It seems strange to me how many incorrect assumptions and teachings there are about becoming a better guitarist. Here is one thing that is NOT true.

Others are great marathon runners. Others can swim faster or longer. Others can jump higher. Others are stronger. Others are smarter. Others have faster reflexes. Others can through a football better. Others can shoot a basketball better, etc.

The point is athletes with great abilities have them usually in one area. For example, Michael Jorden (arguably the world’s greatest basketball player of all time) was not very successful when he tried to play baseball (or golf for that matter). Think about athletes in the olympics, they are specialists. They have found their natural ability and developed it to its greatest potential, but that natural ability is usually limited to one skill.

Beethoven probably had no natural ability known to himself for along time. He didn’t even begin composing much until around the age of 30! He was not a child prodigy like Mozart and Chopin were.

If you are wondering why I haven’t given you a detailed explanation of the strategies I used in the past, it would be pointless for me to tell you what my strategy was, because it was specific only to my goals. Chances are, your goals may differ greatly from mine in many different ways.

I am sure you can find something you really like and that would inspire you. Look on the internet if you can’t find it on the conventional radio. Check out internet radio, you can customize what you here based on your preferences, its a great tool! Check out web sites that you know feature a lot of the music in the style you like.

This is critical to setting goals, planning strategy and monitoring the results, etc. When all the enemies of progress start to creep into your mind, you will need to bring your definite purpose to the forefront of your thinking. I have seen procrastination, fear of failure, self doubt, lack of motivation, temporary setbacks, and other negative things bring people with great potential to a halt. Knowing your definite purpose and reminding yourself of it when a negative thought comes into your mind will help you overcome it.

To be GREAT means I have to be BETTER than everybody else. We already touched on this one above, but it is worth mentioning again here. What matters is reaching YOUR goals, not someone else’s goals. Who cares if you are or are not better than someone else? This is not the olympics. Music is the art of expression (or for some people, the science of entertainment).

While wandering around the World of Warcraft, you are likely to come across many would-be knights, but none more fearsome than the Death Knight. Death Knights begin the game at level 55, and are recommended for players that have already experience the content of the game up until that point.

Death Knights have the ability to fill two roles very well; that is the role of a damage dealer and a tank. The two most popular choices for talent specialization are Unholy and Blood. As a Blood talent specialization, you gain the ability to do large amounts of damage, and siphon some back to yourself as health. This allows a Death Knight to continuously pump out damage with less worry about their health points.

When using the Unholy talent specialization, Death Knights have the option of having a very useful companion with them called a zombie. Zombies are made by casting a skill on a creature once they are dead, and they stay with the Death Knight for long periods of time unless they are killed. Death Knights can even turn dead allies into zombies.

You should not forget that tanking knights are well trained and have a great difference when compared to the other tanks, particularly the warriors and paladins, which appear to be less specialized. What’s surprising is that they don’t apply the use of shields just like the druids. They also insure that they use their defence in a special way, plus have great stamina which comes in handy. The fact that they have one-hand weapons and a dual wield gives them an added advantage.

Just as the name suggests tanking death knights possess great tanking abilities, which helps them to tackle multiple monsters without troubles. They don’t have rage or mana but the runes plus runic power sets them apart.

Runes at some point appear a bit difficult to understand. The logic is that you need six runes with two of base type. The three major runes, frost, unholy and blood runes, can be sampled out in a special way. With frost and unholy, you can be in a position to successfully bring out the death runes, which count as, frost unholy and death runes. This basically offers you a unique opportunity when playing death knight.

Be careful as you jump into the class of a Death Knight. They are very unique, and will take some time to get accustomed to – no other class in World of Warcraft has the same play style as the Death Knight.

Understand that becoming a better guitarist means becoming a better musician as well. When developing your musical skills, make sure to think beyond skills that are specific to guitar.

If you are like most players, you are desiring to become a better guitar player. Through my own learning experience and through teaching well over 1,000 students, I have learned a lot on this subject. Students often ask why they are not not at the level that they desire to be and what can be done about it. I have asked myself this same question many times in the past. A long time passed before I began to understand the answers.

The first step is to stop thinking of yourself as merely a guitarist. I’ll take this one step further and recommend against thinking of yourself as a musician! You are, or are at least learning to become, an artist.

Listen to a song on a CD and jam along. This increases your ear for music, and helps to get down timing. The average song could be played through two or three times.

You should be a well rounded player and learn lots of different styles of music to become a good guitarist. This is one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever heard on the subject.

Define exactly why your purpose exists in your mind. I specifically choose to list this separately from defining your purpose because I did not want you to let the WHY get lost in the act of DEFINING. Trust me, this is important.

Now, the challenge will be to be able to use the practice approaches that can actually change something like that. Users of “The Principles” know that this means Posing, and No Tempo practice, and the use of The Basic Practice Approach. Again, unfortunately, too often I meet readers of my book who are not really using these practice approaches. They bought the tool, but they don’t use it! Those that do, see the results.

They are masters of their style, they are specialists, not a jack-of-all-trades type of player. Don’t listen to people who say something like, You must learn blues before you can learn heavy metal or classical guitar.You do not have to be well rounded.
