Airsoft Guns Used As A Form Of Protection
The laws of the land, most commonly set an age for purchasing an airsoft gun. The most common age is twelve, however there are some models available which use soft ammunition which can be purchased by an eight year old. Either way, the purchase and use of air soft guns need to be treated with the same respect as a real live firearm. Airsoft guns can be a good source of recreation and every child should have the oppertunity to own and operate them.
Children love to do as adults do. The fact is if a child has a desire to hunt animals, then this type of gun is essential for the child to get the hang of having a gun, and how to use it, and clean it properly. Always teach children how to take proper care of the gun, and explain the importance of the proper uses for the gun. These fundamentals will carry on as the child graduates into a young adult and is allowed to hunt.
In most cases, when a gun like this is used for protection of the home, there is no fatalities as a result. The guns can be very powerful though, and are able to kill small animals and hurt people that are not intended to be on the property. The recommendation is not to shoot this type of gun at any person, unless harm is the intention of the invader. Then or course, aim for the body, these guns will take out an eye.
Upon returning home from the purchase, set up a few targets. Make sure while a parent is setting up targets, that the procedure is explained as to where to locate targets. Tell the child the dangers resulting from the obstacles located beyond the target, in case they miss it, or worse, shoot through it. For example, basic hunting rules, do not set a target where a house, road, or people are on the other side, in the line of fire.
Sometimes the adult will have to read the instruction manual in order to learn how to load the gun properly. All airsoft guns have different ways of loading ammunition, and the proper technique will need to be learned, in order to be instructed correctly. Sometimes there are extra ammunition clips that can be purchased. These can be loaded any time, but the gun must be in the safe mode to switch the ammunition clips.
When using the sights of a gun, the child needs to be observed rather closely, to ensure the correct eye dominance is being used. Sometimes, a child can be shooting right handed, but the left eye is dominant. This can be noticed when a child is looking completely over the gun, instead of straight down the barrel.
There has been bank robberies and hold ups stemming from the purchase of air soft guns. In some cases the replicas resemble the real gun in such a way, that policemen have been fooled into shooting a person because of the presence of a gun.
The best way to correct the eye dominance problem is to cover the eye that is dominant, and allow the child to shoot while using the other eye. The child will probably miss the target several times before the correct eye to hand dominance is corrected. This could take several attempts, but it will be corrected using this procedure. Airsoft guns are the best training gun to correct this problem
