Who, What, When ” True Blood Seasons 1 and 2
True Blood is a fictional story (I hope) which is set in a town called Bon Temps, Louisiana. The series has been adapted from the books written by the author Charlaine Harris who has been writing books since 1980 but only fairly recently gained real recognition for her work with The Sookie Stackhouse Series (also named The Southern Vampire Mysteries).
The hit show is currently being screened by Home Box Office (HBO) as Season 2. It is produced in part by HBO and in part by Alan Ball’s (the producer) own production company which is known as Your Face Goes Here Entertainment. Interesting name, I know.
Ball has obviously gained a lot of recognition for his work and among the awards he has received are an Academy Award, an Emmy, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe, all for the aforementioned movie and series.
The initial showing of True Blood took place on the 7th September 2008 and Season 2 began on the 14th June 2009. Viewers have a total of 12 episodes of Season 2 to look forward to and then a further Season 3 will begin to be filmed before Christmas of this year, just to make fans even more ecstatic.
The story behind True Blood characterises the relationship between the vampire world (and a number of other creatures) and the human world. In general its a harmonious world, which takes us away from the usual mould of human and vampire relationships.
The main female protagonist is Sookie Stackhouse played by actress Anna Paquin, who alongside being an actress also runs her own film production company ” Paquin Films – with her brother Andres Paquin.
She has since played in all three X-Men movies as the character Rogue. She also runs her own production company ” Paquin Films – with her brother Andrew Paquin. A lady destined for fame and fortune for sure!
The series soon gained popularity and won a Golden Globe amongst others. Alan Ball, the series creator, previously worked on the hit series known as Six Feet Under, the finale of which was in October 2005. Ball then signed a two year contract with HBO and hence True Blood was borne.
One day while waiting for an appointment at his dentist, Ball ventured to the local Barnes and Noble book store and came across the Charlaine Harris novel Dead Until Dark, which was the first in The Sookie Stackhouse Series.
Mr Ball quickly set his mind upon the idea that this novel should be made into a television serial and therefore approached Charlaine Harris with the conception. She agreed even though she had been approached previously with similar proposals. She liked Balls enthusiasm and took well to his vision for how the book should be created into a television drama.
