Scotland offers the most glorious countryside in Great Britain making it a most amazing holiday destination. Countless visitors decide upon Edinburgh as their primary destination, while a smaller number decide upon something a bit different. The following article looks at Scottish vacations and a variety of things to do when in Scotland. The article also looks at the Wickerman Festival.

With an immensely diverse countryside the range of things to do is endless. Climbing mountains is highly popular, as are hill walking vacations. The most common vacations are golf or fishing. With Scotland being the home of golfing it should not surprise you that that you are hardly ever too far from a minimum of one superb golf course. With the Rivers Spey, Tweed and Tay you almost guaranteed of an excellent day fishing. But what if you want a vacation with a difference?

Large numbers of folk are choosing music festivals their annual vacation. Although most music festivals are huge with a focus upon making money, there are a small number of family orientated music festival, such as the Wickerman Festival and Tartan Heart.

More of a music and arts festival, the yearly Wickerman festival is held on farm land close to the village of Dundrennan, Dumfries & Galloway about 5m away from the town of Kirkcudbright in Scotland. The festival theme is the cult classic film, “The Wicker Man” which the stars Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee, Diane Cilento, Ingrid Pitt and Britt Ekland.

The first Wickerman Festival was held in the month of July two thousand and two and was put together by a local man called Sid Ambrose. With no experience of organizing a very large event it is a surprise that it is still held today, especially when you consider the present economic climate. The Wickerman Festival has changed each year and, like the film, has a cult following.

Wickerman is hugely family friendly it has numerous activities for children including, fairground rides, a mountain biking trail, face painting and various workshops. This can be easily verified by simply searching for photos of the Wickerman Festival 2009 or alternatively visit the official Wickerman Festival Gallery.

Not too far from the site of the festival is Kirkudbright where you will find many of the locations used in the film including Harbour Cottage (the bakery) and High Street Gallery which was used for the post office and sweetshop. You will discover that there are a great many places of interest in the region and it is well worth having a short vacation here so that you can visit all of the tourist attractions. Common places in which to stay include Castle Douglas and Dumfries. Bed and breakfast accommodation in Scotland is nearly always first class and is also very affordable and much less expensive than staying in a hotel.

Vincent Van Gogh had an extraordinary career which was touch on here by highlighting some of his best paintings in a brief, readable manner to be accessible to those wishing to find new Van Gogh paintings quickly. Night Cafe remains a popular cafe bar for Van Gogh fans. Its incredible use of colour portrays an exiciting environment which played host to some of his best friends, Joseph-Michel and his wife Marie Ginoux.

Sunflowers is best known for Van Gogh’s love of detail and colour, and is produced in two series of paintings, in Paris in 1887 and later in Arles. His close friend, a fellow benchmark artist, Paul Gauguin, went onto purchase two of Van Gogh’s SUnflowers paintings and they became some of his favourite works by his friend Vincent.

Cafe Terrace at Night is mentioned in many of Vincent’s letters to his brother Theo and the cafe itself is still available for visits by fans wishing to experience some feelings of connection to this great artist. It was painted in Arles, France which was the setting for many of his great paintings including portraits & self-portraits alongside the Night Cafe.

The Starry Night features Van Gogh’s best known style of movements of imagination in motion with his paintbrush, creating mood paintings, with great feelings broadcast by the genius Dutch artist. Religion is believed to be in Vincent Van Gogh’s mind after The Starry Night was created, as he sought a way to control his own mental instability, which sadly he failed ultimately to do, leading to his untimely death.

Irises is a typical Van Gogh painting where flowers become a enlightening subject, disguising his own complexities of mind and problems in mental balance. Irises was created during his many periods in Saint Paul-de-Mausole asylum which attempted to keep Vincent on the right path, but sadly failed, as Vincent was dead shortly after.

Wheatfield with Crows shows Van Gogh at his moody, depressive self with dark skies and aggressive wind-torn fields. It remains one of his best and last paintings, painted in 1890, towards his sad demise which followed soon after Wheatfield with Crows was created. It is also one of the most expensive impressionist paintings ever sold.

Since Russia is a large country, it has a continental climate. That means that some parts can be colder or hotter than others. This is so because Russia is not protected from the Arctic and North Atlantic influence and it has mountains that block the moderating temperatures from Pacific and Indian oceans. As a result of these extreme temperatures large amounts of areas are covered by snow for six months. If you are not into snow and extreme cold temperatures it would be a good idea to not have holiday in Russia during the six month cold period. If you do go during this time have no worries, because there is always something to do but if you are specific about what you want to do..

