World of Warcraft Hunter Guide
This WoW Hunter Guide will give you an introduction to the Hunter as well as point out their capabilities and drawbacks. You’ll also learn how to effectively function in this class.
1.) Understanding the Class
Hunters are strong characters when in a group or when playing solo in World of Warcraft. One of the first things you may notice about a Hunter is that they can be kitted in chain armor. You’ll also notice that they have a Survival skill tree. Don’t assume that this makes them tanks however, they are not indestructible. Make sure you use Hunters according to their strengths which are their pets and their long range weapons.
2.) What Race works best for Hunter’s?
If you’re on the Alliance side I recommend using Night Elves or Dwarves as Hunters. For Horde, Orc’s Troll’s, Tauren, and Blood Elves work well. Each race has its own unique set of strengths and each has the potential to be a great Hunter.
First you’ll need to choose your faction, either Alliance or Horde. I then suggest you spend some time looking at the different races and finding out what their perks are before making your decision. Regardless of what race you choose however, in the end game it will come down to the knowledge you have of your class and the game in general.
3.) Leveling Up
Leveling as a Hunter is in my opinion the easiest of all classes. Make good use of your pet and let it take the damage for you – don’t wrap it in cotton wool, you can always heal it and resurrect it later. It’s better to let your pet take a fall than you. If things get dire, throw your pet at the enemy and run away.
Take the time to learn about you abilities. Hunters can use traps for crowd control, heal and resurrect pets, go after multiple targets and so much more. It’s well worth the effort to learn what Hunters abilities are and how to use them.
4.) Pet Selection
Hunters have the ability to tame animals. When you come to choosing a pet, keep in mind that like you, they too have skill trees. When they level they get points that can be used to up their abilities. Take note of what type of food your pet eats and make sure you have plenty on hand. You can check this by rolling the cursor over the happiness symbol in the animal’s character sheet.
Happiness is another thing that you need to monitor closely. Happy well fed pets do more damage so when you see the icon on your pet window change from green to yellow you need to feed it.
5.) Talents
Hunters have 3 talent trees.
Beast Mastery – The talents in this tree are focused on you and your pet. The skills in this tree make you and your pet stronger, tougher, and harder to kill.
Marksmanship – Focusing on this tree will help with your DPS output. You can significantly increase your DPS output if you work at this tree.
Survival – This tree will help you with crowd control more than anything else.
Choose a tree that’s going to suit your playing style. If you think you’re most likely going to go it alone, then Beast Mastery will work best. Marksmanship might be the correct choice for PvP. Survival is in my opinion the least important tree unless you are planning to go in hand to hand combatbut then if you are planning on this then maybe a different class would work better.
The Hunter is a solid all round character to have. They are in my opinion the kings of solo play. They are very good gatherers and if well equipped can work well in almost any situation.
