Good Sam: Virtually complete misfire, regardless of cast and director. Cooper is an incurable good guy in this inanimate comedy. Cast includes Gary Cooper, Ann Sheridan, Ray Collins, Edmund Lowe, Joan Lorring, and Ruth Roman. (113 minutes, 1948)
Mark of the Vampire: This film is an admirable, fascinating story of vampires terrorizing European village. The film is beautifully finished, with a marvelous ending. Nunzio: Retarded Brooklyn market delivery boy Proval envisions he’s Superman and then falls in love with bakery associate Feldshuh. Soft tale improved by Proval’s fine acting. Cast includes David Proval, James Andronica, Tovah Feldshuh, Morgana Baron, Vincent Russo, Theresa Saldana, and Monica Lewis. (87 minutes, 1978)
The Fox: Pleasantly created story of lesbians Dennis and Heywood, and what occurs while intruder Dullea arrives amid them. The movie was filmed in Canada. Cast includes Sandy Dennis, Keir Dullea, Anne Heywood, and Glyn Morris. (110 minutes, 1968)
Seize the Day: Williams is momentous as Tommy Wilhelm, turning 40 and a failure by any standard, which’s broke, much damaged and despondent for love. Wiseman and Stiller offer fine aid as his cold hearted dad and a con man he naively believes in. Lots of recognizable faces in tiny roles: Tony Roberts, Richard Shull, John Fiedler, Jo Van Fleet, William Hickey, Eileen Heckart, and numerous others. Cast includes Robin Williams, Joseph Wiseman, Jerry Stiller, and Glenne Headly. (93 minutes, 1986)
Rhinoceros: Eugene Ionesco entry in “Show of the Ludicrous” makes remorseful shift from the stage to the big screen as sales rep Crazier declines to comply by turning into a mess. The entertainers try. Cast includes Nil Mostel, Gene Crazier, Karen Black, Robert Weil, Joe Silver, and Marilyn Chris. (101 minutes, 1974)
Prince of Darkness: The anti-Christ entombs the evil child of Satan in a cannister of a forgotten about L.A. temple. It’s up to pastor Pleasence and the gradstudents of Prof Wong to tidy up the mess. They must stop the religious sect attempting to free this child named the “Brotherhood of Rest.” Cast includes Donald Pleasence, Lisa Blount, Jameson Parker, Victor Wong, Dennis Dun, Susan Blanchard, Anne Howard and Alice Cooper Panavision. R (110 minutes, 1987)
Daniel Boone: Alright action venture detailing a chapter in the life of the legendary pioneer and his leading of some settlers west from North Carolina into Kentucky. O’Brien is well cast in the title role Cast includes George O’Brien, Heather Angel, John Carradine, Ralph Forbes, and Clarence Muse. (75 minutes, 1936)
Marilyn Hotchkiss’ Ballroom Dancing & Charm School: While a current widower assists a dying mishap sufferer it sets in motion a journey to find the poor man’s long lost love at a school reunion. This leads to a ballroom dance school and a dull, hokey, excessively sentimentalized tale. Cast includes Robert Carlyle, Marisa Tomei, Sean Astin, John Goodman, Mary Steenburgen, Donnie Walhberg, David Paymer, Camryn Manheim, Adam Arkin, Sonia Braga, and Elden Henson. (103 minutes, 2006)
