Ballet Training – What is the Cost?

by Sarah Wilkiamson

A ballet dancer is by definition graceful. Whether a ballerina or a danseur (male ballet dancer), they have a powerful elegance that helps them achieve the perfection of dance they are required to demonstrate on stage.

There are years of training that are required in order to achieve that level of ballet dancing skill. It doesn’t happen without a lot of effort, and a not too small financial outlay!

Cost – Financial and Otherwise

At first, a young 5 year old may need to pay for a class every Saturday morning. She’ll need the appropriate training clothing, and probably either a home-made costume, or ballet tutu for the end of term recital. Costs here are normal extra-curricular level and are usually absorbed within a family’s budget. This changes as the child becomes more involved with the ballet world, and if they last until turning professional, their training could run into hundreds of thousands of dollars.

There are the formal tuition costs which vary depending on whether the dancer is enrolled in a formal ballet school where both dance and academic subjects are taught side by side, or whether there is private and group tuition to be paid on a weekly basis. The higher the skill level, the higher the costs. The same can be said about the incidental costs that are also incurred. These include appropriate clothing, transport, living expenses where appropriate and even school supplies.

There are ballet scholarships available for those ballet dancers who are serious about their dance and hope to pursue this as a profession. Unfortunately these are limited in number and so the standard required to receive one is high.

And then there’s the physical and emotional toll that ballet exacts from its dancers! The long hours for rehearsals during the day and performances at night in various venues make for a less-than-glamorous life away from family and friends, which also makes for a less-than-normal life. Such are the sacrifices ballerinas and danseurs must offer at the altar of ballet perfection.

Taking Care of the Dancer

Ballet dancers make their craft look effortless. They seem to glide across the stage rather than dance. This doesn’t come without a lot of training and so both ballerinas and danseurs must take great care of their physical and mental wellbeing.

This means that there’s a strict code of living for anyone who wants to excel in the ballet world. There is no place for drugs or alcohol. Adequate sleep and nutrition are of the utmost importance. Warming up exercises to relax and waken the body are also essential prior to beginning to dance. Any injuries to feet or legs must be attended to by a doctor.

You must maintain a positive attitude through your ups and downs. You must strive for perfection otherwise you will find yourself either out of school or out of work. So many rules, so many things to do but it must be done!

Compensation

One of the first things any ballet dancer will receive in terms of compensation is applause from an appreciative audience. Right back at the beginner’s recital, the love of audience approval will spur even the youngest of dancers to perform at their very best.

Financial rewards for ballet dancers aren’t great. Unless you have some form of national or international following you are only as good as the show you are currently performing in, and how long that show runs can vary from weeks (or even days) to months. Even a prima ballerina isn’t likely to be compensated financially for anywhere near the amount of hours she spends training and dancing in order to achieve her high level of ability.

Then again, when you are doing something you love and getting paid for it, who needs a boring 8-to-5 job?

That way, you can earn up to 140g every week.

World of Warcraft is very addicting. However, you have to make sure you balance between playing the game and your social life. You need to do something else too, no matter how addicted you are to the game. World of Warcraft is a long term strategy game and you can always pick up whenever you have left it the last time you played. There is no worry so enjoy your life while playing your favourite game.

Perfect Your Golf Slice

by Soan Keel

Would you rather hear “Fore!” or see four over par on your scorecard? Many golf players hope that their score will improve with each successive round. But in all likelihood, if you sliced the ball consistently in the previous round, chances are you’ll do it again. Fortunately, you can improve your game and hit the ball straight by addressing the underlying reasons why you are slicing the ball.

In order to know what is causing your slice you need to see how you are lining up with the ball. The first aspect of golf is to relax; most slices come from overcompensating your drive. Most slices occur from the tee too. The best method to see how you are slicing a ball is to line up your clubface with the ball. Your club has a rounded bottom to help drive the ball with as much force as possible.

Since your clubface is designed to have a sweet spot you want to make sure that you are lining up your ball with that spot in mind. It is best to play with a friend so they can see where you are aiming when you hit your shot. Unless you visit a driving range or golf pro shop that has the technology to show you your swing, a friend can watch you and tell you what you are doing wrong.

To get drive the ball a sufficient distance, you must hit the ball straight down the fairway. You will make some contact on the driving range, but without proper swing through on the entire course, your game will continue to decline. Remember to hold a solid stance, and avoid lifting your leg like a baseball player. This will only throw you off balance.