Russia has two main seasons, winter and summer. The winters are extremely cold and long with only about six hours of daylight. In Moscow, it is only in the mid summer which is July and August that the temperature is pleasantly warm. It gets little rainfall as most of the precipitation comes in the form of snow. November is the time when the season changes to winter and this time is quite unpleasant.

The most popular travel destinations of Russia are Moscow and St. Petersburg. These are the areas most known by western societies. To get the most out of a holiday in Moscow or Petersburg the best times to visit would be in May or June. Both the cities will be vibrant with a lot of carnivals, concerts and such other special events. This is also the warm season which lasts for about four months. If visiting during this time, you will notice that the Russian people will be taking full advantage of this time rushing around making sure that they take care of as much business as they can while it is warm.

Around the beginning of July, St. Petersburg will experience daylight all day long. These White Nights are special and are worth experiencing. Autumn in Russia is beautiful with the bright trees and sunny weather. People are out to make the most of the time before snow comes in and the winter begins. This is a nice time to be visit Russia.

The unique landscape, the Baikal Lake and the Altai mountain make Siberia a must visit place for a few days. It is remote and gives you a feeling of being disconnected. Since the climate change is remarkable, you may want to fix the time of visit depending on what you wish to do in Russia. Krasnoyarsk located along the river is a beautiful place if you are in Russia for sightseeing.

The only time you should not visit Russia is November. It is usually rainy and cold and not at all fun. September and December is party time in Russia and you will have loads of fun if you plan your visit around this time. In September you may get to hear Russian and foreign musicians play.

From mid- October to mid- April, it will be too cold to camp outside so skip this time if you are looking for outdoor activities, except snow boarding of course. Careful planning of your activities will make sure that no unpleasant surprises are sprung on you by Mother Nature.

If you think that you don’t require Lost untangled anymore then think again because as the recent developments are occurring of season 6 Lost Untangled may become a necessary need to keep stick to the couch in front of you TV sets.

The creators were reported musing about the “to be” elements in the show when it goes on air for the ultimate season and one of the ideas on the cards is the re-entry of all the original survivors of the Oceanic Flight 815, as they were way back in 2004, when the first pilot episode of the Lost season 1 was telecast and paved the way for the show that went on to create television history.

What if you are one of the othersno, no, I don’t mean the devilishly creepy villains on the show, I meant if you are one of those who’ve started watching the mega series after Lost Season 1 and Lost Season 2, then you are surely going to be confused as to what part the each and every character essentially started with and how they have metamorphosed in the subsequent seasons. Though the creators are planning to get the same actors who played their part in the pilot episode of Season one, still you can’t take the risk of not fully understanding the final episode of the Lost which will give answers to all the questions.

Those fans who haven’t had a chance of watching the survivors of Lost Season 1, they can watch Lost Untangled and get to know everything about the show. Even if Lost Season 2 had not featured all the important moments of the Lost but it still had all the answers to the unsolved and unidentified mysteries. This brings us to the most difficult portion of lost that is after season six, there will be no confusions, no biting and overwhelming secrecy and the fans will certainly miss all that in the show.

Before you get yourself a tattoo, be it for the first time or the fifth time, you should always remember to do your research. Remember that the tattoo design that you choose is going to be “stick” with you for the rest of your life so it is better to be safe than to be sorry. So, don’t let the excitement of getting a tattoo take over your rationality of choosing the right tattoo design for yourself.

1. Always check that the studio that you are going to do your tattoo is hygienic and the artist sanitizes their equipments. Sanitary is very important because if any equipment is not clean, you might get infect by some disease. You don’t want that to happen do you. Also, never get a tattoo unless you are 100% satisfied with the tattoo design you choose. If you are not satisfied with anything, don’t be afraid to communicate with your artist. It is after all you skin and most tattoo artist will be glad to comply.

2. Try to make yourself feel relax and focus on something else to take away attention from the pain. Keep your mind occupied with other things will make the pain more bearable. Ever seen scenes from the television show when a women is giving birth and the nurse will ask the lady to keep breathing in and out? Well, that technique will keep you relax and calm too when you are getting tattooed.

Each time someone comes to me asking for advice if they should get a tattoo done, I will always ask them to consider twice before they get a tattoo done. And unless you are totally sure that you are not going to regret getting that tattoo done, don’t do it.

Always remember, removing a tattoo is not only going to cost more, but also hurt more than getting one. Therefore, be sure about yourself before getting a tattoo done!

