Its wondrous impact is in its scary practices. In the Irish tradition, this festival is called Samhain (or Syawn). It is significant due to the timing when harvesting season concludes. Having been derived from a typical theme, celebration of Halloween is actually a protective shield from evil spirits which invade peace of living beings on this special day at a time when the layer between dead and alive become thin and evil spirits try to enter in the human world for creating devastation. Although it is celebrated in much fun no authenticity of its belief is searched by now.
A strong belief has the ground that most such evil spirits are the souls of those people who couldn’t fulfill their desires when they were alive. It is further assumed that as these spirits are evil they would bring devastation, famine and deprivation in the living world hence they must be stopped by. Keeping this intention in view, religious peers do their deities and wear masks like the ghosts by keeping animal skeletons and bonfires at the selected places so that evil souls fail to cross the boundary line. Ironically no offering of complete animal is done. Why it is not practiced is a mystery rather. Wearing scary costumes is just for creating confusion amongst the evil soul fraternity.
This tradition has undergone manifold changes over the period. Hardly any animal farm is available neither age old ritual tradition is in practice. Sweets, chocolates and confectioneries have replaced traditional food. Ritualized tradition has turned funny which adults enjoy. The trend of wearing ghostly and scary costumes still continues though but they are not for confusing evil spirits. They are rather meant for fun and appeasing each other. The ‘youngsters’ not the evils be kept away. What a fun? Manufacturers design variety of scary costumes which youngsters wear. This way the manufacturers see their business getting flourished. In actuality, the manufacturer welcomes huge number of costumers.
