The Princess Diaries movie comes as a fresh breath of air in these times where movies with explicit scenes and crass humor are being dished out every other day. The movie begins by introducing the audience to Amelia (Mia) Thermopolis, played by newbie Anne Hathaway, whos an awkward 15 year old teenager struggling to get through high school. Her public speaking skills are no-where near impressive and she is definitely not a part of the in crowd at school. Mia has a huge crush on her classmate Josh, whos a jock – making Mia invisible to him. Josh is portrayed by Erik Von Detten. She has a best friend Lily Moscovitz, portrayed by Heather Matarazzo and her brother Michael, who turns out to be the one Mia chooses in the end, played by Robert Schwartzman.

The actual the Princess Diaries movie story starts when Mias paternal grandmother, Clarisse Renaldi, played by Julie Andrews, suddenly shows up. And this, when Mia had absolutely no idea that she had a grandmother. Clarisse introduces herself as Queen of Genovia, a small European country. As if this wasnt enough of a shock for Mia, she goes on to tell Mia that she was going to be Princess of Genovia as there is no other heir after Mias father passed. The movie follows Mia through her princess lessons where she learns to act like a princess must, when in reality her behavior is far from being princess-like. She also must decide whether she wants this title or not before the night of a royal ball where she must announce her decision.

Though this movie is not exactly surprising or original, as it follows the same old tested formula, it is still charming and manages to warm your heart. What makes it work is the simple, but beautiful story. The movie is bubbly, spirited and a feel-good kind with many parts that are typical of romantic comedies.

Julie Andrews is perfect as the Queen-Grandmother who coaches Mia on royal behavior. Her performance is simply flawless and brings so much more to the movie. But the real show-stealer is Anne Hathaway without a doubt. This is no mean task considering this is her first film. In certain parts, she reminds one of Julia Roberts. Her talent is obvious right from the beginning and she performs both the drama and comic scenes extremely well. This is definitely one actor to watch out for in future and a huge star in the making.

Other notable performance come in the form of Hector Elizondo, who plays a limousine driver-cum- body guard, Heather Matarazzo who plays Lily, Selma Blair and Mandy Moore.

Once a novice discovers what great pictures they can take with a digital camera without having a great deal of knowledge they become keen photographers. They are out snapping photos at anything that moves practically. The results they achieved without the knowledge has now raised the question as to what they could achieve with some learning of the basics.

Step 1: The first step is to really look at what you want to take a picture of. Focus on the main point then try and get that object only into your photo with as little detail of other objects as possible, unless of course they are important to your picture as well. Its true that you can cut out all the junk stuff from your picture with you photo software editing program. The problem is though whenever you crop a picture on your computer you lose a little of how sharp it is and the quality is just a little bit less. Remember the whole goal now is to produce very high quality photos.

Step 2: Get as close to your subject as you are possibly can, unless of course it happens to be a wild animal, then in that case you may want to use you zoom lens at this point. Either way if done properly, you are going to get great photos. It is interesting to see how many new photographers just don?t seem to like to concentrate on the object of the picture by getting a closer shot. I think many of them feel the picture will be blurred if they do that. Alternatively, they will cut a portion of the object off. That is what your viewing area is for. What you see is what you get.

Step 3: Forget about the classic centered photo. Photos that are taken with the object being off centered are far most interesting. In addition, it will capture the curiosity of the individual looking at your photos much faster. Years ago, it rather was the unwritten rule to keep the subject totally centered. Not so today, especially with the use of digital cameras.

Step 4; The best compliment that could be paid to your photography is when you draw the person looking at it into the photo. In other words making them feel like they are actually there. There is a technique you can use to do it. It is by making sure you have a leading line in your photos such as a fence line or road perhaps. Even doorways do a great job at this.

Step 5: It would be most unfortunate if you went through steps 1-4 then messed up on step 5, which is paying attention to your lighting. Unless you have lots of money for lighting equipment take as much advantage as you can to utilizing the natural lighting of sunlight. Then utilizing your camera flash at the right moments. Remember there is a right way and wrong way of using natural sunlight. While it can enhance the quality of your photos, it can also ruin them as well.