There’s an age-old strategy that many golfers don’t know. This strategy says that you should start by juicing the distance out of the ball in your drive, so that you end with your short game and save par. People who can blast a ball down the fairway are at a significant advantage over those that spend copious amounts of time in the woods searching for lost balls.

One strategy that can help you in your quest to hit a straight ball is to drive it from a kneeling position. This might seem counterintuitive, but if you’ve tried this method then you understand that it’s nearly impossible to lift a leg off the ground when hitting the ball in this position. Your arms stay straighter, and your closer proximity to the ball makes it easier to make a fluid, well-judged stroke.

If you try this a few times, you will know what a proper swing feels like. Your body should not twist and aim your ball in any direction but straight down the fairway. You can practice the same movement while standing on your feet.

After you’ve gotten enough practice to make sure your ball stays on the fairway, you’ll be able to hit it there consistently. You certainly won’t be capable of making any two hundred yard drives while you are kneeling, but this isn’t a permanent driving position. Ask a friend to assist you with your aim, and avoid looking up too soon ” otherwise the only thing you’ll see is a bad shot.

Restaurants in Pensacola

by Brett Adkins

Restaurant guides are used to review restaurants. There are many sources now for good reviews, ranks and good information for consumers to decide which suites them best. During the 12th century, you could see signs posted around the city with the name of the restaurants in the area and opinions from different locals.

Now, restaurant reviews are managed in a more civilized way. In Western Europe, one very famous contemporary guide is the Michelin series of guides which gives stars from one to three to restaurants with high culinary merit.

Restaurants that are awarded with stars in the Michelin guide are expensive and formal establishments. In general, the more stars gained, the higher the prices. The serious competitor of Europes Michelin Guide is the Guidebook Series by Gault Millau. Unlike the Michelin guide which rates the establishment for its service and decor, Gault Millau on the other hand judges only the food’s quality.

In the United States, The AAA and Mobil Travel Guides still rate restaurants with stars that scales from 1 to 5. Ratings from 3, 4 and 5 stars or diamond are almost the same to the Michelin 1, 2, and 3 star ratings, while 1 and 2 star ratings imply more casual places to eat.

Michelin released a New York City guide in 2005, which is considered first for the US. The widely known Zagat Survey gathers customers comments about different restaurants but doesnt submit an official critical assessment. In the United States, Gayot guide is published by Gault Millau, after the founder Andre Gayot. They use the 20 point system to rate the restaurants and are all posted online.

The Good Food Guide is Australias guide to the best places to eat. It is published by the Fairfax Newspaper Group in Australia. For remarkable restaurants, they award Chefs Hats which range from 1 hat through 3 hats. Included on the Good Food Guide are also reviews on cafes, bars and providers. Another Australian restaurant guide is the The Good Restaurant Guide. It supplies reviews on the establishments experienced by the public and has complete information on contact details and location. Everybody can submit a review.

Most of the major American newspapers hire restaurant critics and post online restaurant guides for the cities they serve. Less papers retain a reputation for meticulous review of restaurants that is based on the standards of the popular published guides, but others give more listing service.

Nowadays, Internet sites have started to put up reviews by the public and reviews by food critics. This topic is booming but the market is still not mature with no websites getting critical or dominant public support. Some sites are getting popular, but their major competition isnt left behind. Bloggers and search engines also play a big factor in reviews, active bloggers are most of the time favored by search engines over those big static sites.

Boys and Ballet

by Sarah Wilkiamson

Girls and ballerinas go hand-in-hand. Even in days of female superheroes, the ballerina dreams of 5 year old girls are still popular. To boys, a ballet dancer is a girl – someone in a pink tutu and ballet shoes.

Let us go back in history, ballet has been traced back in Renaissance Italy. At the start of early professional ballet, most of the dancers of ballet were men. They danced ballet but the catch is that they had to dress like women. They usually played female roles in ballet which required them to wear a tonnelet. A tonnelet is a knee-length hoopskirt that male ballet dancers used in their performances.

Why Ballet for Your Son?

You might think that enrolling your son in a ballet class is a good idea, but it’s likely your son won’t be quite so eager! You will see the advantages, he will see stereotypes and peer pressure disadvantages. Even as young boys the male of the species have a very strong gender role and wish to be thought of as being macho. Ballet classes don’t fit this image. So if you’re hoping to put your son into ballet, you’re going to have to be very convincing about what he’s going to get out of it!

