Why People Larp
A variety of people, both men and women enjoy LARPing. LARP stands for Live Action Role Playing, and there are many different forms of this activity. It may be a strictly controlled gaming scenario, or just a casual gathering of historical reenactment enthusiasts. Either way, there are a number of people who enjoy these kinds of games.
Those who enjoy LARPing the most tend to be extremely imaginative and theatrical people. They generally enjoy the times of medieval days, and/or fantasy genre. Most people who enjoy LARPing often find it easy to spend time in these reenactments because they often share common interests.
What attracts a lot of people to role playing game is because it is a way to become someone else. It encourages the players interact and maybe forget some of their natural shyness. LARPing is proving to be a great venue for people to become bold and outspoken without “much” ridicule.
There are many different reasons to play a LARP, and just as many different types of players. Some of the common reasons for LARPing might include treating it like a competitive sport, or just to get together with people who enjoy exploring a fantasy game. Many players enjoy using their imagination and creativity to share the stories in their heads with others who will appreciate them. It’s a way to impress others and find acceptance from their peers.
Many people like LARPing that is based on the stories that they like to read. It is a chance to escape reality and be a part of the literature that they enjoy reading.
LARPing opens up opportunities to be involved with fantasy, mystery, or historical events. Some people have become so immersed in the fictional role play, that they forget the current reality all together. It offers people the opportunity to understand the character in unique ways that you couldn’t get through just passively reading.
In general terms, there are three types of LARPers: the dramatist, the gamer, and the immersionist. The dramatist enjoys acting out in any scene, the gamer gets the most from the battle scenes and solving puzzles, and the immersionist looks to maintain the authenticity and atmosphere of the characters and world background.