Tribal tattoo designs are one of the most “flexible” types of tattoo designs and the numbers of tribal tattoos are literally uncountable. There is the lower back tribal tattoos, the tribal dragon tattoos, Hawaiian tribal tattoos etc. And some of the tribal tattoos are made out of patterns that you might not have seen before.

Although there are zounds of tribal tattoo designs, it all have one similarity. Most of these tattoo designs are designs pass down from tribes in Polynesia islands, Native America and Australia and, these designs usually has some form of meaning behind it.

For the Native American, the tribal tattoo designs is a symbol of the culture ideas and expressions. These tattoo designs are given to tribesmen or women as a form and symbol of blessing. Native American warriors also get these tattoos as they believe that these tattoos will protect them while they are hunting or when they are in a war. Different tattoo are also use to represent different status amongs the tribesmen or women.

Polynesian tribal tattoos comes from a deeper root and it is often bears a religious value or base upon myths and legends. It usually also revolves around a tribes superstitious or religious belief. And special tattoo designs are bestowed to warriors who had done something proud for the tribe. Because of this tattoo, the warrior also gains a special status within the tribe like the Native American.

As for the Maori, whenever there is an occasion or a celebration, the tribesmen will get a tattoo done to commemorate the event. Also, a tribesman will be given a tattoo when he shows the quality of courage or strength in any particular events.

Last but not least, the Hawaiians are also known for their tribal tattoo designs. The tribal tattoo is also a form of status in the Hawaiian culture as well. They too believe that the tattoos are a protection against danger and evil spirits.

As you can see, most tribal tattoos have a slightly different meaning in different cultures but yet again, they have some sort of similarity. Although we are not primitive tribesmen and women, it is still cool to know a little bit of the history behind these designs isnt it?

If you’re a fan of the NBA, you may be well aware of Stephon Marbury’s recent NBA off-season antics. For the entire day, Marbury has been filming himself and broadcasting it all online for those interested to see. He’s done some crazy things on this broadcast, and many have given him a “crazy” label.

While Marbury has definitely crossed the line on some occasions, I do believe that many are taking him too seriously. I think he’s just trying to entertain the masses, and bold moves always generate a buzz. Take his vaseline incident, for example, where he actually ingested some of the stuff. He wasn’t doing this just because he’s lost it, but he was doing this as others do when they’re looking to help their throats.

I don’t know if Marbury is going crazy, or if he is fine, just having fun. I am not a part of the Marbury circle, in which I am neither nor a: family member, friend, etc. Thus, I am not going to interfere with his personal life. But, what I am doing, is sending Stephon Marbury a message, that if he cares about playing professional basketball anymore…the “Starbury TV” is not a dream.

Marbury must come to grips with the fact, life happens in some strange ways, and many times it may seem unfair. Marbury, you have always been among the elite players in the NBA. Obviously not as good as the likes of Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, etc…stars of today basically…but you were right up with the best.

On average, Marbury would get a team 20 ppg along with 8-10 apg. A solid shooter, scorer, speedy, nice crossover, nice defense, a nice package all around. The main problem he has run into is being too cocky, and not being the best team player.

Marbury has recently become more affiliated with his negative impact on the teams he plays for than he has with his talent. Rather than speaking of his great skills and stats, the media and fans prefer to focus on all of the games his teams have lost, assigning much of the responsibility to Marbury himself.

Basically Marbury started over as a Boston Celtic. He did not complain, and was a good teammate, who helped with good production. He was a main person for defensive assignments late in close games, and he had contributed in scoring and moving the ball. As a Celtic, he seemed to be at times too un-selfish, passing on easy shots. It is not easy for him, because he wanted to portray a new image, and revive his career.

If you can cut out the silly antics, then you give yourself a better opportunity at coming back a star. Look, Allen Iverson is down so to speak. He is labeled as past his prime. He is not leaving basketball and making a show. He is training and working, to return and show he is in the prime of his career in the NBA, he is a superstar top 5 player, and can be that go-to-guy.

Looking to players like Allen Iverson, it’s ok for basketball players to gracefully decline as they age, but the focus should remain on basketball. All one can do is play their hearts out and focus on what they do best. Stephon should do the same.

Changing your own guitar strings is something that every guitarist should know how to do. It is part of the overall guitar maintenance process and there is little reason why you should get somebody else to do it for you. Not to worry, it is quite a simple thing to do this and it is not at all likely that you will cause any damage. Read the 5 tips below to do the string change properly:

1. Use the correct guitar string. Stringing your guitar with the wrong kind of string will result in irreversible damage to your guitar. Different materials are used to make strings for different kinds of guitars. For example, acoustic and electric guitars are strung with metal based strings while classical guitars are strung with nylon based strings.