In order to convince your son to join ballet classes, he must already have an interest towards the dance. If at an early age, your son had shown interest in dance or ballet, then you should enroll your son in ballet classes as early as possible. This will allow them to develop a liking for the activity without any outside influences. When they grow older and have more friends, they may get influenced by stereotypes that ballet is a girl thing. Suggesting that he take classes at a later age will further lessen the chances that your son will like the idea of ballet.

How to Convince Boys

Hollywood has been kind to parents who want their boys to at least try ballet class. With movies such as Billy Elliot and Center Stage showing not only that boys can do ballet, but also that they can be normal cool kids – they just enjoy dancing. “So You Think You Can Dance” on TV is a great way of showing your son that although his friends aren’t interested in dancing, there are plenty of other boys who are!

If you can find a ballet school, or even a class, that’s all boys then you’ll have an easier time convincing your child that he’s not the only boy in the world taking ballet class! He will be part of a group of boys who are all interested in learning how to ballet dance and will give him a network of friends who share his dance interest. Make sure you point out how strong ballet dancers are, and how the flexibility he learns at ballet can help him in other sports.

At first, it may be hard to convince your son to join ballet classes. Even if they agree to join ballet classes, chances are that he will be affected by what his friends will say about ballet. It is your responsibility as a parent to ensure that you won’t let these things get to your son. Make sure that they are having fun in this activity.

An Amazingly True Dog Story: The Life & Death Of Thor

by Rick London

I had just started my very first online offbeat cartoons and funny gifts venture, and stopped immediately my daily creative routine. Having grown up in rural Mississippi, I was used to the hot muggy afternoons which often brought tornadoes and rain. Thor was about twelve years old but was staring at the walls and not responding to my voice. He had been very active up until then. I got him to the veterinarian within ten minutes and the diagnosis was some rare ailment that dogs that age often get similar to seizures and he must be put down. I had been a dog lover and owner since age four. My intuition made me skeptical of the veterinarians conclusion instead I decided to keep Thor comfortable for a few days at home. Once Thor was resting I urgently began searching the Internet for alternative solutions and discovered Dr. Ian Billinghurst an Aussie author/vet/surgeon.

Dr. Ian Billinghurst was not easy to find. He is an Australian holistic/but also also practices traditional western medicine and surgery. He had just penned the controversial book titled Give Your Dog A Bone. It entailed a diet plan that was basically raw foods, bought at the grocery preferably organic. The special recipe contained lots of raw meaty bones and occasionally a blend of vegetables, raw burger, etc. in a blender. I discovered that raw organic tripe is one of the most perfect foods for domestic animals. The first time I fed Thor a raw chicken wing, I was mortified. I had heard all my life this was the surest way to kill a dog, but I was desperate. I could already see and feel his soul energy fading. Thor surprisingly took to this new diet, after not eating at all or drinking very much water for several days, and even then only by dropper. I switched his water to bottled spring and ordered herb tinctures and live flash-glanced vitamins with live minerals as well. He was devouring these raw foods, from hamburger to raw chicken to carrots to pears to romaine lettuce (and a blend of them all).

Thor’s life was beginning to return, even more so than I’ve seen in most puppies. The biggest problem was the terrible odor and coloration of his stools and urine for the first month. Dr. Billinghurst warned me that would happen. The toxins of commercial pet food were leaving his system. One morning, about a month after beginning Thor on the B.A.R.F. (Bones And Raw Foods or Biologically Appropriate Raw Foods), Thor jumped on my bed, something he had never done prior to the diet. He was wagging his tail and ready to go out and play. He grabbed his leash and was ready for a walk. He didn’t want a short walk but was willing to go with me my usual five miles. He kept up with me without even panting or having a shortness of breath. The vet had also advised me that in addition to the mystery disease, Thor also suffered from phase 2 CHF. I started giving him the same herbs I was taking for my heart disease such as hawthorn berry and very hot cayenne tincture. I stopped all vaccinations as advised and bought homeopathic nosode vaccines ordered from Ca. on the net. His daily diet also consisted of fresh organic fruit and vegetables (and occasionally yogurt mixed in a blender. He loved it all and devoured every meal like a wolf in a hen house, whereas in the days of feeding him commercial dog food, he always treated it as if it were rat poison (which I would later find out was not far from the truth).

