The Beatles Mono Mixes Box Set: The Original Mono Mixes On CD For The First Time Ever
In the late ’60s stereo mixes became the standard and mono was left behind as a part of history. But up until then mono was the standard and The Beatles spent almost all of their time on the mono mixes. The stereo mixes were little more than an afterthought in comparison.
For the first time ever these original mono mixes are going to be officially available on CD when they are released on 9/9/9. It’s exciting for Beatles fans to be able to finally hear these original mono mixes because many of those who have heard the mono mixes (on vinyl) have said that they are superior to the stereo mixes.
The first 10 Beatles studio albums are included in The Beatles mono box set along with stereo versions of the band’s two 1965 classics: Help! and Rubber Soul. A non-album track collection titled Mono Masters is also included.
The Beatles final three studio albums (Abbey Road, Let It Be, & Yellow Submarine) are not included because they were never mixed in mono. By 1969 mono had been completely phased out.
The original stereo mixes for Help! and Rubber Soul were decided to be not suitable when the Beatles CDs were first released in the 1980s so new mixes were created of these two albums. That means the original stereo mixes (as released in the 1960s on LP) have never made their way onto CD. Until now. That’s why they are included in this mono box set even though they are not mono mixes. It’s to complete the “historical record.”
Prior to the release of this new Beatles Mono Box Set it would have been very difficult to hear these original stereo mixes of Help! and Rubber Soul because they could only be heard on the original vinyl LPs released in 1965. These are hard to get your hands on these days. And plus, most people don’t have a record player anyway!
Mono Masters is a collection of all of The Beatles non-album tracks and as it’s name implies, all of the mixes on this album are mono mixes.
“Hey Jude,” “Paperback Writer,” & “Day Tripper” are among the many Beatles hits included in mono in the Mono Masters set. Interesting B-sides like “Rain,” “This Boy,” & “Yes It Is” are on it too.
If you only want to buy a few specific Beatles albums in mono (such as The White Album & Sgt. Pepper) then you are plum out of luck. These CD versions of the mono mixes of The Beatles albums are only available as a part of this Mono Box Set.
