Want To Learn Guitar Songs In Just a Few Minutes?
I remember when I first started learning to play the guitar, all I wanted to do was learn guitar songs to play for my folks. That was over 35 years ago and my instructor was emphatic that I was expecting too much to learn guitar songs so quickly. So I started learning the strings, reading music, notation, intervals and was on my way to theory.
All of these things are vital when you learn to play the guitar. However, they do not actually help you learn guitar songs you can play right now. Long ago, there was no other choice and many guitar players laid down their guitar. However, with the help of the computer you can learn to play guitar songs quickly, while learning at your very own speed.
I found that reading tablature is probably the most powerful way to learn guitar songs. Tab, as it is called, can have any person-even a complete beginner who has never even SEEN a guitar-playing any song in a matter of minutes.
How can a beginner learn guitar songs? Well, let us take a peek at how you can do this successfully using easy to understand terms.
Written tab has six lines that each represent a string on the guitar. The bottom line is the low E string (thickest string) and the top line is the high E string(thinnest string). In standard tuning, blank tab looks like the example below:
E —————————-
B —————————-
G —————————-
D —————————-
A —————————-
E —————————-
Here, no frets are used – you will play each string open. Doing so will return the notes as they are. If you want to play a short scale beginning with the low E and then ending at the next E, the written tablature will be written as such:
E ———————————————–
B ———————————————–
G ———————————————–
D —————————-0–2—————
A —————0—2—3———————-
E —0—1—3———————————-
In this example, you would play the low E on the sixth string with no frets (open), then the F on the first fret, the G on the third fret. Move up to the next string and play the A with no frets (open), then the B on the second fret and the C on the third fret. Move up to the next string and play the D with no frets (open), then the E on the second fret. Voila! That is your first scale! And you thought you couldn’t learn guitar songs!
Every song can be tabbed out. There are literally thousands of them free online to use. Reading tablature can help you learn guitar songs in hardly any time at all, even if you are a beginner. Simply follow the tab, while playing the string and fret signified.
Chords are a bit different – this is how to write an E major chord tab.
E —0————————-
B —0————————
G —1————————
D —2————————
A —2————————-
E —O————————-
The notes in this chord are E (6/open), B (5/fr2), E (4/fr2), G# (3/fr1), B (2/open) and E (1/open).
It really is that simple when you realize how it works and then all it takes is the practice to learn guitar songs.
The only thing about tablature is that it doesnt give you timing or durations. It is a good idea to listen to the song while reading the tab along with it to get an idea. This is the easiest way to learn guitar songs that exists, folks.
It is highly recommended that you still learn to read music since it will help you progress in all other areas. Remember, it is never too late or hard to begin to learn guitar songs.
