With the loss of Terrell Owens, one of the top receivers in football, many are speculating that the Cowboys will have an off year, regressing from their 2008 form. I, on the other hand, see a pretty solid offense in Dallas, and feel that their wide receivers will be just fine. Let’s have a look at the situation in Dallas.

1. Roy Williams. He’s no Terrell Owens in terms of flash, but he’s easily one of the more capable wide receivers in the sport, and has always been viewed as a top receiver on a horrible team (the Lions). Health issues aside (he’s generally known to miss a few games per year), Williams has as much raw talent as nearly any receiver in the game. As his chemistry with Tony Romo builds, I expect him to be a legitimate number one WR in Dallas.

2. Patrick Crayton. Crayton has progressively improved in each of the last few seasons, and I hope that 2009 will bring the same. He’s 30 years old now, but little playing time in his earlier years has kept him fresh, and he’s been a very solid role player in Dallas, making nice contributions at the number two wide receiver position last year. I expect to see Crayton with another 500-700 yard season, and he’ll be alright in Dallas.

3. Miles Austin. Just 25 years old, Austin put himself on the map last season with a few big plays. Plays that found him the end zone on deep bombs from Tony Romo. For this reason, many feel that Austin is a better option than Crayton, and rumors persist about a position battle between Austin and Crayton in camp for the number two spot.

He is a legit deep threat. He very well could be the key to how successful the Cowboys receivers are this year. Hopefully he can turn into the type of threat that opposing defenses have to key on, giving Williams and others more opportunities underneath. I don’t think a 1,000 yard season is out of the question, but he has to stay healthy, unlike last year.

4. Sam Hurd. A young wide receiver, just 24 years old, Hurd is making waves in training camp (just like he did in 2008). Many say that he’s making great plays in practice and see this receiver coming into his own in 2009.

While he may just be a 4th receiver, Romo likes to spread the offense out, and I think he’ll be a valuable role player in Dallas this season. I wouldn’t be surprised to see about 30-40 yards per game, with a few touchdowns to go with it.

These are the four receivers the Cowboys will count on come football season. I feel it’s safe to say that Roy Williams will be the clear cut number one option, but the 2, 3, and 4 spots remain to be seen. There’s certainly enough talent to sway it all in any direction.

DPS warriors, although you can take dual specs now, are never in particularly high demand so you will find that if you want to get into a group and a guild, then you are far better off taking up tanking as this is something that every raid needs.
