Splishing and Splashing All Year Round
Playing on the beach or swimming in your own pool is a great pastime in the summer when the air is hot and sticky. However, once the temperature starts cooling down it’s no longer feasible to play around in the water outdoors. Thankfully, indoor water parks offer an outlet for fun in the water, year-round.
Indoor water facilities have always been a pleasurable place to socialize and have fun. Although water parks have not always had lazy rivers and wave pools, people have always used indoor aquatic facilities as a means to experience fun in the water, no matter what the season is.
Although indoor water parks have technically only been around in their current form since 1985 when the first one opened in Alberta, Canada, they have actually existed for a while.
For years, people have been enjoying indoor swimming pools. Sometimes the pools were in hotels and other times communities had indoor swimming pools for their residents. Likewise, many sports club and community center, such as the YMCA, offered an indoor pool for their members. The pools occasionally had slides.
Today, indoor water parks are kind of an extension of the indoor swimming pool concept. Of course, there are a few differences. For one thing, there is generally very little swimming going on in them. Plus, you can find more than just slides. Some indoor water parks even offer water roller coasters.
The first indoor water park in the United States was built in Wisconsin in 1985. Now, Wisconsin has more parks than any other state and has become a kind of Mecca for indoor water parks.
Some indoor water parks function as aspects of a resort. Sevierville, Tennessee offers an indoor water park that even offers poolside cabanas and indoor sunbathing. When water parks are part of a resort, you generally have to be staying there to use them, which can sometimes be an incentive to picking that particular resort.
For those that are not part of a resort, you can expect to get a reasonable rate at most of the parks. Rates vary, but you can generally expect to pay around $15 on average for a day of fun. Of course, if it offers a lot of attractions you might pay a little bit more.
During the winter, visiting an indoor water park can be good because the temperatures are kept to about 80 degrees-not too hot but warmer than the freezing temperatures outside. If you can’t play in the water outside, they can at least offer a fun alternative to other indoor activities like going to the movies.
During bad weather is also a good time to visit water parks. It doesn’t matter of it’s raining or overcast, the weather is always perfect indoors! This can be a good option in the summertime when the temperature should be a good time play outside in the water, but the weather just won’t cooperate.
Indoor water parks can be a fun way to bring summertime activities into any reason. Aside from being friendly on the wallet, at least for an afternoon you can feel like you’re on a mini tropical vacation.
