The new way to read books
Can you imagine carrying an entire library?s worth of books in your hand? How about bringing hundreds of books with you whenever you?re traveling?
Then maybe it?s time you bought an E-reader.
Portable and lightweight, E-readers are slowly changing the way a growing number of people read books, magazines and newspapers. These small hand-held devices allow readers to instantly download their favorite books, magazines or newspapers and store them as long as they?d like.
With the press of a button, readers can open the latest chiller from horror writer Stephen King or read today?s editorial in the Chicago Tribune. Best of all, E-readers pack all this punch in a small, compact package. E-readers are smaller and thinner than even the flimsiest of paperback books.
E-readers are especially convenient for business trips or vacations. It?s always a hassle to cram several thick books into suitcases or duffel bags. Readers often decide to simply leave their favorite books at home. Then, when they?re sitting on the beach or waiting for their flight, they?re left wishing that they had that Scott Patterson thriller with them.
With e-readers, though, travelers can carry as many books as they?d like in one lightweight, easy-to-carry package.
E-readers also provide several bonus features. For instance, users can make notes and mark favorite or intriguing passages for future review. They can look up definitions with their E-reader?s built-in dictionary, and can hunt for synonyms with its thesaurus. Readers also no longer have to worry about damaging their pages when a bookmark is nowhere to be found; E-readers make a note of the last page a user has read, and then brings that page back up when the reader returns.
The two biggest names in E-readers are the Amazon Kindle 2 and the Sony Reader. Both come with high-resolution screens to make reading easy for even the blurriest of eyes. They can each store more than 300 books, with the Kindle 2 boasting enough memory for an amazing 1,500 electronic books.
Choosing an E-reader isn?t simple. Each comes with its own unique features, and its own list of positives and negatives. The best place to research E-readers is online, where a quick Google search will bring up reviews, both by users and consumer magazines and Web sites, of all the E-readers now commercially available.
If you?ve resisted E-readers until now, why not give one a chance? Most best-selling books are sold to E-reader customers for a significant discount. For instance, shoppers can purchase most best-sellers for just $9.99 on the Amazon Kindle Store. Once you download a book or two, you just might find yourself a fan of the new frontier in reading.
