improve your catches all season; it just takes a little bait know-how…

In this way you can know the fish can truly positively assess your hook baits and free baits in advance of physically sampling them, by the particles and substances in solution and in suspension in the water columns coming from your baits. In doing filter feeding mode of feeding, carp will taste what they are filtering using taste buds in their pharyngeal cavity, and can feed like this while moving or stationary and on difficult pressured waters stationary filter feeding on bait substances in suspension etc is very common.

When filter feeding and using similar and related modes, carp can actually benefit from you baits nutrition and attraction without even touching them which definitely has its advantages if you use this to excite them fully before they actually feed. Such things as vegetable and fish oils, fine crustacean and milk extract powders and liver and digestive tract extracts for example, can all be exploited, but there are thousands of choices. Not all attention should be placed upon the chemical sensing of food items as with carp as other sense may also predominate including sight and even electrical lateral line detection of the tiny movements in the water of zooplankton! In the case of bait size, the diameter of the fish’s mouth is not always the limiting factor in certain feeding details, but in fact the diameter of the throat where chewing of food takes place. Small items are more natural to feed on for carp for much of the year round except at times when larger nutritious items are abundant such as fry in spring and molluscs like larger snails in the autumn etc.

Smaller food items can naturally be passed to the throat teeth in mouthfuls without any problem and of course the more energy efficient the food delivery system is the better. It can often be the case that small baits are the preferred choice of more experienced big fish anglers because they can see the benefits of smaller food items in regards how fish feed on such baits and also their more natural weight, size and movement in water when combined with a correctly balanced hook rig. I find boilies in the 6 to 8 millimetre size excellent for bigger more wary fish even with huge mouths!

If you exploit the various filter feeding modes of fish using various grades of ingredients both soluble and insoluble in your ground baits you can certainly induce far more intense and suitable feeding for hooking wary big carp. You might recall the fact that fish are lateral lines are tuned to feel the movements of live foods like maggots and sound is important in ground bait effectiveness, but smaller hook baits are well recommended in conjunction with this. With carp one thing is for sure and that is when you leverage their mode of feeding or preferably specifically induce particular modes of intense feeding, you can vastly improve your catches all year round and all you need to know is a bit more about effective bait use and ingredients manipulation…

Digital SLR camera buying makes more and more sense to both professionals and amateurs. Even when film cameras were much more cheaper than digital SLR’s, people still tried buying them, as it made a lot of sense, with all the benefits that justified the higher price.

You can change the lenses on your digital SLR camera when you need to, so the photos you take have an increased quality. You can use lenses designed for telephoto, wide-angle, portrait, or any other modes.

With that little caveat out of the way, lets press on. Now if your more of a ready, fire, aim shopper, your going to like this next little bit. As a rule, it’s pretty hard to buy a bad digital SLR camera in today’s market. I’m not just referring to the fact that manufacturers and retailers are fiercely competing for consumer dollars in a tight economy. That’s been going on for years with digital cameras. The other good thing, is that competitiveness has also driven up the quality, features and technology of cameras at a fevered pitch.

In most cases, digital SLRs that you can buy these days will take the lenses that film cameras did, so if you already have lenses for your film camera, you can use them on the digital SLR as well.

Something to think about when upgrading to an SLR, is to upgrade your own photography skills. Due to the complexity of these cameras, you will likely find that the biggest factor contributing to the quality of your images, is your own ability. Not to mention, you’ll be a more informed consumer when you make your purchase. A photography course would be a good investment. Having spend some time with a SLR before buying one can provide some valuable insight into what features are important to you.

You don’t want to believe everything your read and hear from sales clerks and websites, you’ll want some first hand experience. Playing around with someone else’s SLR either from a buddy, or a friendly camera store will give you a chance to form your own opinion about each camera.

All in all, the multiplier of the focal length is a bit of a mixed blessing. If you’re using a long lens, the zoom will be much better, but in the case of a wide lens, the full scene might not be fully captured this way.

There’s of course no rush, taking your time is never a bad decision with complex purchase. You may be tempted, to wait a little longer, and see what the manufacturers offer next week, next month, or next year.

While I’m sure, it will be something better, be warned that this cycle never ends. There’s always something better coming out tomorrow. There will come a point when you need to make a decision, and start taking pictures.

Recently, the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming association delivered a huge lawsuit again a Minnesota agency. It involved the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division and their efforts to prevent online gambling. There latest attempt involved contacting Internet Service Providers and telling them to block nearly 200 gaming sites from users around the state.

If you happened to miss this, here is a list of the citings they included:

The order violates the U.S. Commerce Clause, which was created to prevent undue intrastate trade restrictions.

A federal statute cited in the order does not provide the authority needed to block Internet access to the sites.

The order violates the U.S. Constitution’s First Amendment, which allows us the right to free speech.

Another portion of the lawsuit included lack of access for people who had the ISP, but didn’t live in Minnesota. These individuals would also have the gaming sites blocked.

The mission of iMEGA is to foster cooperation between the online gaming and entertainment industry and the government. It promotes creative and the open use of the Internet to all users. iMEGA is also well known as activist in the fight to protect the rights of the gaming community. They are also recognized as heading legal battles in Kentucky and at a federal level, stating that censorship of Internet access establishes a dangerous precedent that would allow government intrusion into the online world.

Minnesota State Representative Pat Garofalo felt that the order was justified and slammed IMEGA for their efforts. However, it was representative Willems who countered the remarks with a few of his own. He said that if the US allowed this kind of order to go unpunished, it would only be a matter of time before we would become like China. In short he believed that this order went against the laws that were already in place by law enforcement officials.

When it was all said and done, IMEGA mailed letters to Internet Service Providers explaining that they were not obligated to block access to the online gaming world. It will take time to figure out what type of long term effects there will be on the gaming society. However, we have an idea of where the online gaming industry is headed. Some of those companies contacted were Verizon, Comcast, and AT&T.
