In the world of sports, no legend is more interesting than the history behind the World Cup of soccer. This vessel of victory has been around for almost a hundred years and it has an intriguing past. The World Cup of soccer has lasted through generations of soccer fans and will continue to be a symbol of the utmost challenge and triumph in sportsmanship for generations to come. Heres a little of the history behind the World Cup of soccer and how it got its various names.

Starting in 1930, the World Cup of Soccer was known as the “Jules Rimet Trophy” so-named for the man who was the first president of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). It was a beautiful one of a kind trophy designed by the French Sculptor, Abel Lafleur, who gave it a gold-plated sterling silver finish on a lapis lazuli (blue natural stone) base. The design included a representation of the ancient Greek goddess of victory “Nike”, thus it was originally named “Victory”. Over time, the award was engraved with the names of the nine winners of the World Cup championship soccer games. In 1946, the trophy was re-named “Jules Rimet Trophy”, but had also been called the “Coupe du Monde”.

But thats not where the history of the World Cup ends. During World War II, for fear of it being stolen by German Nazi troops that had occupied the region where it was stored, the then Italian-born president of FIFA, Dr. Barassi, hid “Victory” under his bed in a shoebox for several years. Despite his heroic efforts to preserve the trophy, in 1966, the trophy disappeared while on display in England in a public exhibition at Westminster Central Hall. It was found seven days later, buried under a tree in a suburban garden in South Norwood, a good distance away, dug up by a little dog named “Pickles”. To this day, no one knows why it was stolen or who was the culprit behind the heist.

In 1970, the trophy was won a third time by Brazils soccer team and was stored in the nations capital, Rio De Janeiro. However, once again it was subject to a theft in 1973 when it came up missing and was never again to be seen by anyone, including soccer fans. Rumor has it; the trophy was melted down for its precious metals. However, we will never know for sure how Victory met her untimely escape from the world of sports.

That is not the end of the World Cups venture to the hallowed halls of soccer fame. In 1974, a new World Cup soccer trophy was created to replace the former and was presented to the captain of the winning West Germany team, Franz Beckenbauer. The design of the newer trophy was picked from over fifty designs that were submitted to the FIFA by experts from the seven continents. The winning design is a solid 18 carat gold swirling statue with a double-row malachite base. It was designed by Italian sculptor, Silvio Gazzaniga, who has gone on to design several other famous sports world trophies for soccer and baseball.

Today, the World Cup is known simply as the FIFA World Cup Trophy, but soccer fans sometimes still refer to it as “Victory” in honor of the previous trophy. Only five countries have won it so far, the most recent being Italy, but there are enough spaces for the winning teams names to be engraved onto its base until the year 2038.

One of todays most popular entertainers is Beyonce Knowles. She is talented, smart, funny, and beautiful. She has been busy making music from a young age and went on to become part of popular group Destinys Child. In the years that followed, she broke out on her own, producing a total so far of 3 albums and still has much more to come. Not only has she shown us her musical talents, but she has also starred in a number of movies and even lent her hand to endorsing a handful of products.

Beyonce seems to have it all and yet at the center of her career is a near obsessive debate about her height and weight. There are even sites filled with blogs and first hand accounts of people seeing Beyonce and trying to calculate her height. Some even go so far as to try to debunk or confirm those persons calculations based on other evidence offered.

Some have suggested that she is very self conscience about her height and so bills herself as taller than she actually is and tries to hide her actual height by choosing to wear height heels and watch the style and cut of her clothing thus adding more to the illusion of being tall.

Early on in her career she stated that she was 5 feet and 6 inches tall and weighs 135 lbs; the weight may have fluctuated since then since this was during her Destinys Child days, but should be no more than 5 to 10 lbs difference at this point today. According to various sources, her height has ranged anywhere from 5 feet and 2 inches, all the way up to 6 feet. As for her weight, that has been reported in as being anything from 130 lbs all the way to 185 lbs. An interview held with Beyonce in Ebony magazine, stated that she is a petite lady of 5 feet and 3 inches in height. Considering the reputation of Ebony, it is doubtful that they are quoting the stars height incorrectly. She often appears taller due to camera angles and photo staging to keep proportions, or one person equal to that of others in the shot. Also, music videos are often shot at low angles which add to the appearance of a person being taller than they actually are. She shows a preference for very high heels which depending on the style of the shoe and the designer, can add anywhere from 4 to 7 inches to her height. She also often tends to wear her hair styles high or big, which adds to her height.