This should have been no surprise. According to Dr. Billinghurst and now other experts on the subject of the raw pet diet, dogs digestive systems have not evolved very much from their earlier days, before domestication, when they were still wolves, just as cat’s systems had not since they were lions. Thor’s energy level kept growing and growing as did his wanting to be near me and play at every given chance, whereas he used to mostly lay around and sleep during his pre-barf days. Up until age twenty, he continued to greatly enjoy our walks, usually three to five miles. It was only when he was about twenty one, that his phase two heart disease changed to phase four, and I knew that was dangerous. It was only then, almost a decade since his last vet visit, except for checkups, that I was forced to also use allopathic medicines, such as Lasix for his heart. I did so very hesitantly, as I was aware this type medicine would eventually hurt his liver and kidneys, which of course it did. In his final year, he had several near-death experiences in which I rushed him to the vet. I was already resolved that if he were in any kind of discomfort, or his quality of life was compromised, I would sadly have my best friend put down. The vet insisted he would not put him down. After all Thor had made three major comebacks at age twenty-two which he considered nothing less than a miracle. After a final try of a body flush, I could tell he was almost gone. I asked the vet what to do. He said to take him home, there was still a chance. I knew there was not. I could see his life and soul fading from his eyes. I knew him too well. He had been by my side, by my desk at home where I work, for a decade. I said I would take him home but I ordered a bottle of morphine which I administered around the clock as I slept on the floor cradling him during his final night. I had to put the morphine pill down his throat and set my alarm clock for every three hours so as to wake up and give him another. On the 6 am alarm, I opened the bottle to give Thor his pill, but his life-force was now gone. I looked down and saw there was no breath, no heartbeat. Even though I knew he was “in a better place” I cried for weeks. I looked closely at his face and he was still smiling. He always had a smile through life, and now it stayed with him even in death.

The snow was omnipotent. The ground was slippery from the ice and it was hard to carry his 35 lb. pound body up the hill. He had a favorite hill behind our home where he chased birds, squirrels, eagles, chipmunks, rabbits and every animal imaginable. I built a small casket for him and a headstone. I had a shovel in the other hand. I lay him down in the casket, and begin digging, first through the snow and ice and finally through the hard dirt until the hole was about four feet deep. I lay him in it, said a prayer, and filled it cold and shivering and still crying. I carefully placed the coffin in the ground and filled it up. I placed the headstone. It’s epitaph read, To Thor:I will always love you and never forget you. Your best friend, Rick.”

A year and a half has passed since Thor’s death. The grieving process took longer and was more intense than I had calculated lasting nearly six months. Friends were suggesting I go immediately to the shelter and adopt another. I could not do it then but now I know I will one day. It is after all what Thor would have wanted. I can only thank God, and thank Dr. Ian Billinghurst the Father of The Raw Food Diet, and Shirleys Wellness Cafe, for giving Thor and I another beautiful ten years together. Although one veterinarian had decided it was time to put Thor down, it was, in reality, time for Thor to begin living. Thanks to the B.A.R.F. diet, Thor lived a long and healthy life.

The Painting and the Roofing Skill

by Scott Rodgers

I would like to share my experience with all the readers as I got bountiful experience; when I visited Europe. I have visited almost major cities and countries in Europe. I was most touched by Italy, France and Austria. The whole journey and experience was commendable and I am too eager to share my experience with every one around.

The famous Basilica in the middle of city of Paris was an awesome experience. The evening prayers have purified my soul. I was happiest, when I visited Disney Land. The mind boggling experience was City of Rome. Since I got so many experiences all together, I was in the happiest state

The Gondolas in the romantic city of Venice was undoubtedly huge experience. I along with many love birds were collecting picture of grand palaces of the city. I collected so many pictures, and made it a life time experience. It was full of history, no doubt.

The magnificent Eiffel tower was message full as it stands tall and conveys to be always fighting and energetic. The lifetime experience was the museum of Du Louvre and Fashion Street. They were quite close by. Not only this, I got to meet lot of friends.

While, I was going through various layouts and I was studying them. I got an opportunity to dig out hidden architectural information because of my good knowledge of roofing. And at the same time, I would like to appreciate the great work of the roofers who have created such huge architectures.

The great painting of Mona Lisa was simply a class apart. We have acknowledged it even further. When I say we, I mean to say me along with my friends who were also there for the information gathering. The view was quite picturesque at the museum because of the way panels and platforms were put to use to enhance sculptures beauty.

I had a wonderful experience as roofer. I gathered lot of information on roofing and it will help me so as to make me a better design consultant. Though, I might not work on a huge architectural layout.

I might get good opportunities to visit many more countries; because of my work in roofing. So I can say, my visit to European countries has enriched me knowledge wise. And I would like to see and explore many more European cities which have great history.