2. Buy the correct tension of guitar string. For all kinds of guitar strings, there are different tensions. This might be indicated as a number known as “gauge”. The higher the guitar string gauge, the higher the tension. For beginners, I recommend low tension strings, which have a lower gauge to make it easier to play.

3. Do change your guitar strings one at a time. It is recommended that you change the strings one at a time, rather than removing all the strings before replacing them with new ones. This will help preserve the tension of the guitar neck and wood, reducing the possibility of damage to your precious instrument.

4. Use a string winder. A string winder is a valuable tool for any guitarist and it will save valuable time. It will cut down the time you will need to unwind and wind the strings by a significant amount. Use one so you can get back to playing the guitar quickly!

5. Do not cut your strings before tuning. The strings of the guitar have the tendency to slip slightly during the string change process. Because of this reason, it is highly recommended to tune your guitar up to pitch before you cut the strings. If you don’t follow this process you might find that the strings might slip off the guitar before you are done.

We hope that this will be a truly inspiring article for whoever wishes a deeper understanding of spirituality and/or art and the creative process. The subject of our article is how to make music for the great tantric Goddess Kali. Naturally we will start of with a short description of the Goddess followed by an introduction to the revolutionary law of resonance. Finally we will end with a description of how an artist can use this law in the creation of his work. We hope that this article is of interest to artists and spiritual seekers.

Who is Kali?

Kali is the first of the 10 great goddesses in the tantric tradition. She has four arms, black skin, big glaring eyes and has a necklace with severed heads. She can be found in graveyards where she dances on the tombs while laughing at the mortality and pettiness of humans. Her deeper symbolism is that of time and death which are things that we humans fear and that is why she looks so terrible in our eyes.

A ghastly sight indeed, she will send shivers down the spine of most who do not yet know her mysterious ways. Now to a few words about resonance. But once you have understood her deeper meaning her grace will reveal itself to you.

About resonance

The main teaching of Tantra is the law of Resonance. This law is deeper and more profound than the law of attraction which is on everybodies lips after the movie ‘the secret’ came out.

All matter in the universe is energy which vibrates at different frequencies. Two energies that vibrate with the same frequency will be attracted to one another and start to resonate together, meaning that they will start to exchange information and energy between them.

In the course of a day we move from one place to the other. Each place has its own constellation of energies or moods. If we find ourselves in a place where there is an ‘angry’ energy we will in turn be angry if the energy of anger is within us. The anger in the environment will start to resonate with the anger in us.

If we go to a football game where the energy is wild and excited we will also become wild and excited. If we go to a peaceful and calm place we will also become peaceful.

A landscape, room or color can have a common resonance, each putting us in a similar mood. Music is a very powerful resonator as it can carry very specific resonances and implant those resonances in us.

To illustrate the point, if you listen to heavy metal for instance, the chances are likely that you will enter into a mood of anger, power, frustration and destruction. You will enter into a process of resonance with the anger and hatred of the people who made the music and the people who listen to it.

On the other hand if you listen to harmonious, beautiful music you will go into resonance with harmony and beauty.

To enter a specific mood or state it can be of enormous help to listen to music which has that specific mood.

Applying resonance in art

In the creation of music or any art form it is of utmost importance to actively study that subject which you wish to create your music on. You have to contemplate the subject and to immerse yourselves in the moods inherent in that subject. In this way a process of resonance starts filling you up with similar resonances.

By contemplating on the object/subject upon which you wish to create your artwork and through resonance you will thereby become a better channel for the art. The resonance will impregnate the art and will thereby be conveyed to those who in turn contemplate the art. This is the secret to creating masterpieces.

Applying this knowledge to create music with Kali

Meditation and contemplation on the great Goddess Kali will lead you to contemplate on concepts as life and death, on time and on courage. These are deep powerful states which might be terrifying for those who have not deeply meditated upon these aspects.

Music with Kali will then also convey this aspect of terror. This can be done through deep drones and strong percussive rhythms. In this kind of music it also has an effect to use minor tonalities or Arabian/Indian modes with a flat nine to give an aura of mystique.

After a long contemplation on Kali, one would hopefully have a higher intuitive notion of life and death which will lead to an opening in the heart. This heightened feeling of love will then also be inherent in the music. Music with Kali has to convey this feeling of danger and terror but also this great opening of the heart which comes after understanding the deeper meaning of life and death.