Beyonce has also appeared to be quite voluptuous but in person it seems she is very petite and slender. Various explanations have been offered to answer this question. Everything from the style of clothing to the camera adding weight has been blamed for the stars extra weight and curves. Some have made comments that her hips are quite wide and so she cannot weigh what she claims to, and debates have been had over her clothing size. Various sources claim she is anywhere from a size 6 to a size 10, and anything in between.

Only Beyonce knows if she actually is a petite 5 ft and 3, weighing 135 lbs. If she is cautious about revealing her true weight and height, or even if she has been telling us the truth all this time, it will most likely not end the continuing speculation from fans all over the world.

Marshall Mathers was born in St. Joseph, a small town just outside Kansas City, MO. Marshall spent most of his early life between St. Joseph and Detroit, living in near poverty conditions. He was deeply attracted to rap music by the time he reached his teen years, and at the age of 14 was performing raps in his friends basement. The two pals billed themselves as Manix and M&M which, was soon changed to Eminem (the name originally was formed from his initials). Because of the racial boundaries that were placed in front of him as a white rapper he took to the underground rapping as a battle rapper in clubs. He eventually became a popular performer and discovered that he was the rapper to beat.

The topics of his raps are based on his skills to express himself about his unhappy childhood and the drastic, and often dramatic, circumstances that arose throughout his life. His recordings over the past several years are an impressive accumulation of deep and meaningful lyrics.

- 1995 – Joined New Jacks, then left, and joined Soul Intent releasing his first single – 1997 – Debut album is released. The title, ‘Infinate’ – 1998 – After being contacted by Dr.Dre, Eminem releases his -alter-egos’ album, ‘The Slim Shady EP’. Eminem had discovered that his only means of dealing with his life was through his rap music. The single to preview the albums release was ‘Just Dont Give A Fuck’.

- 1999 – In February his official, full album release happens, ‘The Slim Shady LP’. In March he hit the top 40 with his single, ‘My Name Is’ and by October his album was certified 3x platinum.

- 2000 – In February, Eminem won 2 Grammy Awards; Best Rap Solo Performance for “My Name Is”, and Best Rap Album (The Slim Shady LP) . In March he was back in the top 40 with a collaboration rap song done with Dr.Dre, called “Forget about Dre’. By summer his latest album emerged on the music scene, -The Marshall Mathers LP’, selling close to 2 million copies in the first week. By the end of August, his -Marshall Mathers LP’ had hit 6x platinum and hit 7x by the end of September. By the end of the year the album was the second highest selling at 7.9 million copies sold within the year.

- 2002 – The rapper re-emerged after a year of legal battles to write some new lyrics with the album ‘The Eminem Show’. Singles ‘Without Me’ and -Cleanin Out My Closet’ from the album, proved very popular. In June, ‘Without Me’ topped the Billboard Top 40 for two weeks. ‘Cleanin Out My Closet’ hit the top ten in September. October saw the release of the soundtrack to movie ’8 Mile’ which featured several songs by the rapper as well as other artists, like Jay-Z and Macy Gray. From this soundtrack, Eminem hit #1 for three weeks with song -Lose Yourself’.

- 2003 – January saw him win the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Male Musical Performer. Most of this year was spent collaborating with other artists and winning various music and music video awards.

- 2004 – His ‘The Marshall Mathers LP’ had now hit 9x platinum and by November, a new album, ‘Encore’ was released. Singles, ‘Mosh’ and ‘Mockingbird’, hit the top 40 charts.

- 2005 – This year saw the rapper Eminem, is taking time off to produce music with other artists but not before he released a hit album called ‘Curtain Call’. The album contained 3 new tracks in addition to his chart toppers.

- 2009 – A highly anticipated album was due for release this May/June entitled ‘Relapse.’

Eminem is well known for his raw, honest, and graphic lyrics and continues to deliver results with each new track. He has struggled emotionally and has chosen to share his struggles through his rap music. His talents have been rewarded time after time with countless awards for both his music and videos.

Just offshore from Toronto, The Toronto Island Ferry service allows visitors to access the island and island residents to access the mainland. The history of the Toronto Island Ferry is both a unique and fascinating story.

In 1833, the first ferry boat called the Sir John of the Peninsula, was put into service to take people across the Toronto Bay. From 1835 to 1851, George Heathcotes first steam ferry called the Toronto, provided ferry service for the city. In 1843, Louis Privat, a co-owner with his brother of the Islands Peninsula Hotel, acquired guests by providing a ferry service on their horse-powered ferry called the Peninsula Packet. Horse boats were driven by a horse running on a treadmill linked to gears which turned causing the boat to move.

In 1851, James Good constructed his steam ferry the Victoria, which stayed as a chief ferry until 1855. In 1864, the steam ferry known as Watertown, was put into service. In 1865, the The Princess of Wales, made its debut and served as a ferry until 1883. In 1870, Thomas Lundy’s, Perry came into operation. In 1882, The Luella was put into service and became widely known as the “fastest little steamer on Toronto Bay.” It held 122-passengers and was eventually retired in 1934.

In 1892, Turner Ferry Company was purchased by the John Doty Engine & Ferry Company. The company merged with A.J. Tymon’s Island Ferry Company to create the Toronto Ferry Company. Over the years, many ferries were constructed and used for the Toronto Island Ferry Service.

Many ferries continued to be built all the way through the remainder of the 19th century with most boats being paddle steamers that were built by private owners. In 1910, The Trillium was put into operation and provided service until 1957. This ferry had side paddle-wheels and observation decks. The Trillium received her name from the flower which is the symbol of the province of Ontario. Until 1926, The Toronto Ferry Company continued to operate the ferry services. Their services and boats were purchased by the City of Toronto and transferred to the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), the group that runs the city’s transit system.

By 1952, several new diesel-powered ferries had been introduced into the fleet which provided a quicker passage across the bay. In 1967, the Trillium was retired and was to be used only in an emergency.

In 1961, the ferry services operated by the TTC were transferred to Metro Toronto Parks and Culture. In 1974, Mike Filey and Alan Howard embarked on plans to restore the “Trillium” which was eventually achieved. The ferry was modified to use diesel fuel and it was restored to its original 1910 appearance.

In 1997, the metropolitan municipality and their member municipalities merged, and the ferry services became the responsibility of the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation. In 2005, the ferry services were conveyed to Torontos Parks, Forestry and Recreation Department.

The history of The Toronto Island Ferry is a remarkable tale. It is no wonder millions of people enjoy taking a historical ride on Toronto Islands Ferry and Toronto boat cruises.

Numerous people when they hear the term animation they automatically think of cartoons, yet if they’re on the computer at all then they have most probably been open to animation. This doesn’t signify they’ve been watching cartoons when they are suppose to be working.

Animation is not just restricted to cartoons. Nor is there simply one type of animation. The common and current one thats famous now is 3D animation, but numerous of us grownups grew up with 2D animation. Which by the way in my opinion was just as much fun as it is nowadays, but perhaps lots more work by way of manual labor. That didnt deter the love of animation that’s so evident in those Saturday morning cartoons.

Animation is an illusion. Not meaning it doesn’t exist it means that youre making the viewer think that a particular object is moving on his very own. Like when Mickey Mouse waves to his friends at the end of a cartoon. In the beginning, in 2D every time an object was going to take different position no matter how slight it had to be hand drawn that way. No doubt, the completed project was comprised of many drawings. There are put together in sequence called frames, depicting one movement to another.

As technology in the industry grew so did animation. Together came the comp and within a short while the 3D animation became a reality. The animation industry hugged this new form of art and as a result, what took a few people to attain was now cut down to a handful or less. The comp had the capabilities of doing much of the work. In case youre thinking that there goes the computer replacing people this is not the case. What it did do was offer the opportunity to have better tools to produce a better job. You may find that a different order of study is more expedient. And what if you don’t get to the end at the pace they expect?

To be straight, the best solution is to have their ideal ‘order’ of training laid out, but make sure you have all of your learning modules right from the beginning. You then have everything in case you don’t finish within their ideal time-table.

For the average person, considering these areas tends to require the help of someone that has direct industry experience. Not only the qualifications – you also need to understand the commercial needs and expectations of industry too.

What is easier: Go through loads of academic qualifications from hopeful applicants, having to ask what each has covered and which commercial skills they’ve acquired, or pick out specific commercial accreditations that perfectly fit your needs, and then select who you want to interview from that. You’ll then be able to concentrate on getting a feel for the person at interview – instead of having to work out if they can do the job.
